Jets have discussed CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie

The Jets have had discussions with Dominique Rogers-Cromartie (Mehta, March 13).

Rogers-Cromartie had 31 combined tackles and three interceptions for the Broncos in 2013, returning one for a touchdown.

The Broncos previously had an offer out to Rogers-Cromartie, but pulled it after they signed Aqib Talib (Crabtree, March 12).

Bent, TheJetsBlog.com

The 27-year-old had a very good season with the Broncos last year, his third team since being drafted in the first round in 2008. He was a Pro Bowler in 2009 and has played in the Super Bowl twice, losing both times.

Rodgers-Cromartie has good speed (sub 4.3 at the combine) and is capable of playing press coverage. Many regard him as the best available remaining cornerback, although it’s not yet known how serious the level of the Jets’ interest is.

He is Antonio Cromartie’s cousin, in case you were wondering.

I feel like we absolutely must sign the best CB in FA, I'd even like to see the best 2 signed.

I wouldn't mind bringing in Rodgers-Cromartie, really if you think of it, we don't need a special group of CB's when you have one of the best if not the best front 7 in football minus an edge rushing OLB whom I hope we can address during the draft.  The secondary cannot be terrible as they were last year, but someone like R-Cro is good enough paired with Milliner. Then Allen is getting better as evidence from last year's performance "prior" to the dumb Reed pick up last year.  I would also get Antonio Cromartie back on the cheap and have him play safety opposite Allen. If he accepts those terms, we'll sign him if not wish him the best and move on.

I said earlier, if were not bringing in a true shutdown corner which I don't think we are cause there's none left on the market (except maybe Cromartie and arguably DRC) we need to sign TWO CB's. And since I'm hearing were interested DRC, and Munnerlyn... I would LOVE to bring in those two in particular. And I say we need two CB's because our Safteys, although there is high hopes for them, are not very talented, and Rex's D has consisted of at least one shutdown corner since he's been here. So i think at this point your looking to grab the best two you can get. Then sign another WR. Is there anyone GOOD left in the guards market??

So is anyone else up for bringing back A Cro. for a deep discount?

Say 3 mill/yr?

If he really is the best remaining QB and can play press, why the hell wouldn't the jets interest be serious? I'd prefer they sign a FA then draft a cb very agin (simply because then I think we'll be too young there this year).

Hard fact is there isn't a top-shelf CB left on the board.  .Munnerlyn, Brown, either Cromartie or even Browner could be short term stop-gaps until Rex's next real cover corner is ready.  Expect that replacement to come in this draft...possibly in a higher round than previously expected.

Sorry but I don't believe anything Mehta is reporting.

DRC, is a step up from the Captain, but the knock on him over his career, is that he is inconsistent. At times, he can look like the very top and other times, grade out in the red. He also takes a lot of penalties. Again, it is about the price.

how about champ bailey, if you your goin gto bring in an older CB then bring back the cromartie we already know and know our scheme, going after DRC is to get younger not older with carlos rogers

cro i a poor talker and would not work as a safety, i rather have reed with the youngster allen and bush for another year and have reed's knowledge rub off on those guys who even now would be better than cro at safety

@Pablo Bruno  Let me get this straight, Siging Reed a future hall of famer and probably the best Safety to ever play the game was dumb and you want to turn a CB who is a poor tackler into a safety and have him as the last line of defense? You may want to rethink that. I do think DRC would be a good pick up though.

kyle wilson is not a bad nickel corner and we still have aaron berry who is coming off an injury but all we need is another starting cb and we should be alright

@NYCPEinGermany  He has consistency issues too...plus maybe his asking price is higher than they'd like.

@Peter Whelan  Regular season he played 27 snaps and was only targeted once (incomplete).

Playoffs he was targeted 7 times and gave up 5 for 62 with a pass defensed.

Prior to 2013 he had never played against Brady.

@rkj473  Just a guess, but I reckon Cro might be his source here.  Could see DRC telling Cro he's about to sign but can't say or hasn't decided where...and I expect Manish has been badgering Cro for updates on his own status.

@jake100  It turns out Revis went to NE for 12mil for one year and I would have  paid that sum, but not a penny more....

How do you feel about this after watching Verner go Joey?

I'm a little down right now...Decker ain't doin' for me either.

@jake100  thats what was said about our cro before rex and thruman coached him up

@levi @Pablo Bruno  Signing Reed was a mistake, he is past his prime, last year he was the culprit of allowing game winning touchdowns for 2 games, had we split those 2 games, the Jets would have made the playoffs, not only that, he took reps away from Allen, which could have benefited him at this stage in his development.  When I'm saying convert Cromartie into a safety, I mean free safety, a ball hawk, I think he can do a good job at that, Allen is the tackler, enforcer if you will.  I believe it would work. But that's just my opinion.

@levi All these? Well I would let Walls go, let Wilson move down the line plug in Munnerlyn and DRC and let Wilson and Munnerlyn share the slot. That's what I would do.

@Marvel @boozerI'm sort of indifferent on Cro.  If he's fully healthy, though, isn't he the best CB still available?  I've already said that I think Darqueeze Dennard will be the Jets pick at 18, especially if the Jets sign Pettigrew and Jones.  So, maybe Cro would be a 1-year stop gap?

@Bent @NYCPEinGermany
I certainly  don't know the answer to this, but I would be more than curious to know who you feel is the best remaining CB?

Please don't use anyone with the initial A.C. cause my head will explode....it'll be quiet and respectful, but none the less these walls will be red.

@SackDance99 @Marvel @boozer

My thing is that Cro's deficiencies didn't appear to be speed related last year, so I think the hip issue was potentially an excuse. He was able to run with receivers, it seemed to me like his awareness was just really horrible. He doesn't seem to have football smarts to me. of course I'm riding sofa and don't purport to be an expert on anything.

@SackDance99 Dennard huh? well youve been reading the tea leaves pretty darn good lately.

@Peter Whelan  Anything less than 10 yards per target is perfectly acceptable.

Those numbers look a little rough. Maybe a bunch of those catches came near the end of the game when Denver was playing softer. I hope.
