Injury Report: Milliner out for Sunday

Dee Milliner (ankle) will not play on Sunday, Rex Ryan confirmed to reporters on Friday.

Josh Bush (quad) and Ikemefuna Enemkpali (foot) will also not play.

None of the players practiced this week.

Antonio Allen (concussion) and Nick Bellore (calf) are both probable.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It is nothing we didn’t expect from the Jets. High ankle sprains generally take 4-6 weeks depending on the severity. As of now, it’s been less than a month and the extra week could do Milliner a world of good.

No NFL team is to be taken lightly, but the risk-reward over a 16 game season of bringing back Milliner too soon against an aging Raiders team starting a raw rookie QB can’t be underestimated.

as a diehard jets fan it hurts me to say this is the worst jets team we've had in 37 years.every scout said to stay away from geno in the draft know we know why. the good news is after a 0-16 season we pick first. Winston in geno unemployed.

I don't know why we are even in this situation when you have Drayton Florence, Jabari Greer and Asante Samuel available who would make good stop gap players for this season and perhaps their play can be all the difference, if we can pick 2 of the three then Milliner comes in one stays opposite side him the other can start at nickel, or heck sign all three and get rid of wilson, then you move Allen back to safety now the defense will dominate on all dimensions, I hope it's not Idzik being negligent, hopefully he has a plan like wait till their salaries aren't gauranteed, but I believe it shouldn't matter since we'll need these guys all season, and they can sign them for just this year, plus if you wait till next week, I'm sure other teams are thinking the same thing and we run the risk of not signing them at all. We should sign them now, give them a good weeks practice, the Raiders game is another practice for when they play Green Bay.

EDIT: Regarding the interception in the Bengals preseason game- "I think we ran that exact same route about 25 times the next day in practice. To take it a step further, Geno and I watched that play together so he could see what was going through my mind, and I could see what was going on in his."

And Boys....and Girls......the Milliner Saga continues.....

I know this must be burning up Rexy....he's NOT cutting any slack to this guy, so we'll see!!!

Meanwhile....The Farm is proven right one more day and Brendan must be burning up inside !!!

@Pablo Bruno

Because those three guys will be signed after week 1. When their salaries aren't guaranteed.

Bruno, I've been saying this for two weeks.

It's not happening (especially before week 1, when contracts become guaranteed for tge whole year), deal with it.

@Hanknaples Well maybe their treating this Raiders game as it's another preseason game, the raiders are going with their Rookie QB, their line will be overmatched by our D Line, no need to rush Milliner into this game considering the QB's we'll be facing, we need Milliner 100 percent, and keeping him out an extra week is a smart move, I'm sure if we needed him this week he would play.

Milliner has a high ankle sprain. Not much of a saga.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Disgruntled Jets Fan yea but we need help at corner all year, it's not like we have the luxury to try these guys out for a few months then dump them, we would actually need them until the season ends.

Pablo Bruno

@Paul Samuels @Pablo Bruno I'm for getting at least 2 of them, maybe Drayton along with Greer, we should be o.k in the secondary with them and Milliner back in the lineup.

@Pablo Bruno

Absolutely good point but Bruno It is what it is and history proves that Milliner takes  a while to recover!1

High ankle sprains are a difficult beast to master and we'll have to see how Milliner "Mounts this Beast" !!!

@Hanknaples I thought Rex got on him for not exercising or strengthing his legs or something, I think it may be a conditioning thing Milliner needs to spend his offseason occupied in keeping his legs conditioned, yea last year he was riding the bike during camp as well, but once he started playing he didn't get hurt, so it proves my point, while he is physically active he is fine, but from the offseason to camp something is not right.

SackDance99

I've had high ankle sprains and it is like that...one day you wake up, the pain isn't there, you run and it doesn't swell and you're good to go. Injuries are often day-to-day.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Disgruntled Jets Fan your'e right, and it's not we are in desperate need at corner and nothing is happening, I hope by the time that contracts are no longer gauranteed that they'll be someone we can sign who would immediately fill that void, other teams are thinking the samething wait till next week. We just need one more guy and the defense will be set for this season, Greer or Drayton or both.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Paul Samuels @Pablo Bruno AA isn't a corner, this experiment with AA is going to bite us in the rear soon, AA is a good safety and paired with Pryor they might be the best tandem in football, why screw around with that?

Hanknaples

@Pablo Bruno

I really don't know, wish I did. But we need to find out how good this kid can be ASAP...TONS invested in a very critical position for EVERYONE!! In today's NFL CB on defense is the 2nd most critical position!!

Hanknaples

@SackDance99

Depending on the type of sprain....we are led to believe that is less than a Type 1...sooo less than four weeks, right??

Disgruntled Jets Fan

I'd say there may be a chance they sign someone after this weekend. Depends on how the game goes.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Hanknaples @Pablo Bruno I'm sure he'll be fine, I do think Milliner needs to do something in the offseason to help him come back to camp healthy, in think the problem lies there, as far as ability, I think Milliner will be fine, he may not be revis island but I bet he'll be a pro bowler someday.

