Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg attended the Oregon State Pro Day on Friday to take a long look at potential first round receiver Brandin Cooks.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comCooks ranks 23rd in the Scouts, Inc. top 32 which would put him in the mix for the Jets with that 18th pick as player valuations tend to slide between now and the draft. The Jets have been very intently looking at many of the top receivers so far, attending Pro Days all over the country. Just this week the team had a private meeting with Marquise Lee and in the past few weeks they had their braintrust attend Sammy Watkins pro day among others.
The Jets are looking very hard at adding a receiver with their first or second round pick and that is the right move. While they are serious about adding talent via free agency, they need a cornerstone receiver to build this skill group around for the next 5-10 years and there’s no time like the present to find such a player as it often takes at least two years to get them fully productive.
