Jets claim CB McFadden, waive Lewis

The Jets, desperately in need of a corner help, claimed CB Leon McFadden off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. (Steinberg, Aug. 31)

McFadden was a third round pick in the 2013 draft and played mostly towards the end of last season for the Browns.

The Jets, who cut Dimtri Patterson on Saturday, are thin at corner after several injuries.

Update, 6:30 p.m.:  The Jets released cornerback LeQuan Lewis, who was signed as a free agent Aug. 12.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

McFadden is one of the higher rated young corners to have gotten cut loose in recent days, but any help he might offer is somewhat worrisome considering that Ryan’s old defensive coordinator Mike Pettine cut McFadden himself.

McFadden has the right fluidity and speed to play the position, but can be a bit lacking with his aggression and jamming at the line.  It might be for that reason that Pettine was not interested in keeping him around in Cleveland.  Having said that, Rex Ryan demonstrated willingness to use zone / Cover-2 schemes last fall when required.

McFadden doesn’t seem like a short-term answer for this team but more of a reclamation project … we’ll find out for sure next weekend.

"The addition of McFadden, acquired Sunday on waivers, is strictly for depth. This is one of the worst cornerback situations in the league. "

We didn't have Pryor last year.

I heard that Safeties were part of the secondary too.

Is that true?

Showed the Chi-Cleveland game from Friday earlier tonight on the NFL Network.

On two occasions, the announcers said McFadden was struggling.  Wondering how many survived today that McFadden struggled against  on Friday night.

Time to retire the "keep drinking the kool aide" line. Disagreeing doesn't mean someone is blindly following the moves the GM made.

I don't see how questioning weather he addressed a position or not helps. According to me this is a completely different team with at least 1 or two new players at every position. Injuries happen in real life and john madden.

Without Rex around Pettine is garbage. He was good playing Rex's devils advocate.

Still expecting the Jets to sign Asante Samuel or Drayton Florence after week 1 when salaries aren't guaranteed.

The move will be called a panic move but I suspect that has been the plan for at least a month.  They can give them more money and the deal will essentially be week to week.

Depressing to see how desperate this team is at corner. It would've been a completely different look to this team if Revis was our #1 and Dee was #2. My confidence about the season would be through the roof. They're gonna get burned all year long. Most annoying part is that they had the cap room for Revis and he only got i think 1 or 2 years. It should've been a no brainer to inquire a reunion with him.

@UncleJoesJetFarm Don't be surprised if Milliner isn't back for another month or longer

@dante kaalund You don't understand. Idzik was supposed to sign a pro bowl caliber player for every position. THE JETS HAD CAP MONEY!

@Floyd Toucanet to play devils advocate; must be why he got a headcoaching job after one year of stepping out of Rex's shadow. 2012 the bills were ranked 22nd in total yards/game given up. 2013 they ranked 11th.

@NorthWest Just imagine if we had Clowney, Luck, Megatron, Adrien Peterson and Jarious Byrd too. Then we'd have a team.

Yea it's a weak spot, but how many teams don't have one. Not many. Rex has always found a way to put a good defense on the field. Until he doesn't, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

@Floyd Toucanet @dante kaalund No one is asking or expecting to sign a pro bowler at every position, just to address MASSIVE weaknesses with competent talent- a slight difference. I know, we are in cap hell and an only go dumpster diving, lol. When these weaknesses come to surface and games are lost, then, some will have a different tune.

@levi @NorthWest Don't be silly you are going overboard! This team could be a contender with just a couple of very weak areas being addressed and Idzik fell asleep!

Floyd Toucanet
Floyd Toucanet

@UncleJoesJetFarm I assume you mean CB. He used a 1st round and a 3rd round pick in two years. That's not addressing the position???  WR- He signed the best available receiver and drafted 3, as well as a second round pick on a TE who plays from the slot most of the time. Thats two high profile players at each position.

Revis did not want to be here and I think woody didn't want him here either. Rivers of bad blood on both sides.

Please don't lie. Revis wanted to be here. Revis wasn't wanted here because wnning is less important to Woody Johnson than holding a grudge

Revis loves Rex and enjoys playing for Rex and  Rex wanted Revis in NY. For anyone to say otherwise is proof of either ignorance or stupidity

bradysucks

@NYCPEinGermany @UncleJoesJetFarm

In a coma of stupidity would be more accurate because only a complete dumb arse rolls with Dex McDougal and Dimitri Patterson when he can roll with Revis, Verner, and all of the other options he had.......

Keep drinking the Kool Aid......Nobody is saying Idzik hasn't made some good moves but anybody who thinks he wasn't in a coma of stupidity this offseason when it came to the cornerback position deserves the CB's Idzik "paid for".........lol

@NYCPEinGermany @UncleJoesJetFarm OK, your opinion , but look at our secondary- in shambles, oline depth and who after Decker scares a defense? These issues will come back to haunt us and it is not like we are in cap hell and couldn't address them!

@bradysucks "keep drinking the Kool Aid"

People really still think that this statement makes any sort of sense? Seriously, what is that even suppose to imply?

People are optimistic about their team and it translates to drinking a drink? Sounds logical

Revis was coming back to the Jets?  If you really believe that I feel very sorry for you and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

@UncleJoesJetFarm PATS-Who after Brady scares a defense? PHINS-Who after wallace scares a defense? BILLS-Who after spiller scares a defense? PITT-Who after brown scares a defense? RAVENS-Who after torrey smith scares a defense? COLTS- Who after TY scares a defense? TEXANS- Who after andre johnson scares a defense?

@UncleJoesJetFarm It's in shambles because of injuries though. that torn acl or high ankle sprain could have been Revis too. We'd be in the same spot we're in now.

"oline depth"

is actually pretty good

"who after Decker scares a defense?"

Chris Johnson, Kerley should be respected with a better WR across from him, Amaro should get some attention and Geno's legs

So who should Idzik have signed & at what price?

Floyd Toucanet
Floyd Toucanet

@hitchhiker I love how he just ignored the evidence you posted that Revis didn't want to be a Jet. He will just keep saying the same things over and over. I cant imagine following something for entertainment and being upset about everything it does. Sometimes people need to step back and realize being a jets fan is supposed to be FUN and ENTERTAINING. Arguing about the same points over and over for months doesnt seem like fun. It's like being married to a woman you hate and you have the same arguments about the same stuff every day.

I know someone will say "yes being a jets fan is like being married". NO ITS NOT.

"but do expect HUGE holes to be addressed with a massive salary cap

they were, we signed the top rated WR in FA - hole filled

we signed the top rated QB as our backup and to start if needed - hole filled

We signed a top level OL & resigned Colon - hole filled

The FA CBs were overpriced and overhyped, except mevis, who is a feminine hygiene product (hat tip, DJF). He signed one who got flaky and drafted one who gut hurt.

To say "massive salary cap  to be put to productive use, in which it was not!" is a gross mis-statement of facts. I'm sure if he had a do-over he'd steer clear of patterson, otherwise the plan was sound with bad luck.

This does not even address the issue of carrying some cap over till next year to make sure we can afford to keep our best players. Imagine how you'd be screaming for Idzik's head next year if we couldn't afford to sign our big boys on the DL!

Edit - and I left out the Chris Johnson signing, which I think will go down as an absolute steal

"an apologist for inaction "

There's was plenty of action, unfortunately 2 of the 3 new dbs he added got hurt/flaked out. Not like he didn't address the position at all.

Edit - not to mention AA & pryor's concussions - are those idzik's fault, too?

If you can't provide an answer, I'll assume your criticisms are without merit & are simply trolling.
