Jets coaches upset Vick didn’t come to camp wanting to start?

Some Jets coaches have expressed disappointment that Michael Vick didn’t “show up more hell-bent on winning the starting job,” according to Jenny Vrentas of Sports Illustrated (MMQB, August 22).

“I had some great years and played in some great games and went through a lot,” Vick said. “Now it’s an opportunity for me to refresh myself and take a step back away from the game.”

as long as Vick plays well, who cares if he doesn't want to start even when he does play

Just heard Colon was fined almost 10Gs for a late hit in the bengals game, holy crap!

It was also brought up that even if Vick knew he had no chance at being the starter, that Geno or any current starter is one hit away from IR and that Vick should have the fire and professionalism to practice like it is his job.This is getting old already, just bring on the droopy bowl!

They said, that Vick is smart, and that he could recoup a lot of his lost money while  he was in prison the easy way by holding a clipboard and reeling in a few million until he is 40. The media is hitting new lows.

I never thought I would say this , but the media is starting to get on my nerves. They are bashing the hell out of the Jets saying they are clueless and making fools of everyone. Their logic is, they told Vick that he is just here to push Geno from the getgo, he has only gotten 10-15% of first team reps and the whole world knows Geno is the starter, why not just say so, as it is not a legit competition at all. Why have Vick flustered with all the silly questions, and why not just stop the charade and build unity behind Geno who everyone knows is the starter anyway. They said it makes the Jets look silly, indecisive and there is no constructive reason for this.

I jog 5 miles each day, only because it takes enormous endurance to be a Jets fan.

Tom Coughlin planted this story in hopes of distracting the Jets for tonight's Snoopy Bowl.

So now Vick is criticized for being a good soldier and supporting Geno?? What nonsense....As if the Jets would start Vick if he lobbied for the starting job,,,,,,Vick is the better QB as well and he has been a great teammate

Real fans can smell this BS a mile away

He should be starting. Rex is great with defense but, his lack of offense knowledge remains a problem.

@UncleJoesJetFarm Because the media wants to drive people to their websites to make ad revenue. Controversial, click-bait, headlines and tweets get people over to their websites. Integrity among Jets beat writers is of lowest priority. If you ever have a question with the media, just think about which way the $$ is flowing, and how the beat writer's bosses think they can make more $$.

@metjetnet Actually, there is a story here:

"“It’s kind of hard sitting on the sideline and watching your team play,” Vick says. “But at the same time, when I look around—I look at the stadium, I look at the crowd, I look at myself and see where I’m at—everything becomes irrelevant. I just appreciate the position that I am in.”"

Sounds like Michael appreciates what he has, and is a true pro. Good for him. Good for the Jets, too.

@benmoz Dude, there will be peace between the Israelis and Palestinians before there will be peace between the beat writers and the fans/team.

@bradysucks

There is no answer that will satisfy the media and thats the problem. The question however is loaded.

Too bad we don't have someone who could, what's the word I'm looking for, organize the offense? Yes, if only we had some sort of offensive organizer. ..

do you think Woody Johnson cries every time he thinks about how bad the Jets are at drafting wide receivers?

Who passes on Alshon Jeffrey for Stephen Hill? Who drafts Brian Winters instead of Keenan Allen? Who passes on Sidney Moncrief  for Dex McDougal?Okay...the last one was premature...

lol

@Disgruntled Jets Fan Bad attempt at humor.  The head coach should know something about offense and have some input as to who is the QB.  If Geno loses too many games and they don't make the playoffs, many people feel that Rex could lose his job.  His best shot at winning is with a proven, experienced QB.  Everyone is high on Nick Foles.  Vick beat him out, last offseason. Vick is the man.  Rex knows nothing about offense or Vick would be starting.

Does that mean that by extension, the Jets are God's favorite team?

@bradysucks

Who passes on Matt Leinart for D'Brickashaw Ferguson??

Who passes on Kelly Jennings for Nick Mangold??

Who passes on Nate Salley for Leon Washington??

Who passes on Justin Harrell for Darelle Revis??

Who passes on Justin Durant for David Harris??

Works both ways...

@bradysucks  At least while we are missing on receivers 80% of the time, the Patriots are missing on receivers like 10000000% of the time!

Actually it was a pretty damn good attempt at humor.

Rex knows a hell of a lot about offense - he's probably forgotten more than you and I put together have ever known.

Just because the coach doesn't do what you (a fan) wants doesn't mean he knows nothing about offense, or even sillier, that he has no input as to who will start at QB.

@Jason Lynch @bradysucks Did you read the stats on the pats last season? They were the second highest scoring offense in the league and Brady had a stretch of 6 games of 300 yards or more passing! I would love to miss like that!

@NYCPEinGermany @harvlis @Disgruntled Jets Fan  Germans are not known for their sense of humor so, your opinion doesn't count.  As for your football opinion -- you obviously haven't been watching, if you think Rex has a clue on offense.  This is the guy who stayed with Brian Schottenheimer and chose Tony Sparano as OC's.  He definitely has the final say on who is the QB.  That is exactly what I am saying.  He should have chosen Vick to be the starter but, he doesn't know offense.  Now that Geno is has been made the starter --  of course, I hope he becomes a star and leads us to the promised land.  But, Vick is a proven star, whereas Geno, is still a question mark.

harvlis
harvlis

@RockyMountainJet @harvlis @Disgruntled Jets Fan  By the time that he came back, Foles was doing very well so, it didn't make sense to make the change.  That does not make him less of a QB.  All you have to do is open your eyes and see how comfortable he is at the position, his ability to move out of the pocket, and his arm.  Geno can learn from watching him and still have a nice career, after Vick wins us a SB.

@harvlis @NYCPEinGermany @Disgruntled Jets Fan

Wow, you are clueless. First of all, I'm not German - as most on this blog know.

Second, you are just so wrong on so many counts, it's sad and I'm embarrassed for you.

Rex didn't choose sparano and was forced to have shotty. Do you even follow this team or are you thinking this is a blog about the winnepeg Jets???

harvlis
harvlis

@NYCPEinGermany @harvlis @Disgruntled Jets Fan  Rex is the head coach.  There is no way that he has no say in his offensive coordinator.  His fate is dependent upon the OC.  PS - don't be embarrassed for me.  Just grow up.  What are you, twelve years old.
