Ivory, Mangold on sidelines, Milliner out of walking boot

Dee Milliner is at practice, sans walking boot. He is limping though, according to the team’s beat reporters.

Milliner does have a high-ankle sprain, an MRI confirmed, Rex Ryan said after practice on Monday.

Chris Ivory and Nick Mangold were both on the stationary bikes to open practice on Monday. Mangold was held out with a toe injury, Ryan said.

Jalen Saunders was also on the bikes following Friday’s medical incident while driving to the Jets facility.

Jeff Cumberland and Antwan Barnes were working with staff on the sidelines.

Ras-I Dowling sat out with a groin injury.

I try not to listen to Francessa, but all the people on ESPN are as bad or worse. Anyway, just heard big Mike just say, "there is no way the Jets can solve their CB problem before the season starts. " really? Did you see Lankster Saturday? Did you know Milliner will be back by probably week 2? The CB situation is far from ideal, but this is just typical Francessa Jet hating. He also said there is no way Rex can scheme around the issue. We'll see in 3 weeks.

The heck with the droopy bowl, play the starters one quarter and not at all in the last preseason game. The injury's are mounting up, the Jets need to be healthy for the start of the season.

A sand walking boot? I feel like that's counterproductive.

@Pete 57 I dvr'ed the game cuz i missed it on saturday, so ill watch it once i get home.  But how did lankster look and who did he cover?  Also, how did walls do?  I heard of Wilsons lapse on Sanu.  I have a feeling a lot of teams will have receivers go long from the slot to attack wilson and even draw out safeties to get at other receivers on an island (island caused by safety attention).

@Pete 57 Nobody understands that Rex is a defensive genius, who gets the most out of his players.  Allen won't start at CB against Oakland.  If Milliner is out, the starters will be Lankster, Walls, or Patterson with Wilson in the slot, and Landry, Pryor and Allen rotating in as needed at safety.  My guess is that Rex will use the 46 liberally, especially when the opponent is immobile and/or doesn't have a quick release.  Plus, if the Jets offense can get a lead, I don't care who the CBs are, the QB will be running for his life.  Plus, the secondary is better this year than last year.  Amazing how people forget how poor Cro and Milliner played for the bulk of last season; an 8-8 season that had more to do with issues in the passing game than anything else.

@Pete 57 Francesa  sounds like the laziest man in show business. I rarely listen him anymore, but half the time his callers call to talk about a local or national game that he should have watched (it's kind of his job) he replies "I didn't see it."

He also said the Babin signing was a clear indication that Coples is in trouble. It's pretty clear that Babin is here to replace Barnes for the time being.

@Pete 57 ESPN and the other MSM clowns take their Jet-bashing cues from Fatso, who wrote the book on it.

Francesa also said for the Jets to succeed, they need a four man rush and play a cover two.

Of course, he gave the Giants the lion's share of time thus far.

@Pete 57 Everyone is against us! I was just handed the mail from the mailman and I  said to him, good afternoon, he looked at me and said the Jets suck! lol

You prefer a mountain bike? Unicycle?

Probably stubbed his toe running over to photobomb Vick.

@a57se Someone finally told him he isn't getting enough cardio?

@James Illya Uko Lankster started and switched with Allen on coverage duties. Lankster looked really good, he definitely earned more meaningful reps, imo. Walls looked good, but he only got in there with the backups.

I heard he looked good. I just wonder about his FS skills.  I know hes a hard hitter and a hard hit to cause a fumble could be just as valuable or even more valuable than a safety interception (as long as the jets recover), but i would prefer range than big hits.  But if he has both, i would be extremely happy.  And now that dennard darqueze has a hip injury that no one knows the severity of, i feel better with this pick.

So he was on Aj green?

I heard AA did a decent job and that green kinda pushed off for that big play.  I think AA is like a poor mans Cromartie who isnt afraid to tackle and has better technique...so he might be a rich mans cromartie.

Also, any damn word on rontez possibly joining the team besides special teams?  I always hear about him.  But hes more of a SS than a FS right?

@James Illya Uko They both guarded AJ. AA did do a decent job, his only real mistake was letting AJ get separation on him on a 35 yard pass, but in reality AJ pushed off and could have been called for Offensive PI. It was definitely an impressive start to playing a position he's pretty unfamiliar with. He showed the raw skill to press and stay with his man, and is already better at locating the ball than Wilson is.

Miles is definitely suited better for a going-forward safety role, but I think you hear about him on STs because he's really good on those units.

I think the STs of the Jets is finally going to be back near the tops in the league, there are a lot of young, talented guys fighting for jobs there.

@SackDance99 @James Illya Uko @Pete 57 90% of these hits are now banned in the NFL...even banned in the WWE.  Although they are def sexy.  LOok if pryor can put fear in receivers coming over the middle or even on deep routes on the sidelines, im all for it.  I just hope he doesnt become bob sanders and has too short a career.  Hopefully he develops even more of his centerfield skills

Well hopefully they keep IK Ekepafjnsdjfn;sd (cant spell his name...should be ashamed because im nigerian but whatever).  i keep hearing about him makign an impact and getting a strip sack here and there.  If michael sam can make it (and possibly for other reasons besides football although he did have a strong game in his first outing), then IK should be able to make it.  I think AA will be suited for a CB role.  I did hear he played well and i think he has a nice mix of range, technique, and aggressive that could help.  this would allow pryor to play FS but play a lot closer to the line if they want.  But with such inexperience i find it hard that the jets play less cover 2 play.  We have no revis to keep guys on an island

@SackDance99 @James Illya Uko @Pete 57 You mean like the bs they just called on patrick chung in teh pats game against the eagles.  Trust me i think most of the hits are legal, but they refs will be whistle happy with any hard hit that they cant see clearly.

@SackDance99 Since I didn't have the chance to watch Plank play, how was he in coverage?

That's one area of Pryor's game that's being vastly overlooked, I think, especially in terms of the amount of ground he can cover back there.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@Brendan @SackDance99 Teams really didn't have much chance to get deep on Buddy's Bears, so Plank was more known for crashing the box and killing crossers.  He was a smart player, though.  But, he was more SS than FS.  Gary Fencik played FS and he was sort of like a harder hitting, bigger Jimmy Leonhard (Fencik was a Yale grad).  Together, they were like Thomas and Chancellor.
