Idzik Makes Front Office Moves

With the draft done and over with, general manager John Idzik has begun to make changes to the Jets’ front office after having a chance to evaluate his staff.

The Jets will not renew the contracts of assistant director of college scouting Michael Davis and area scout Joe Bommarito, according to multiple sources.

Davis had been with the Jets for 16 years, the last five as assistant director of college scouting. He is also responsible for scouting the Southeast, including SEC and ACC schools.

Bommarito had been with the Jets for 12 years and was responsible for the West Coast.

Eric Weeks,

With the draft as close at hand as it was when Idzik took over back in January, it’s normal for teams to wait until it’s over before making changes to their personnel department. This isn’t necessarily an indictment on these two men as they recently had a hand in the selection of a few of the Jets’ rookies.
That said, Idzik has emphasized competition on the field and this philosophy of earning your place can certainly be applied to the front office. Idzik is looking to rebuild this team and refill the cracks and holes that have been apparent for some time now and it starts with surrounding himself with guys he will obviously feel more comfortable with.

Brian Bassett,

While at the Draft over the weekend, we had a few conversations with folks who have dealings with the Jets who expected that there would be some scouting changes taking place when the draft concluded, so this is the first shoe to drop.

More moves might take place in the coming days, but it’s still hard to say who will stay and who will go. ¬†Look to see with whom Idzik replaces the openings … are they others from inside the organization or people he has known and trusted from his days in Seattle, Arizona or Tampa Bay?
