Hill practicing, Milliner on bike

Stephen Hill is back at practice on Tuesday after being out with an illness.

Dee Milliner, Troy Davis, Antwan Barnes, Clyde Gates, Jeff Cumberland and others are in the trainer’s area to start practice.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It’s hard to know what to take from Milliner hopping on the bike, other than it can be construed as progress.  High ankle sprains can take around six weeks (give or take) to heal and Milliner’s injury came on August 10th.  Depending on the severity of the injury, Milliner could be ready to go against the Raiders, or might not be able to play until Week 2 or 3.

Considering that the Jets will likely face either Matt Schaub (fingers crossed) or Derek Carr on opening weekend, the Jets might consider hedging their bets with Milliner until Week 2.

I have been waiting for years for the Jets to rid their roster of Hill, Sanchez, and Vlad........We are two thirds of the way there...

It isn't personal - I want to win

The Jets need to move on from Hill if their not going to use him. I'm as big an advocate for Hill as I was for Sanchez. I do believe that Hill has talent but it's not working out here.

Yes, Mark has a lot of talent ,he just doesn't have the command of the players around him . NEVER seen Mark bark at a player for doing something wrong. I know we all have our ways but sometimes you have to do what's necessary.

Have a feeling we will be hearing Patterson is gone any minute now.  Just a hunch

Logan Mankins was a GREAT Patriot. Thank God Belichick made this trade because if it were anyone else I'd be trying to flip over my car.

LOL, at some pats fan reasoning for Mankins Trade.

"you guys wanna keep Reyes right" "Gotta have enough money to sign Revis"

@jsadolph

C'mon jsadolph...you're a forward thinking guy.....go back to Tannebaum and the way he handles (DEMANDED) the 5th year on Revis's rookie contract!!!

Which BTW, Tannebaum was FORCED to pay THROUGH THE BUTT for by Schwartz !!!

@AdamSchefter

Patriots will receive Bucs' fourth-round pick in 2014 in additon to TE Tim Wright in exchange for G Logan Mankins.

They're also saying the depth at OG is "really good"

whether this is true or not I have no idea, but I doubt it.

@drjreefer Why should they want to keep him?  The Bucs didn't.

@drjreefer Hahaha.

One of my pat fan frieds said they're probably doing this to go after Dez Bryant. I told him, "if it makes you feel better to believe that, good for you."

@drjreefer Little did they know, as the cap space goes up, so do Revis' demands.

@Bent @williamg1 A couple of guys on here were having a battle on another blog a few weeks ago when the author suggested his sources with the Jets say Hill is on the verge of getting cut.  Now in hindsight that guy was right. We all scoffed at him....whoops

Bent

@Oberyn1 @drjreefer It may well be, but Pats fans can apparently say their unknown bunch of career backups, young draftees with no experience and journeymen constitutes really good depth without getting mocked like when Jets fans do the same thing about their secondary, despite the fact the resumes as comparable.

Why would Bryant be the totally unrealistic and never happening WR they're dreaming of? His personality doesn't exactly mesh with the way Belichick operates.

NOT TRUE !!

Cap space went up (approx 8%)....Revis's salary went DOWN 25% !!

Misleading AGAIN, Brendan????

What is the use of extending Revis if you can't protect your franchise player.

carlhungus

@williamg1 @jaym Well, Mankins has been injured, he costs a boatload of money, they will probably turn around and sign Incognito for pennies on the dollar, and they picked up a 4th and a serviceable TE while creating cap room for future.... its interesting..... will say that...

Brian Serviss
Brian Serviss

@Brendan @jaym I don't know. I saw someone say that he gave up the second most sacks among guards last year. But the Patriots 4th round history isn't too good either

@Brendan @jaym

Bill is such a Genuis that he wants to get Tommy killed so that he can get the No. 1 pick next year and get Mariotta and do the old Payton/Luck switcharoo.

To be honest I think that was baseless.  I've heard from Jets sources that "he's never going to put it together" and "we're fed up of waiting for him to develop" but they weren't high ranking sources and I put more stock into MM and Rex comments that he's looking better in practice and we're hoping it will translate onto the field.

It didn't.  Others outplayed him.  Game over.  Hill was always planned to compete for a bigger role as far as I can see.  He just didn't deliver.

It was Doug Gabriel from NFP.

Correction: GREG Gabriel

@williamg1 Depends on how many they keep.

Locks: Decker/Kerley/Nelson

STs likely locks: Hakim/Saunders

If they keep one more, it's probably Salas. If they keep two more, though? Gates could be the guy.

Revis just wanted to set the bar for CB's !!!

@jdb4 @Oberyn1 @jaym Mankins has been a thorn in the Pats side for quite some time. Sort of like Revis was here.

Tampa Bay seems to be the go to place for getting rid of talented by disgruntled AFC East talent.

I don't think he will for several reasons that I don't feel like typing out. But the conclusion is Revis is a mercenary at this point.

Mankins has played well this preseason according to my sources (roommate).

williamg1

@carlhungus @williamg1 @jaym If I understand this correctly, he'll count $4M this year and next for the Pats. That would amount to $2.6 million in savings each year.

@Brian Serviss I saw the same comment, the number was 11, right? Well, PFF has him at 9, which is one less than Winters. That's not great.

But on the flip side, the guy was a flesh-filled bulldozer in the run game, where he finished top-5 for the year. He was also next to a poops center and we saw with Mangold how trying to compensate for a lesser player can hurt the guy next to him.

BDarc23

Are you asking me if he can play QB? and if he can't then he's not valuable?

jsadolph
jsadolph

@Oberyn1 @jsadolph

No, I am saying that the cap space that you said that they created by unloading Mankins could be used to pay Revis.  And I came back with the fact that having the best shutdown corner in the league doesn't matter when you morgage your best player on your O-line to free that space and you get your QB killed.  Expecially when said QB can more than compensate for poor CB play, but no matter how good the CB is he can't compensate for poor QB play.(See Revis, Sanchez)

Ahh ok. That's a good point. I just think you're overrating how devastating this trade was to the Pats. I doubt their line is going to collapse, and I dount Brady is always going to be running for his life.

I could be wrong, though.

Brian Serviss
Brian Serviss

@Oberyn1 @jsadolph Brady, in this stage of his career, is throwing more and more quick slants, screens, and passes behind the line of scrimmage. i personally don't think it's going to be that huge of a loss

jsadolph
jsadolph

@Brian Serviss @Oberyn1 @jsadolph

He is also relying on the running game more than he ever used to and a week link in the middle will mean that he will have to abandon that quicker and teams jump routes easier.(see Brian Winters 2013 season)

@Brian Serviss @Oberyn1 @jsadolph

After signing a new deal last year and then losing Wes Welker and now Logan Mankins,  I have to think Tom Brady wants to walk into Bill Belichick's office and take a big dump on his desk and say thanks a lot.

bklyndude

@jsadolph @bklyndude @Brian Serviss @Oberyn1

Belichick you dope,  you have a HOF QB.  You give him everything he needs and stay out of his way.

In Denver they try and give Peyton as much as they can in the final years of a HOF career.

jsadolph
jsadolph

@bklyndude @jsadolph @Brian Serviss @Oberyn1

I think Bill is trying to test Tom by taking away all his toys and see if he can still produce.

A couple of years ago he took away all of his WR's and Tom just made the TE's look great. And somehow Bill came out of this looking like a genuis by exploiting everyone else's weakness by using a 2 TE set.

Bill's not a Genuis, he is an A$$HOLE that Tom keeps making look good.
