Goodson to be arraigned on Wednesday

Mike Goodson will be arraigned on weapons charges in New Jersey on Wednesday.

He is expected to plead not guilty (Cimini).

Goodson was suspended for the first four games of the season after his arrest. He tore his ACL and MCL in mid-October.

He had seven carries, for 61 yards, in two games this season.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It’s hard to say what the future holds for Goodson, but the running back’s lawyer has made the assertion that the driver of the vehicle has claimed he owned the weapon.

New Jersey has strict gun ownership laws, so we will see what comes of this starting tomorrow.

If his knee comes back to 100% health he will be dangerous in Marty's offense. I still think a later-round RB draft pick is a good idea. They also have Griffin who was doing well before he went down with injury, so a late round pick should give them enough camp bodies to ensure a good RB depth chart.

Boy, I'd hate to have to go w/o Goodson in 2014 after all he's contributed to the team so far. Idzik's intentions were good in signing this guy, but it's time to establish a higher standard for this team and it's not what you think (i.e., not potential criminal behavior). The standard I'm talking about is contributing on the field.

In order or the Jets to take the next step Idzik has to adopt the principle that he will only keep players who he knows (barring game day injures) will be available to play. In other words, he has to cut players like Garrard, Cribbs, Winslow and anyone else who has permanent limiting injuries or like Garrard who is a mercy signing. I've nothing against guys like Garrard as coaches, but Idzik's desire to keep him on the roster is wrong-headed and detracting from team resources.  It may sound tough, but is Idzik being fair to a team trying to win a game (and to Rex) if he has to compete with less available players than the other team? And since we all know that injuries are common in football, isn't it smart to at least start the season with guys who don't have to skip practices and be restricted to spot duty during games?

Finally, wrt Goodson: it should be stressed to every team member that being accountable to your teammates means you are available on game day. If that means avoiding any off the field activities which may involve legal penalties that limit your availability to you team, then that is what you must do. The rule is simple: dedication to the team comes first, last and always.  I just hope Idzik adopts this perspective going forward.

His arrest record isn't what worries me, it's his ACL and MCL injuries that are more troubling.  The Jets need to add depth at the pass-catching, change of pace RB position, whether via free agency or the draft.  As for the free agents, I know that he's injury prone, but I've always liked McFadden's game.  At the right price, I'd be psyched if the Jets acquired him.

Incidentally, I have jury duty in Morris County (where he was arrested) on Thursday.

I always liked Goodson because he can be very explosive; however the free agency in 2014 for running backs is going to be very good. Would you guys take a Knowshon Moreno, a Ben Tate, a Maurice Jones-Drew, a Donald Brown, or even a healthy Darren McFadden over Mike Goodson? We have the salary cap to sign any of those guys so, why not? Before making a decision on Goodson i would workout some of those guys to see what we have in them and how we can use them. Go Jets!

I still think Goodson will beat the rap.  However if it continues to get drawn out it may impact whether he makes the team or even stays in the league

7 carries for 61 yards = 8.71 Yards per carry.......WOW! Imagine having him for a whole season!!!

At this pace, he will see trial in 2020.

@Brendan I agree. An RB coming off a torn ACL & MCL is not a good bet unless his name is Adrian Peterson, so the Jets better bring in another RB somehow.

@frustjetfn I'm 100% with you on this. We simply can't go to battle with fewer healthy explosive bodies. Goodson was that guy at the start of the season. The guy "pops". I'm hopeful he'll come back fully, but I'm skeptical. I'd go so far as drafting a guy like Sims using our 2nd or one of our 3rd round picks. He's being compared to Forte. In MM's system and paired with Ivory our running game would be beastly. I also draft Lee in the 1st and Dante Moncrief in whatever round makes sense. Boom, instant offense.

@frustjetfn He was suspended for a crime he hasn't been convicted of, and had a season ending injury in October. It's not like he was sitting on his couch flipping through the channels and noticed that there was a Jets game he was supposed to be playing in.

@jake100

What a joke, they give the worst of the RB's, Donald Brown the best chance of becoming a Jet. This guy is a bum, why would we want him?

@SackDance99

McFadden hasn't played more than 13 games through 6 seasons now. Why would we want a guy who can't make it 16 games and into the playoffs?

I get you like his style but 6 seasons worth of injuries is too much to gamble on for me.

Ha! I just got out of jury duty like a week ago.

@__fense enjoy.  I was a juror on a weapons case in Somerset County...NJ laws are no joke.

I'd expect all of those to be at least twice as expensive as Goodson, in which case no.

I wouldn't take ANY of the guys you mention......age, injury prone and skill level are all reasons.

@jake100 This is the first time he's ever been arrested, and he's still never been convicted of anything.

@jake100

The Raiders 'dumped' him because of salary cap issues, not performance issues.

@a57se I do wish we got to see him play for real.

@DarrolRayFanClub I'm going to look stupid for this, but I totally missed the joke here. Did someone really try to say that or something?

frustjetfn

@__fense@frustjetfnI am aware of that, but that's not the issue. Instead, the issue is a players availability to the team. Anything that reduces a players ability to be used by the team in a game barring a game time injury or a practice injury while preparing for a game hurts the team and is negative man hours.

In this scenario, the team first rule would dictate Goodman be cut since he was unavailable to the team for the first 4 games which may have contributed to his fitness and injury later on. I know this is not a warm & fuzzy / scholarship / welfare / retirement village-type system, but it is a strict, team first and at all cost, serious commitment to winning by the organization. In short, it's a no nonsense view of playing time as the most valuable resource a team has.

@Bent

Plus none of those guys would provide the role Goodson was brought in for......MJD would be the closest.

@a57se @jake100 They didn't even dump him.  His contract ran out.

@__fense@DarrolRayFanClub yeah, there was a story thats said the jets were the "healthiest" team in the NFL, but it only looked at starters.

Sanchez, Goodson, Kerley, Barnes weren't counted.

@jake100@__fense

Since the other issues you bring up all happened more than 2 years ago, one might assume that he has grown up a little in that regard?
