Draft Profile: WR Mike Evans

Fox Sports profiles likely top ten pick Texas A&M’s Mike Evans.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It’s almost cruel to post clips like this.  Evans is projected to be the second receiver taken in the upcoming draft and will likely be long gone by the time the Jets pick unless they move up to take him.  Adding a player like Evans to the talent the Jets could place around him might make allow the Jets offense to make a true leap, but it would seem unlikely that the Jets would give up the picks to move up.

Evans is tall, fast, physical and as you can see knows how to highpoint a pass … something valuable working with  a QB like Johnny Manziel.  Evans projects to be a very special playmaker in the NFL for a long time to come.

So I understand the argument about quantity over quality, The # of holes and the depth of this draft but isn't grabbing the next Calvin Johnson (if the Jets think he or Watkins is that guy) worth the other picks knowing 50% are likely to under perform. Eggs all in 1 basket. But potentially a great basket....

Most of those catches were due to bad CB play. NFL corners would have knocked away or picked off 75% of those passes.

ODB at 18 or Marquise Lee.  Just watch these two with the ball in their hands.  Lee had a slow 40, so did anquan boldin.   Lee plays much faster after the catch.  I think it just makes the most sense.  Clinton-Dix is an interesting choice if available as well too.  This draft is loaded, someone is going to fall to us.  If Idizk can pull another Richardson type pick we can very well turn this team around and compete for the playoffs.

Our roster is young and only getting faster. We have players who had the chance to sit and watch and learn (campbell, aboushi, etc).  OLB, WR CB, TE are what we need to do this draft IMO

Just an oppinion, but i think Evans looks stiff, and i would put him 3rd, behind OBJ.

if he is there you draft him. period.

Side note. Mejia is slinging it again tonite, if he stays healthy, he is gonna make one of these young arms expendable.

Don't let the neigh sayers fool ya', Rex has retained much face in the organization... He is probably being very vocal on CB Dennard AND receiving reassurances.

Cooks is on the radar cause while they need lightning speed down the stretch,  it is no longer going to come at the expense of great hands... Cooks is in the brass  cross hairs as the "handyman" they need. None of the bigs wants another Hill on their hands!!

The Green Bay Packers need a wide receiver, and I'm told their current draft board ranks Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham and Cody Latimer in order.

Interesting take on the WR's this year......

a57se

A source with knowledge of the Houston Texans' draft board told me the owner prefers Manziel, with head coach Bill O'Brien favoring defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The scouts? They're said to want Teddy Bridgewater.

— Similarly, in Cleveland, sources tell me it's ownership and head coach Mike Pettine who want Manziel, with position coaches and scouts preferring wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Funny stuff......situations that get guys fired in Houston and Cleveland!

@Floyd Toucanet  This couldn't be more inaccurate. Are you looking at the first throw as one of these? That was a back-shoulder toss, which is a very popular NFL play, it works at that level also. Are you talking about the touchdown against LSU where he tosses the CB who is trying to play rough with him? That'll most likely still happen in the NFL, Evans is going to be massive compared to most NFL CB's as well.

I doubt there would be any disagreement re Dix's talent or that he would dramatically improve the secondary, but rather the priority of that need compared to that for a WR, CB or even TE in the first round.

You must feel the same way about our secondary as I do about the OL...

Actually, I think both need infusions of top-notch talent...hence my attempt to include at least one road grader and multiple DB's in every draft.

But I like your picks.    Very similar to one I did yesterday...

18- S Dix

49-OLB Lawrence

80-WR Moncrief

104-OT Richardson (that road-grader, again)

115-CB Desir

137-RB DAT

154-ILB Barrow

I mean these are as close to be the same and yet difference as you can get.

Everyone keeps saying Lawrence is a beast, but watching some game tape on YouTube and he looks regular,, maybe I'm watching a bad game.

ALSO I really like Desir as a sleeper.

It might be the film you've been watching.   This guy is moving up fast, and Rang thinks maybe into the first round.   Jeremiah of NFLN also thinks he's someone to watch, like his speed, as rusher and in coverage, and especially what he calls "the violence of his hands".

Check out the profile BR did on him a couple months ago...I think this guy would be perfect for Rex...and this particular D.

@juunit @a57se  The funny thing is that none of these can be smokescreens, because they've got nothing to gain by hiding their intentions.

@DrJonathanReefer @Hazard2012

If anything, the time I spend on the draft simulators has had exactly that effect---I'm not worried, either, and am extremely optimistic about the possibilities in this draft.

I play strategy games on occasion and approach these mocks the same way...what if scenarios...and it's hard to come away with a mock that's a complete bust.   Heck, for fun I traded back several times and wound up with two two's and three three's and a first pick at 43!

TE ASJ

OT Kouandjio

OLB Attaochu

WR Moncrief

CB Reynolds

were those picks...with ILB Skov, RB Sims and G Trai Turner in the 4th.

So even in that unlikely scenario things still turned out fairly well.

well if thats what you were looking for then I understand the logic for sure.

Just not what I would do. But we both know we differ on the OL.

Seriously.....Cooks would help the offense more than Dennard would help the defense in my opinion......

I am prepared for the Jets to draft a CB in round 1......

Maybe they are literally smokescreens in that everyone in the Texans organization is high?

@Bent Well, they could possibly be playing games if they're trying to trade out of the top spot.
