Jets confirm eight UDFA signings

As you’ll already know if you’ve been following our UDFA tracker, the Jets have signed eight undrafted free agents since the draft ended. The Jets confirmed those today, according to Randy Lange:

The Jets have agreed to terms with eight undrafted free agents:

■ Steele Divitto, ILB, Boston College (6’2″, 237)
■ Anthony Grady, DE, Missouri State (6’7″, 289)
■ Kerry Hyder, DT/DE, Texas Tech (6’2″, 280)

■ Brent Qvale, OT, Nebraska (6’7″, 315)
■ Zach Thompson, DE, Wake Forest (6’5″, 265)

If you check out our UDFA tracker (as linked above), there are also details of some players who have been invited to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Zach Thompson, defensive end, Wake Forest: Should relate well to Rex Ryan because he has a twin brother, Patrick, the Wake Forest quarterback ... Listed at 6-4, 271 ... Career numbers: 12 sacks, 73 solo tackles and 22 tackles for loss ... Ran well at his pro day -- 4.78 seconds in the 40. Brandon Dixon our sixth round pick is also a twin he has a brother Brian Dixon who is also a DB like Brandon here is video of them doing DB drills. http://m.youtube.com/results?q=brandon%20dixon%20highlights&sm=1

Is this a preview for next years draft.

I still think trading a 6 or 7 next yr for the rights to Blackmon is a no brainer, I know he has had issues but he is also on his last strike. I get we are building around high character guys but I think that's another reason to roll the dice. We have a strong locker room that can lift up a troubled alcoholic on his last chance. If it works out we have another stud WR if not we cut him & lose nothing.

Aren't you counting Barnes twice?

Do the drafted rookies count as on the roster until their signed? That's what I figure is up with having 91 players right now. It would give them some time to figure out who to cut before signing the last draftee.

what happened with Amaro and his angry tweet, was he angry at the Pats? I saw a deal that would have sent him to the Texans for their 2nd round pick and Mallet, but apparently it never happened, which makes me glad, 1 less top pick for the Patsies

Someone yesterday mentioned that the Tahj Boyd pick was us getting brady or something to that affect, wouldn't it be ironic if it turns out true..lol, NE hurts Geno( I hope not) and we're like 8-4, and Rex throws in Tahj Boyd because Vick is hurt too..no surprise there, And were like that's it just end the season, then he manages to win games, gets us into the playoffs, the Defense steps up big time and so does the running game, then we face NE in the AFC Championship game, NE isn't taking us seriously then we rout them out of their own stadium into the superbowl....and weather we win or not, I don't care payback mf's for all those years Brady has burned us. lol

they must've had a harder time fighting for UDFAs this year - if I'm undrafted but have offers from multiple teams, I go to the one that doesn't have 12 draft picks already.

@jake100  What, no follow-up to the napalm you just just tossed out below?

"Ryan will replace him with Vick because of his inaction to replace Sanchez with Tim Tebow when Sanchez struggled."

No.

"QuarterbackMatt Simms will also have something to say about all that, and the Jets will have a media circus on its hands that will finally mean the end of the Ryan era in New York."

Lol. Matt Simms is getting cut, he stinks and Ryan likes Boyd more. There will be no media circus. Boyd is not starting this year, he is a developmental player with some upside. He's going to run scout teams and his mobility will be good to replicate mobile starting QB's in practice so they don't have to rely on WR's or RB's to do it. Vick has stated, unequivocally, that Geno is the starter and Vick's there to push him. Boyd is there to learn underneath both. This is how actual NFL QB depth charts behave when they have a young incumbent starter.

Please take a hike with the bullsh--. Just because when the media says "jump!" you ask "how high!?" doesn't mean you should waste your breathe trying to convince other fans to.

That has got to be the most contrived controversy I have ever seen. The headline should be, "By adding talented players to the roster the Jets have created a problem for themselves".

@grtfuljet  No, we have a TJ Barnes (NT) and an Antwan Barnes (OLB).  Sorry for the confusion, should have included first initials.

@__fense  Yes, they automatically go on a minimum level tender, which is just a placeholder for their eventual contract.

I am pretty sure they count right away.  You have like 24 hours before you need to cut guys so we will probably see one person cut tomorrow.

@marcus81 didn't seem like it wss directed at any team in particular, but maybe a team that told him they'd draft him passed on him.

@Pablo Bruno  I'm just glad that the late-round upside QB gamble we gambled on was mobile Tajh Boyd instead of bronzed-about-to-be-toppled-statue-of-Saddam-Hussein Zach "Jim Druckenmiller" Mettenberger.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  Not just the 12 picks, but the other guys on the roster.

I was much more excited by last year's UDFA haul than this one, but it makes sense, because I was that much less excited by the veteran talent already under contract.

Bent

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  That was supposedly expected to be the case, but a lot of people in that position will have met with the Jets beforehand and probably liked them. I hear Rex is often involved directly in that stage of recruiting and if I was a defensive lineman for example, I'd see working with Rex and Dunbar even if making the team was unlikely as something that would help me to develop and look good on my resume.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @marcus81  The rumor I heard was that the Pats did tell him they'd draft him if he was available when they picked in the first and so the tweet was aimed at them.

@tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno  I'm surprised the Steelers didn't take Mettenberger, or did they, don't remember, anyway, Rothlisberger would be the best mentor for Mettenberger, you can call them the berger franchise, haha

@tsjc68 @Pablo BrunoOK 68 you successfully killed all my 6'-5" Mettenberger as a Jet Rock and Roll fantasies, you can roll the credits now lol!!

@jake100 @Bent  Yep, we're more than halfway there (from the SB to the first preseason game).  That's not usually the case when the draft is earlier.
