The Jets have announced this evening that they have placed rookie linebacker Troy Davis on injured reserve.
This comes after Davis was blindsided by Courtney Upshaw on a special teams play during Sunday’s contest against the Ravens.
Davis was taken to the locker room with a chest injury and stayed over night in a Baltimore hospital to be evaluated. He returned to New Jersey yesterday.
Eric Weeks, TheJetsBlog.comThis is an unfortunate turn of events for both the rookie and the team. Injuries had seen Davis receive an increased number of snaps and he flashed some promise however we’ll have to wait and see how he responds next season as he heals his injury.
The Jets lose their second outside linebacker to the injured reserve list (Antwan Barnes was the first) and with Garrett McIntyre still rehabbing a knee injury, the Jets are left with newly signed Jermaine Cunningham as their sole backup.
McIntyre participated in a limited capacity last Friday so it remains to be seen how much longer he’ll be out. If he can return this week, the Jets could use the open roster spot to promote one of their practice squad players such as Rontez Miles.
If McIntyre can’t go, it seems likely the team will look into getting some outside help as they only have Danny Lansanah on the practice squad however he’s an inside linebacker.
