NFL: New York Jets at Atlanta Falcons

Goodson’s court date delayed

Mike Goodson was due in court on Monday on gun charges, but the hearing was postponed (Cosentino, May 20).

Goodson is due in court again on June 12.

He was previously offered a plea deal of a three-year prison sentence, which he would have to serve one year before being eligible for parole, the report said. Goodson rejected the offer.

Goodson was indicted on second degree unlawful possession of a weapon — for the loaded gun in his car — and fourth degree prohibited weapons and devices — for the hollow-point bullets (TJB, November 7).

He played in just two games for the Jets after serving a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, then tearing both his ACL and MCL in October.

The team currently has six running backs on the roster.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Goodson has a history of being an electric player, but with the addition of Chris Johnson and other potential special teams playmakers being added to the roster like Jacoby Ford and Jalen Saunders Goodson might have a time beating out Bilal Powell for the 3rd running back spot.  While the court issues hang over his head, even if they are resolved it might be that the recovery from ACL/MCL that might prove just as daunting.

Why is he still on the team? Look at his reputation always a problem

Ex-players filing a lawsuit against NFL for illegally administering drugs. Wow. Bit more serious than hiding concussion science from them.

Anyone out there in the NFL ticket market know when the best time to buy tix is? HOW ON EARTH is it so expensive to go to a damn Bills game(one of the cheapest games) in the upper deck. Stubhub is buggin right now. Over $100/ticket in the mid upper deck.

Hey tsjc, totally off-topic -

I was looking through some of yesterday's posts (different time zone will do that to ya) and saw your mock 53 man roster. Couple of things really interested me:

You have Goodson making it as one of the 3 RBS, but not Powell (this makes sense). But then you have young as the FB - you think he is worth more than keeping Powell (who knows the system well, does a lot fairly well though nothing great)?

Then I like the 4 safeties you have you down, but no chance of 5 (perhaps instead of one of the LBs)? Seems funny to cut both bush and Jarrett after they've been in the system awhile.

Which incident is the NFL more embarrassed by.

1) Ray Rice - punching and dragging knocked out fiancé

2) Mike Goodson - passed out and parked on a highway

3) Joe Namath - drunken attempt to kiss Suzy

Feel free to add any other embarrassing episodes.

@jetlife  What Juunit said.

Day-of tickets are always cheapest. Tiqiq.com is actually a good site to use, also. I think there's a link on here for it.

Right before the game when it's sell it cheap or not at all.

Cool stat, thanks for the link. I love Sammy Watkins as a player and it's going to suck watching him because he went to the Bills of all teams. Theyve hit on a couple players recently but still..its the Bills. I'm more sold on Geno than I am EJ too.

@NYCPEinGermany  Well, firstly, that particular 53-man from yesterday was written to answer the question "Can we really carry 8WR?"  (The answer was yes.)  So that's not necessarily what I'd do, just one scenario that makes sense.

As for the specific questions of RB/FB and safety:

- Yes, I think either Bohanon or Young make the roster, and no, I doubt we'd cut FB altogether to carry an extra RB (whether we're already carrying 3 or 4).  I have a sense that the team values having an actual FB on roster, both for power packages and red-zone runs, provided that that FB can actually pass-block and run routes out of the backfield as a safety valve, which will be a key determinant as to which FB gets a roster spot.  JMHO.

- I could see scenarios where either Bush, or Jarrett, or both make the team, depending on how they look, how Pryor looks, how Allen looks, how Landry looks, how Brandon Dixon and Dex McDougle look (as in, can we stash one of them on the PS? are they immediate contributors?) whether or not we bring back Reed, and whether we carry just 4 safeties or carry 5.  Lots of moving parts there, won't be sorted out until August.

Kremer: What is non-negotiable, when it comes to your wives?

Coughlin: At the end of the season, she gets five days.  No discussion, we go somewhere.  Five days.

FIVE FREAKING DAYS OUT OF 365?  Christ, that's pitiful.  I totally see why Cowher and Gruden keep turning down calls to go back to coaching and stay in broadcasting.  Being an NFL Head Coach is like being in the world's most glamorous prison.

