Jets Interviewing (Update: Hired) VanGorder

This sheds some light on the Jeff Weeks hiring. There was some ambiguity about his status following the Jets’ coaching staff announcement as we tried to figure out if he was the main linebackers coach and Karl Dunbar’s assistant or not. For now, he will remain in an assistant role at both positions as the Jets continue their search to replace Bob Sutton (linebackers) and Mike Smith (outside linebackers).

Update: This hiring has since been confirmed by multiple sources. VanGorder primarily has a 4-3 background (like Coach Dunbar) and also favors an aggressive, attacking defense.

The exciting thing is that the Giants pick early again and there are some good players that dropped. In second round you n can afford to take a little risk. I think if Randy Gregory is sitting there you go get him. Also maybe a e are not done with the offensive line just yet this draft is deep. Collins fell you also have Cedric Ogbushi and Jake fisher. I think there is need for talent at both Tackle positions because Beatty gets paid a lot is not that good.

Happy with this selection. Could of seen Gurley selected as well but the value and the need fit. Finally the intentions of the front office was apparent to put more talent on the offensive line and protect Eli. I wish they would had this mindset three years ago but hey they got 20 year old giant OT with tremendous upside can't ask for much more than that. Was it a reach? Maybe slightly but let's say flowers stayed another year in school the guy could have been selected number 1 next year so I see it as a selection that pushes Beatty and Makes us better by moving Pugh inside.

Beatty // Flowers // Richberg // Schwartz // Pugh

if they bring Flowers in at LG, it will give him time to get his NFL footwork down, this keeps Eli safe on the RT front.  More & more DC's are Blitzing over the RT, Flower needs to work on his pass-pro, his run blocking is spot on, this also sets him up for quick Success.
