Draft Profile: WR Jarvis Landry

Fox Sports profiles LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry, an expected third or fourth rounder in the upcoming draft.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Landry is a willing physical player, he can contest passes and isn’t afraid to go over the middle and he runs good routes and has good hands.  But in a league where receivers either need to create separation with speed or by their size, Landry’s projection and span of role in the NFL is up for debate.  Standing 6’0″ Landry won’t have the size advantage of some bigger receivers and his straight-line speed is up for debate.  Landry clocked a 4.77 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Landry looks like he could become a solid possession receiver in the NFL, but it’s hard to know how much higher to project him beyond that.

This guy reminds me of Boldin... not particularlybig or fast, but physical and has good hands.  I wouldn't mind getting him in the 3rd round.

Mayock downgraded Lee to late 1 early 2. He had originally listed him as #3 overall.

He's an absolute stud. As an LSU fan who watched every game, Landry was no doubt the better college receiver compared to ODB. Landry catches everything, very clutch

I like him, but not before the third round. Seems a lot like Kerley, but a bit bigger and slower. Would be nice if he falls to 80 though.

factoring in the rookies, what's the available cap look like?

I've watched as much video as I could find, read every article possible...on the the top 12 to 15 receivers. I like Landry, somewhere around the time we draft in the 2nd. I love Beckham, and hope the Jets take him in the first. But I just can't seem to shake the feelings that the NFL is about to get hit with a storm of receivers. A lot of these guys look really good.

Jameis Winston is an idiot ,really tried to use the fact that hes 20 as a reason for forgiveness for shoplifting..

on top of the other thing..He really isn't someone I'd draft. Hopefully we won't have to contemplate it after Boyd... I mean Geno steps up.

I like BBs Mock a lot.  He knows the Jets Brass and how they think. I'm sure that was a factor in his mock.

The 4.77 at the combine is a bogus stat. Landry ran much faster at his pro day. He ran at the combine even though he wasn't 100% because he is a warrior.

Please draft this guy Idzik. He catches everything and he doesn't need to create separation because he's open even when he's covered. If you crossed Anquan Boldin with Jericho Cotchery you'd end up with Jarvis Landry.

Like Landry a lot. He catches everything. It depends on who we take in rd 1. I dont think he's available rd 3, so...

@Lord Harry Latts I think so. There is such little separation between these guys that I really want to trade back, and pick up another 2nd. Then maybe trade back up to the beginning of the 3rd. If we can get 4 picks in the top 70, we could fill all our holes with nice players.

@Marvel Zach Mettenberger has my vote anyway...

@Marvel  We can get Winston in the 2nd round if Geno doesnt improve.

Brady you are so right about this guy I happy to see it. really great evaluation by you.

I've been reading what you where saying about Landry so I check him out and saw for myself that he is flying under the radar. He's better that advertised no doubt.

@WW85

He's strong reminds me of Hinds Ward from the Steelers a little.

@Steven Windeler    I was goofing around with the draft simulator on Fanspeak.....I like a Dennard, Moncrief combo in the first two rounds.

@levi @Marvel So Geno has one week to improve? Edit: forgot he's only coming out next year.

Anybody who watches tape on Landry will see an overachiever who is at his best when blanketed by defenders. This is a player who never catches with his body and always snags the ball out of the air. He seeks out the ball

This guy plays like a Jet

@bob @WW85

Yeah, that's a good comparison (even though I don't like comparisons.) Similar toughness/size but not an in your face athlete. Won't put up Megatron numbers, but he'll catch TDs, convert 3rd downs and block for you until his head falls off.

@bob He will move the chains a lot.

One things for sure....He'll be a STEAL on draft day.......Some lucky team will get the STEAL of the draft.......

Yup. They really don't write any better anyway. It's not like buying that more expensive car or a green egg instead of a regular barbeque.

@bradysucks @levi

The guy just had the greatest freshman season as a QB in college football history. He's a physical specimen with a cannon and awesome accuracy.

Unless he murders some people or releases a rape sex tape, he's going #1 overall.

If I were his agent I'd be calling seafood companies and getting this Idiot QB some endorsement deals...

@bradysucks I'm sure he thought he was getting them free because of who he was. Kind of like Warrick, and Coles. He wasn't trying to hide who he was. This guy must really not be well liked.

I know.....but getting caught shoplifting a week before the draft when all of these prospects are being talked about and covered by the media every day makes this guy look like a complete imbecile.....

I am sure by the time he gets drafted his agents will train him like a dog to bark to NFL  teams how this mistake forced him to grow up and made him a better person (laugh out loud)

Sure.....Just give him the damn money so his agent can keep paying for that Mercedes and that house in South Hampton

@juunit  Thats funny. When I started my business I went and bought a couple fancy pens like that to carry when I go to meetings or meet with clients. I was stupid, I lost them right away and now carry cheap ones.

You mean like in the movie Animal House.....I get it

But this Bozo got caught a week before the draft with real $$ at stake.....He's an imbecile to jeopardize his future like this over crab legs (yum)

juunit

@levi @bradysucks

Some people just like to do it for the thrill. I had a friend who used to steal fancy pens from Staples. Then he had a bunch of overpriced pens and nothing to do with them.

@bradysucks  Well he shouldnt have to steal  once he gets a NFL contract.

It all comes down do the scouts working for the Jets....Hopefully they have done their homework. If they have they will want Landry if he's available and will have recommended him to Idzik......

I really hope we get Landry. I'll be sick if he becomes a Patriot. Brady would love this kid on 3rd down

Hill is not a natural receiver. Hill catches with his body and has to think about everything he does....Landry is a NATURAL wide receiver who catches the ball with his arms stretched out. Landry literally grabs balls out of the air......Hill many times waits for the ball to come into his chest before he tries to secure it........

bob

@bradysucks

Yep he uses his body strength and get great position on the CB defending him.

bob

@juunit @bob@WW85

Really good at boxing out CB for position to make the catch is something he makes up for. Over speed.. translate well at the next level. Instinctive player.

I totally agree Cooks is and maybe  the hardest receiver to cover in the draft

Marvel
Marvel

@WW85 @bob

I seriously doubt Cooks can be single covered. He gonna have DB petrified.

bob

Ist round Cooks. 2nd round ASJ, 3rd round Laudry wow that would be awesome.

bob
bob

@WW85 @bob yep me to.

BBs got       1st round.  WR. Cooks.

                   2nd round. TE. Austin Seferian-Jenkins

3rd round I thought was CB Pierre Desir a herm Edward guy.

WW85

@bob Yeah I read that quote from a current NFL DB who covered him in college. Cant remember who made it though.

bob

@WW85 @bob

I'm hearing Cooks is the hardest receiver to cover.

WW85

@bob Hines Ward is faster & can get downfield. I can see why Landry & OBJ complimented each other so well. Landry clogs the middle while OBJ flies. Pick your poison.

@WW85 @bob

Yes he will. In addition to that "blocking down field and staying healthy" are factors he has. the guy is a football player I really hope he,s a Jet
