Decker convinced to join Jets after Googling Geno Smith

Eric Decker’s final decision to join the New York Jets came down to a Google search (Costello, August 14).

Decker’s search results led him to YouTube videos of Geno Smith in action, which impressed the wideout, so he dug deeper.

“I was impressed by the games I watched of Geno, and then I Googled and YouTubed interviews to get a feel of who he was as a person more than just the physical skill on the field,” Decker said in the New York Post. “That’s a big thing.”

Decker eventually signed a five-year, $36 million deal with the Jets and quickly became their No. 1 receiver.

I think he googled "Gino's Italian ices" and was persuaded to come to NY.

No hate, but let's hope this guy can be a #1 since he has made his name catching balls between Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas and has never been the #1 going against the other teams top CB

This Decker story is great troll bait for the TJB community members who just like to focus on the negative.

Keep up the good work guys. There will always be something to b**ch about.

I personally will take it for what it is. A good endorsement of the Jets QB from a talented peer that certainly has the perspective to judge such things.

This is a joke of a story.

This guy can't be serious about Geno, can he?

Geno has his flaws and we all know that. THe kid is a pup.

8 games with an atrocious wide receiver group isnt that bad.  Winning 8 games as a rookie is not bad at all.  We have upgraded and cant wait to see how it works out.  Also, Geno gives us something that is now a MUST in the NFL which is running the ball from the QB position.

Im excited.  I have visions of a BIG tight end set giving teams problems, who do you double, decker, CJ?

I wonder what Decker scored on his Wonderlic...

Geno had the worst receivers in the league and managed not to fall apart and still had 8 wins, has a good arm and throws a nice deep ball although he didn't have the players for it, we'll see what he can do this year, Decker is not far off

Decker has good vision both off and on the field.

Certain to be a welcome addition.

I'm sure the $36 Million and the lure of NY Brite lights for their reality show and his wifes career had little to do with it!!

Geno...Geno...GENO !!!

Why do you guys feel that every QB has to be like Payton Manning or Tom Brady.  The guy was a rookie and still led them to 5 game winning drives out of the 8 games he has won as a rookie.  Give the guy a break anybody would look like trash when you have no one to throw it too.  Eli Manning had a worse year than Geno Smith and that guy is a 2 time SB champ. Eli still looks horrible in preseason.  Geno has looked good through camp.  Smh every QB that is a rookie coming in doesn't mean you suck

Isn't this a story from 3 or 4 months ago? It's a closed practice today so I guess Costello just decided to fake it.

Haha.

I have a feeling the $36 Million had more to do with it than youtube videos.

The one thing I agree with you on is that Geno is a pup. In this age of putting the QB in the fire right away if they don 't do good by year 2, what you see is what you get. They don 't seem to improve. It is true the WRs sucked last year. But some of us said after Sanchez's 2nd AFC Championship game that the WRs need to improve. But they were allowed to continue to get weaker. Instead of building on what they had. Look at Denver. They got to the Super Bowl but built on what they had. As far as needing a QB that can run it is nice but not what is needed for success.

Back to Geno. I just don't see him as the answer.

You know the media like to pick who they like. If Geno was nicer to them, they'd focus more on the 3000 yards he put up and his potential.

Seems like he doing the opposite of Sanchez.

@Lloyd Jay Reife

He's proven it off the field..just look to his left..but , we'll have to see how good his vision is looking for Geno if he's running for his life !!

@Maurice Nelson Preach.

@jvsvn It's like one of those non-topical filler episodes of South Park that was clearly produced months beforehand the fill out the season.

@Bent I know, He would have ran as far away as he could.

The media has nothing to do with it. Give it a rest with the media BS. What matters is the team that is on the field. The fact is Geno was one of the worst QBs last year.

@Steven Windeler

I don't know Steven...I do know that the Jets AND NY are a Taylor Made Fit for him  and his wife....AND he knows that too !!!

@Bent @jvsvn I guess they had to pull the "Rookie McDougle Looking to Make an Impact" story.

@Pat d  the O line has to give Geno enough time this year, the receivers led the league in dropped balls last year so it reflected on Geno, some might say it was Geno's fault but even Namath said the receivers where trash, Geno seems to have a cool head so I will trust him to make a big improvement with better talent

@Hanknaples I think you hit the nail on the head Hank. He knows NY is a good market for his wife and he also knows he will be top dog here.
