we better get one of the the top three receivers or Ebron or Amaro in the first round at least

He looks decent and I wouldn't mind him at the right price (2nd round). However, this drafts receiver core is deep and due diligence in scouting these guys will be critical. It is possible to draft 2-3 contributors at WR in this years draft. I really like Abbrederis in the 2nd or 3rd. I also like TJ Jones from Notre Dame as a late round pick.

This is the same WR that Andrew Garda said a few posts ago lacks the burst to get deep. That's all we need is to draft another role player. We should at least start by drafting someone who doesn't lack the speed to compete for a full-time role on the big stage.

The game is much faster in the NFL and we already have enough limited players like Hill who has the speed but can't catch.

Either Garda is wrong or all the fans who've been posting to draft Mathews are wrong. Just hope we donl't get caught up in the pre-draft hype and only make solid picks in the first few rounds.

I'm thinking Hakeem Nicks, Anquan Boldin, James Jones, and Golden Tate, are viable FA option WRs that might gel well with Jet culture... and that we can afford (as long as its only one of them)

If we can't get a suitable FA WR then it makes sense to prioritize this need in the draft.

SNY, if you're gonna have auto-start video at least throw a preroll in there so you make some money

Take this guy at 18. He is going to be a stud.

I was just going to agree with Brendans' concerns after two other (unwanted) video/audios started up while trying to listen to the Matthews interview....Then a third unwanted audio blared out at me before I could even start typing!!

Please fix this man!!

P.S.

68 never did come back... that should make you guys think twice about all these changes, and other assorted BS... (smiles)

The auto-start on these videos...necessary?

You just had two running simultaneously, is that how the SNY Overlords drew it up? Are they equivalent of Sparano drawing plays in the dirt with a stick?

@marcus81

I'm not sold on that philosophy.The receiving core in this years draft is deep.

@frustjetfn Agreed, it just seems like we can get a similar player in the 3rd/4th round. Ideally I'd like our 1st round pick to have more "special-ness", whatever position they may play.

@frustjetfn

He is like David Nelson to me......we already have Nelson so why draft a copy?

Brendan

@frustjetfn Not having the burst to be a deep threat doesn't relegate someone to being a role player. Anquan Boldin ran like a 4.7 40 time. Fitz ran in the 4.5's.

Speed isn't what determines a player's worth.

@jaygo Yeah bro, and I was very concerned that the supposedly revamped phins' would be a real threat with Dustin Keller last season!

still didn't like seeing him go down so early with the injury...

@kniff

I'm thinking I'd rather draft a couple young WR's that Geno or whoever ends up our QB can grow with.

@kniff I have all of my blocking plug-ins enabled when using this site, to avoid all the annoying crap that jumps at you.

@kniff 68 still comes to the chats, he's been under a ridiculous workload since his company let someone go, but didn't hire someone to pick up the slack.

I'm sure livefyre doesn't help, but hopefully 68 comes back to posting regularly sometime in the future.

@dabronx@marcus81

Yeah, what if we took Dennard at 18 and Pryor in the 2nd round then grabbed Landry and Moncrief in the third and a TE like Gilmore later on?

@a57se@marcus81 get ready for another season of leading the league in dropped balls

@Bytor@frustjetfn

I'm with you.....another reason why I don't like the idea of taking a TE at 18.

frustjetfn

@a57se@frustjetfnSharing a brain. Was going to cite Nelson who I like, but thought most Jets fans already knew that. We also have Kerley at slot who's quick, but not a legit deep threat so why not at least try to add what we've lacked the better part of two decades: a deep threat who can catch?

Tired of aiming low and hoping to develop someone who doesn't have the raw skills to begin with.

@a57se @kniff Cool with me cause that's easy on the cap, and leaves us going FA on Guard, CB, LB and/or Safety...

Can't wait til March 11!!!

@Brendan @kniff Glad to hear he's around at least a little... is he still using the tjsc68 handle?

@a57se@dabronx@marcus81 another defensive no.1 pick? too risky to hope late rounders pan out as starting WR's, first three picks should be receivers unless a very rare talent at another position is available

a57se
a57se

@Bytor@a57se

I'd love the Lee/Moncrief pair as well and that could easily be done with our 1st and 3rd round picks.

If we really feel the need for a TE, perhaps Niklas or ASJ in the 2nd....there will also be later round guys that can play TE.

If those three WR's are gone then it would depend on who is available...the TE's become more attractive simply because the WR's are gone. I really like Beckham Jr. so I wouldn't mind getting him at 18 either. he is the closest WR left to Lee in the draft.

Bytor
Bytor

@a57se @Bytor I think you get the idea though. I'm not married to any of those players, just exploring reasonable options. I'd love for them to draft a Lee/Moncrief type combo and worry about te later.

I keep going back to te if Watkins/Evans/Lee are all taken ahead of us. They are 18 worthy unlike the others. Trading down is not a certainty.

a57se
a57se

@Bytor

It looks good on paper until you write down the QB  and try to figure why Boldin would want to spend one of the last years of his career playing with an unknown commodity at QB for a .500 team.

Also looks good if Nicks isn't getting hurt or complaining about not getting enough catches so he can cash in the following year....

Ebron is a bigger question mark to me than Lee or Evans or even Beckham to me....

I am also not convinced that MM really covets TE's that much.....

I am also not a big fan of Cooks.

Bytor
Bytor

@a57se @Bytor @frustjetfn I'm kinda warming to drafting te a bit. I'm just not sure an Ebron/Amaro is the real explosive deal. Let's say Ebron is the choice, get a FA like Boldin or Nicks and draft a pain in the azz like Cooks in the second. Then we have Boldin/Nicks, Hill, Kerley, Cooks, Nelson, and some other dude like Moncrief or Latimer.

Then draft Sims and all of a sudden our offense looks pretty good, no?

I'ts gonna be a looooong 3 months!

@Daniel@a57se@frustjetfn

Goodson is more dynamic than Powell.....if we pick a guy who can run up the middle as well as outside and catch the ball, then Powell is redundant.

D

@a57se@Daniel@frustjetfn Oh def.   I mean i would prob keep powell over Goodson.   Coin flip.   Sims would be great and so would this Ka'deem Kare kid from Arizona.

a57se
a57se

@Daniel@a57se@frustjetfn

I agree with that as well. A guy like Sims would be an upgrade over Powell to me.....we'd still have Ivory as the power back.....

D
D

@a57se@frustjetfn MM was most succesful with a guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield.     I like powell but he isnt the answer

a57se
a57se

@frustjetfn@a57se

Yeah, I agree.

A WR core of Nelson, Kerley, Boldin and Matthews would be 'anti-dynamic'..... Geno needs guys that get open and get open quickly, he has not shown enough accuracy to throw jump balls that physical receivers can win over CB's. Plus this type of WR core would not fit MM's WCO.......

a57se
a57se

@Disgruntled Jets Fan@a57se@kniff

This is such a strong draft at WR that I'd really like to see us get 2 of them at a minimum.

Nelson is a decent possession receiver and Kerley is our slot guy....I don't want to put other WR's between the young guys and playing.....

Brendan

@kniff Yup, but I haven't seen him on the blog, just the chat.
