Jets select OLB Trevor Reilly

With the No. 233 pick of the NFL Draft, the Jets selected Utah OLB Trevor Reilly.

Reilly, who is 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds appeared in 48 games at Utah, accumulating 235 total tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and two interceptions. He achieved All-Pac 12 first team honors last season.

The 26-year old Reilly ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.66 at his pro day.

Scouts say that he has good athleticism and good instincts with the ability to come off the edge and contribute in coverage.

Bent, TheJetsBlog.com

Last month, Rob Rang was talking about Reilly as a possible option for the Chargers late in the second round, so this does seem to be good value. The fact he is already 26 could be a concern, although he spent two years on a mormon mission (much like Sione Po’uha) so may not have as much tread on the tires as someone else his age. He’s another interesting player to throw in the mix against the likes of Garrett McIntyre and IK Enemkpali.

On the whole, it’s been surprising to see the Jets draft 12 players, but there certainly should be fierce competition for roster spots and playing time now. The doubling-up strategy is always an interesting approach whenever you have a high number of picks and that appears to be something the Jets took into account today.

I like the Jets draft I only have to say we should have grabbed Desir instead of

Dexter McDougle in the 3rd and I didn't really like the  Ik Enemkpali pick up in 6. Other than those 2 I like it and give it B+. Love the Shaq Evans pick up along with Jace Amaro in 2. I also hope we grab Tiny Richardson I don't really like Breno at RT or anywhere at all.

Wouldn't it be crazy if they really did sign Nigel Rios?

you have to be excited about Pryor and Amaro making a big impact on this team, hope some of the O line men taken last year can contribute this year

I'm positive we drafted players that will take over for departing players next year..

LB Reilly is not likely to make the team... yet small, quick WRs similar to the kid taken in early 4th round were available in Late 7th:

240 - San Diego WR T. Reese (5'10" 165 lbs)

244 - New England WR J. Gallon (5'7" 185 lbs)

Idzik and company are still learning.
How the hell is Terry Bradway still around?

No trade up Bent, disappointed?

I don't think age is a problem. His maturity may be helpful & keep him focused.

From what I've seen, Reilly's right knee was flagged at the combine and that caused him to drop.

Good risk/reward pick and a great kid by all accounts.

Alot of good talent out there for us as UDFA I hope Idzik is on top of them.He has had a great few days in my opinion

Seems like all of our picks were captains on their teams.

@mustang66  the thing with trading up is, well, you need a trade partner to do it. They tried with the Bucs and the Bucs didn't want to do it

@WW85  Good for them, good for him. Great fit and situation for him.

@marcus81  I'm guessing Dakota Dozier was drafted to replace Colon, right? Or do you think he's there as Winter's insurance?

@Marvel  I don't get it. I keep seeing comments about Manish hitchhiking. What he do now?

I know 20 guys that are 5'7" 185. What does that mean?

@fuldsadick  Everyone says the same thing. Physically, he's too small to play DE/OLB but he has a great motor/attitude & he deserves a shot.

@fuldsadick  That he's good and should probably get drafted (at least that's what he was saying earlier today).

@a57se  Disappointed?  No.  That's something I thought they would do, not necessarily what I wanted (and the Manish hitchhike aspect is hilarious).

I've been a proponent of the doubling up strategy when you have a ton of picks and a roster which probably doesn't have enough room for all of them immediately.  It's an acknowledgment that the draft is on some level a crapshoot, which is true, so hedging your bets is a good move (as long as you don't neglect any major needs).

If Sam had not come out of the closet I am almost certain he would have been picked. So sad the guy had talent which in the end is all that matters. I think he would have been a awesome jet

@Brendan He just deserved a shot. Maybe his motor will make up for the lack of measurables.

@williamg1

 claimed he would hitchhike home if we used all 12 picks

@Marvel  yeah... Saunders is the kid the Jets took early in 4th.

He was grouped with guys like: Archer, Ellington, Herron, Gallon, Reese, Brown, etc.

Niche type player that will need to get the ball in space to be effective.  Might compare to Dexter McCluster or a poor man's Tavon Austin type.

San Diego and New England were able to wait till 7th for similar type players.  NY Jets could have addressed other areas early in 4th, including development project QB Logan Thomas.

@Bent @a57se

so true.  The Pats do it all the time (see prior TE draft, and RB draft) .  In the end, most fans and media will only remember the guy who was a good pick, and won't recall the guy that "didn't prosper".

@jsnooka

He was picked despite not having a bunch of talent.

@a57se @WW85@BrendanExactly!! The networks put on a marketing campaign for the guy as if there were not a ton of other guys who just wanted a shot to live there dreams as well.

Did you see Rich Eisen completely disrespect Terrence Fede when he was selected because he was not Sam....Just disgraceful agenda pushers. I wish sam the best but the hype was nonsense.

@a57se Sure. He deserved a chance as much as anyone. A lot of other guys deserved chances too.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Are you insinuating he shouldn't have been drafted? Or just saying he didn't deserve it more than anyone else (which I agree with)?