SackDance99
SackDance99

Were we really led to believe that? I thought the prognosis was 4-6 weeks. If 5 weeks is the midpoint, isn't he on track?

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Disgruntled Jets Fan yea, I hope so, and if the deadline is Saturday night at 12:00am, I hope Rex or who ever do those signings stay up that night to sign them at 12:01, who ever we sign needs to be at practice on monday or tuesday when ever that first practice takes place.

@Pablo Bruno

I really hate NOT being as optimistic as you are about this kid...IDK, I just think his hips are not fluid enough . I know he's got the speed and can play the edge and come in but the double moves can kill him !!!

Like I said...he needs to be on the field ASAP for the good of everyone !!

Hanknaples
Hanknaples

@SackDance99

You are correct SD!1

However that 4-6 prognosis weeks is for the independent thinker (Google Anyone?) and the information coming from Jets camp is that Milliner has been  " walking cutting and working out", right??

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Hanknaples @Pablo Bruno You'll see, what impressed me this preseason was that series he played against Andrew Luck in the preseason game, Luck tried to throw darts his way and Milliner broke those passes up.

SackDance99
SackDance99

Well, even the optimistic 4 weeks ends on Sunday meaning he was always likely out for the 1st week, something Rex admitted a couple of weeks ago. All teams fudge injuries, Belichick has made it an art form. I never thought Milkiner would play, unless he's an unusually quick healer.

Hanknaples
Hanknaples

@SackDance99

And the point here is NOT the normal SOP in the NFL. It is Rexys way: Zero info and mislead t EVERYONE !!

And I agree totally with your comment  but, please tell Brendan that when he argues with Joey !!

jetsjerk
jetsjerk

@Pablo Bruno @Disgruntled Jets Fan After the Raiders game Rex will reevaluate the CB film and  situation.  Depending on how we faired, I can see him begging for a vet, but Greer is the only one I would consider out of the group mentioned. It looks as though the Idzik  mantra "stay younger" will prevail.  Hopefully, the Walls/Allen Experiment is hugely successful! GO JETS!!!!!

@Hanknaples Why do you think the coach owes you an explanation or information? Why would he release information to help the opponent be ready for the game?

SackDance99

Rex said that his week 1 availability was "in doubt" on 8/11, which was 1 day after Dee was injured. You're not accurate in your criticism.

Floyd, BTW I love Tucans...they're special (NOBLE)  birds, I believe they live close to 100 years !!

And NO ho one owes me an apology, maybe except woody, but you can be honest WITHOUT hurting yourself or your team !!!

Floyd Toucanet
Floyd Toucanet

@Hanknaples It would hurt the team if Oakland could prepare 100% sure that Dee Milliner is not going to play rather than having to prepare with the knowledge that he probably will not play.

Floyd Toucanet
Floyd Toucanet

@Hanknaples Toco Toucans (the ones that look like the Fruit Loops bird) live about 15-25 years. The low end in the wild and high end in captivity. Emerald Toucanets are smaller and live 20-30 years in captivity. Their life spans are increasing due to knowledge of hemochomatosis (iron storage disease). They must eat low iron diets due to the scarcity of iron in their diet in the wild their bodies absorb the iron too well and they were being poisoned in captivity due to feeding them foods high in iron. Now that it's common knowledge to feed them low iron diets their life spans are growing but I have never heard of any type of toucan, aracari, or toucanet living over 50 years.  They are very noble and intelligent birds. On the avian intelligence tests only crows, ravens, and african grey's consistently score higher.

@Hanknaples @SackDance99

Dee Milliner - DB - Jets

Jets coach Rex Ryan conceded Monday that CB Dee Milliner's (high ankle sprain) Week 1 availability is "in doubt."

The Jets are so thin that they've moved safety Antonio Allen to cornerback, at least for the time being. Milliner had been scheduled for a Sunday MRI, but his ankle is too swollen to be tested. ESPN's Ed Werder reported this morning Milliner's timetable was 3-4 weeks. That's already sounding pretty optimistic.Source: Manish Mehta on TwitterAug 11 - 1:19 PM

@Hanknaples To find a nest log rather then build it themselves Toucans listen for woodpeckers and hang out in the area until the woodpecker is done building it's nest and then steal the nest from the woodpecker. They like to nest in hollowed out trees but their beaks are not very good at digging in wood even tho they are very large. Their beaks are amazing. They use them to regulate their body temp. and the outside is almost like a fingernail and the inside is like light weight foam. They are studying the molecular structure to design light weight alternatives to sheet metal, kevlar, and other things. http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/news/news_releases/release.sfe?id=417

Hank question:  Show me where he said his "availability was in doubt " for week one !!

Rex quote the day after the injury: Jets coach Rex Ryan conceded Monday that CB Dee Milliner's (high ankle sprain) Week 1 availability is "in doubt."

Classic Hank:  So now that you have shown me the quote, the day after the injury,  where Rex does indeed admit Milliner's Week 1 availability is "in doubt",  Hank double's down on his stupidity and claims: You have just proven my point !!!
