Jacoby Ford out with foot injury

Jacoby Ford was sidelined from OTAs on Wednesday due to a foot injury (Hubbuch, June 11).

The Jets signed Ford on April 1 for $740,000 (TJB, April 3).

In three seasons with Oakland, Ford had 57 total catches for 848 yards. He caught three touchdowns, but none in 2013. He also returned punts and kickoffs, returning the ball for over 300 yards on 25 punts and kickoffs last season.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

the New York Jets signed Jacoby Ford as an insurance policy in the lead up to the draft.

The Jets now have Jalen Saunders among other players that might compete as special-teams returners. Ford has proven that he can make a difference as a special teams player over his career. The trick of course is remaining healthy this summer … we will see if it’s something he can do during training camp.

I'm sort of surprised that guys with a history of being injured, are injuring themselves.

Remember, he's getting over a Lisfranc just like Tone.  His was less serious but still, these things take time and he has been out there running at full speed in previous OTAs.

He almost made it to training camp.

Hey maybe this is why Goodson chose not to participate in a voluntary  training camp...

No bueno Jacoby, No bueno. Hope this is just precautionary because this is one of the guys I really cant wait to see play for us. Gotta stay healthy!

@jake100 Because you have nothing else to freak out about presently?

@Bent Yeah, this is another guy we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for. I think this signing was another instance of throwing a bunch of crap (like stucco) against the wall and hope some of it stinks. Other than the fact we lacked a player with great speed I never understood this signing in the first place? Yeah, he's fast but so far that speed hasn't translated into any significant success through his first three or four years in the league and when you consider the fact that he will again be working with the same position coach who could not get much out of him,Hay-wood Bey,Steven Hill (among'st others), I will be surprised if he makes much(if any contribution to this years team.

@Bent I didnt know thats what he had for an injury. Hopefully it just needs rest and didnt re injure it.

@levi Did you see that Sean Weatherspoon ripped up his ACL at an OTA drill and is out for the year, just like Sean Lee?

Good thing we have a policy of "no linebackers named Sean".  Dodged a bullet there.

@jake100
Maybe it was a member of the kool aid brigade, lol

Same old Joeyboy.  It's sad, really.

@Ron Alexander @Bent As a rookie this guy looked like he was going to be a mega-star.  Just struggled with injuries since then.  At worst he's a better kick returner than we had on the roster all of last year.

@levi More info:

"Injuries – Ford’s injury history can be summed up in one word which should send shivers down the spine of any die-hard Jets fans: Lisfranc. While Ford’s Lisfranc injury was apparently not as severe as the one which felled Santonio Holmes in 2012, it did re-occur in the following season, requiring surgery. Now one year removed from that surgery, the hope would be that he might be closer to his old self than he was last season. As noted, he was healthy throughout 2013, apart from a sprained knee that hampered him in preseason."

@tsjc68 @levi We did well not to sign DeSean then, just in case.

Right? Because it was clearly Jim Jones' cousin, MIKE JOOOOOONES who be editing the posts.

@jake100 @Brendan

He has a valid point Joey.

by the way, calling him 'peaches' is probably gonna get you in bents' doghouse pretty quickly. Remember brendan was once chastised for using 'pumpkin' a lot. Just a friendly heads up joey.

@Bent @Ron Alexander Yeah, I hear ya about the kick returner stuff but I'm wondering if that's gonna be enough to justify a roster spot when we have so many young receivers fighting for those spots? In addition to Decker,Kerley, Nelson, we have the three rookies, Steven Hill and the three hold overs from last year Gates,Hakeem and one other who's name escapes me?

@Bent  You think he's still having problems from that? Its been a long time.

@juunit Wow, I forgot Mike Jones existed at any point during my lifetime.

@levi @Bent "Foot injury" does seem ominous given his history.

I had a boss named Mike Jones during the Mike Jones era.

We had fun with him.

@jake100 @a57se @Brendan

That's right, i forgot, you ALREADY ARE in bents' doghouse!

Why not just call him Brendan?

Or just tell him to shut up like he did to you for a year?

@junnit @Brendan Bet ya still remember his phone number though!

@a57se I'm sorry, but what?

You were the guy who followed him around and literally posted "Shut up Joey!" after his comments. Please don't pretend that was me, that's legitimately insulting.

@jake100 @a57se @Brendan

I edited my comment but I am not trying to instigate anything. I don't want to see you banned for something stupid like calling brendan 'peaches'.....

@jake100 We all have our moments, myself included. And we have our disagreements, but I do my best to keep it civil and at least on the topic at hand. I appreciate you confirming that I didn't do that to you.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 I'm not offended, I just think it's kind of childish and petty. Do you, though.

And I was being serious. You're just looking for things to fret about and I don't get why. If the season was a week away? Sure, fret all day, but it doesn't, there are many, many weeks between now and Week 1, in fact.

@jake100 Yeah, avoiding a sweep would be nice. Get some momentum, who the hell knows. But a win tonight so they're not celebrating in the Garden would be good.
