Draft Profile: TE Jace Amaro

Fox Sports profiles Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

The trend on Amaro seems to be that he projects to go at the end of the first round or early second.  While a few months ago Amaro was talked about as the second best tight end in this class, but after a slow timed 40 at the Combine (4.74 seconds) opinions have seemed to drop him into the second round and behind the likes of Troy Niklas and even Austin Seferian-Jenkins in some mock drafts.

Amaro won’t likely make it out of the second round because he is a talented receiver and has good hands coupled with a size mismatch, but his “more quick than fast” speed might limit his upside for many NFL teams.

If Amaro is available in the second I'll be surprised and would be a steal at that juncture. However, I personally believe in the BPA approach (for the most part) and it will depend on who is available. If we take a CB in the first and someone like Allen Robinson or Jordan Matthews is available in the second then I'd pass on Amaro.I do like Amaro as a prospect. But the TE position should be somewhat deep after the second round  - CJ, Grimble, Lynch, Duncan, Gilmore, Lyerla, and others.

FYI - Amaro had one of the lowest drop rates among TE prospects coming out this year - about 7%. Ebron was almost at 12%. ASJ was right under 9%.

TE Jenkins is the guy we need to get in the 2nd rd

he complements Cumberland the best

we need someone who block as well be a big time receiver

Jenkins can def. be that and end up being the best TE from this draft class

How does Amaro compare to Dustin Keller when he came out of college?

The Flyer fans are the worst! We need a win tonight to shut their pie holes!!!!!!!

Floyd Toucanet

Why dont the Jets just resign Dustin Keller? That would make a TE less of a need going into the draft and he is an upgrade over what we have. He led the team in receiving when he was here for 1-2 years I believe.

Go Rangers tonight! We need this one on their turf!!!!!!

Espn releases the schedule tomorrow at 8pm, just what we wanted, lol

8pm tomorrow, the official regular season schedule will be released!

as a second rounder I would gladly take Amaro, only TE I would take as a first rounder is Ebron since Revis is in NE now

Btw I'm still lovin' Beckham, Cooks, Ebron, or Dennard at 18.

See how easy I am to please?

Amaro would be a great second pick (if we don't get Ebron of coarse), and slight trade ups can be relatively painless Mr. Idzik :)

Jace Amaro was the first player on my "draft radar 2014" and yes, I'd still want him at 49 or a slight trade up to snag em' earlier...

But my point is today, how come these highlight clipsmiths don't provide some footage of TE's BLOCKING effectively!!!!

(cause that's something we really need to know too)

Dagnabbit, Brendan said the schedule was coming out today, what happened?

marcus81
marcus81

@Iain Bartholomew Keller had more speed but was not a good blocker, Amaro might have better hands and seems to be able to do some blocking

marcus81
marcus81

@rkymtnjet Amaro looks like a good possession receiver that will get first downs, seems like a decent blocker, kind of like Edelman for the Pats, not a game breaker but someone who can keep drives alive and good red zone target with size.

Yeah let's pick up Keller, Cro and Holmes. NOT.

I think the Jets need to bring in a big body TE and one that can block well. I think Amaro gets underrated as a blocker. CJ and Niklas also come to mind as guys who can come in and help block right away. I think if Keller is your second TE at this point it's still a position of huge need, get someone in here on fresh legs.

@Floyd Toucanet  I doubt anyone will pick up Keller until after the draft.  I don't really expect the Jets to be in the mix, but you never know.

@jake100

How far do you think the Rangers can really go?

Pat d

Actually there is a way, if BPA plays a different position.

@jake100 Man I'm impressed, they hopped on that quick!!

@a57se @jake100  Do you think I am a psycho, I mean psychic,lol? Lets find out, that's why we watch the games and root on our teams on baby!

Brendan

@a57se As far as Hank takes them. If he heats up and gets on one of his hot streaks they can win it all, but last game didn't look too good. Big game tonight for him to get back on track.

@juunit @kniffYour point is well taken Junnit, my issue is that TE blocking footage has every thing to do with my semi-delusional research on the best personnel for the Jets 2014 Offense!!!