Potential for a damn big piece here. I can't even blame the old players though. They made peanuts compared to what the NFL rakes in now. I'd want some too.

Good to know, now hell the do we get around the parking lot fiasco at metlife? Show up at like 7? Took me like 2 hours from when I saw the staidum to when I actually parked when I went to a couple games this past season. I know theres a parking loophole somewhere!

@tsjc68 @NYCPEinGermany  I'd rather we cut FB altogether, and just send out Boss Hogg for the few times we're on the goal line or it's 4th and inches or something, and use that spot to carry another RB.

@tsjc68 @NYCPEinGermany

Good thoughts. I'm down with carrying 8 WRs for sure if they seem worth it.

Don't like the uncertainty about bringing Reed back though - oughtta be a virtual given!

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @bklyndude

I agree.  Alcohol and/or drugs were involved in at least two of those incidents.

I hope Ray Rice was not in his right mind when he decided to beat up his fiance,  it would be really sad if he was completely sober and clean and did this.

@tsjc68 Rex is the man though, I love how the coaches backed him too. I remember a couple guys in here making a big deal about that. If I remember right, wasn't that a Manish article?

A lot of guys don't pay much attention to their wives.  And a lot of those guys don't make millions.  I know my wife would be unhappy with the amount of time I spend modeling if I wasn't bringing in eight figures every year...

@Junnit Watch Goddell come fly in with his NFL cape and make some over the top rule change now. "what!? another lawsuit!? derrrr quick more playoff games!"

If you can't take the heat, get out the kitchen... you have to be a new jets nation member, because I don't know too many timid ones! C'mon guy... just become an eagles fan-it will be much safer for you.

@gbrownn  I take the train and it's pretty nice. You'd probably go to Secaucus and then transfer over to the metlife train (which only has like 3 stops, the stadium, Secaucus, and I think somewhere in the city, but I'm not sure). It isn't really rowdy at all before the game. very little drunks, everyone is going to the stadium so there's no pushing or shoving, and then the train back is a little more lively (if we win). Some JETS chants and some people that are drunk, but I haven't seen anyone super-annoyingly-drunk. There is a bit of a wait after the games to get back on the train though, so you'd have to be ready for that. I think the most I've waited is a half hour to get back on the train, and it's cheaper than getting parking.

a57se

@gbrownn

Oh, I thought it took two hours from when you saw the stadium to when you finally parked....figured taking the train would solve that.

gbrownn
gbrownn

@a57se @jetlife Yeah I mean for me to take the train from Philly to Metlife(which is like in the middle of nowhere) I'd probably have to go to NY Penn first and then to Metlife. As opposed to an hour and half drive. That train that drops people off in front of Metlife looks fun, but I feel like it would just be too much rowdy stuff.

@__fense @tsjc68 @NYCPEinGermany  If Chad Young can play as well as he looked in that highlight reel, he'll be just a flat out better back than Bilal Powell regardless of position and make this conversation moot.

@jaygo @borisjets @tsjc68 @gbrownn  They had a similar discussion to this on NFLN on day two of the draft.

Everyone was saying how great it was that the GM of some team had skyped in his picks because he was attending his son's graduation because family is so important and then one of them said "Hey remember when Rex went to that thing for his son and all the heat he took?" and they pretty much agreed that this was a double standard.

Brendan
Brendan

@borisjets Spoiler alert: Most coaches respect Rex and if questioned will admit it.

Even Belichick, he of "best defense in the league? suck my dck" fame, respects Rex.

The media paints Rex as a clown, 31 other coaches (maybe 30, excluding Tommy TomTom) look at Rex's situation and shudder at the thought of being in his shoes.

borisjets

@tsjc68 @gbrownn  BTW, the ny media would have you believe that coughlin and rex hate each other. If you watch the videos, they actually respect each other.

@gbrownn  Indeed it was.

I eagerly anticipate Manish excoriating Tom Coughlin, Bruce Arians, and John Harbaugh for besmirching THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF THE PRO-PERSONNEL YEAR!!!!!