Brian Serviss

@Brendan @a57se  no way. Even with Hank playing great there is no way that team keeps up with a team like the Penguins, Bruins, Ducks, Sharks, Blues, Avalanche. The Rangers have already proven that it's going to take more than great goal tending to win the cup

@a57se @Brendan  Funny how I actually made a post about the offensive line and there's no comments whatsoever from Joey on that one.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se From being an above-average unit. If Dee and Allen step up, it's basically CB#2 that's the hole, and that's only if Patterson doesn't step up or gets hurt or something like that.

@Brendan @a57se

Nope, I saw it.........he is looking at it from the worst case scenario.

@Brendan

A guy or two aaway from what> They have solid starters at every position, no?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se I guess you missed his run of posting earlier today. Yes, he's serious. The OL is a trainwreck, according to our pal Joey.

It's obviously not where it could be, but it's not an outright disaster, either.

Brendan
Brendan

@Scott Berger-Felder Shambles? Scott you're usually pretty on-point (or at least defendable), but the DB's aren't "in shambles." They're a guy or two away.

UncleJoesJetFarm
UncleJoesJetFarm

@a57se @jake100  Comon dude, Winters is a MAJOR question mark, Colon wont last, depth is nonexistent, and not one lineman graded out positive last season in run blocking. OK, maybe shambles is a stretch, but huge issues is not!!!!!!

juunit

@kniff @juunit

You can find it if you look, specifically if you watch one of those player X vs. team Y videos on Youtube. Although with Amaro, there won't be much because he wasn't asked to block very often.

Haha I appreciate you checking, yes.  Obviously others may not have though so if you're going to talk about it, always start by saying SPOILER ALERT and speak in generalities.

@juunit @Brendan  I don't mind him.  He does his research (unlike some) and doesn't humblebrag about how much he knows (unlike others).

@Brendan @juunit

Ha, lots of people hate Collinsworth. I'm not really sure why. I know some people hate him because they got sick of hearing his voice on Madden. I don't know about the other people.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit Yeah, I don't really care, either. Collinsworth will give you the most actual information, but I can never shake the feeling he's a huge doucher.

And I hate them both since it's delaying the schedule release.

@Brendan @juunit@Bent

I don't know what NBC's contract is/was but I don't care much either way. I like both Nantz-Simms and Michaels-Collinsworth. As long as Fox doesn't get it, I'm cool.

Wouldn't surprise me if CBS legally has it and NBC is just acting pissy about it because they lost something else to CBS.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit True, but this will probably come down to contracts. I would think that NBC has the higher ground here since they entered into their deal first and if it's explicitly stated that they have the rights to this special game for X years, then CBS can't just be given the game over top of them without compensating NBC.

@Bent  My response was regarding pre-schedule. Like, I don't think they pass one by Belichick and get his thoughts or anything like that. And aside from a religious issue or something of that nature, I doubt the NFL will move the games without some type of extreme circumstance forcing them to.

Bent
Bent moderator

@Brendan @juunit @jaygo

Can you overrule part of the schedule?  Not until after the announcement.  You can try and get it changed later on like the Jets did in 2011 (Thursday night trip to Denver following Sunday night Pats game = denied) and 2009 (clash with Yom Kippur = moved earlier).

I would imagine teams find out exactly when we do...otherwise there's no way it wouldn't leak out in advance.

juunit

@Brendan @juunit@jaygo

Seeing how CBS kicks NBC's ass in literally every single thing these days, I'd even go so far as to predict who will win.

America's most watched network > America's least watched network

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit Yeah, it's CBS. So, NBC has broadcast the Thursday night kickoff game the past couple seasons, CBS just signed on to broadcast the Thursday night games, so I'll change my final answer to those two corporate monsters duking it out.

@jaygo I respect not revealing the sources or anything that could reveal them. Thanks for the little bit of info you could share, at least.

Brendan
Brendan

@jaygo Ohhhh, that'd actually make sense. Isn't NBC getting the Thursday Night games this year or something like that?

So I take it it's NBC vs. ABC/ESPN?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se I would bet my bottom dollar that they don't.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 For the record, it was announced as today about a week or two ago. I assume the NFL intended to release it today, but they're they NFL and someone probably did something stupid that they had to fix.
