Jets sign DB LeQuan Lewis, release Fugger

The Jets have signed defensive back LeQuan Lewis, the team announced.

To make room for Lewis, they have released Tim Fugger.

Lewis was previously in camp with the Jets in 2012 and spent a week on the practice squad (Waszak, August 12).

He appeared in a few games with Dallas and Tampa Bay in 2012, with one interception and two passes defended.

Hill being unfairly hit in the hands today with the football. He keeps slapping the ball away to prove a point.

Lewis was an Argo, Bent's and Rex's favorite CFL team.  Will we get a BGA using CFL footage (hint, hint)?

I don't see how cutting someone who made no impact to sign someone else to be here for a few days at another position is meaningful unless they expect another cb to go down

Not that he had a chance, but sorry to see Fugger go.  Had a good career for Vandy.  #AnchorDown.

Geez, aren't there any FA veterans we could sign? Jabri Greer? What about Terrell Thomas? He looked really good for spells with the GMEN. I have zero confidence in Wilson's ability to cover and Patterson's ability to stay on the field. This is going to be some kind of poop show if Rex can't get the fastest pass rush in Jet history.

@SackDance99 By the strict criteria for a BGA, Lewis shouldn't get one because he's been here before.  However, he managed to arrive at a point before I started doing BGAs for everyone new and wasn't prominent enough to get covered in the Expendables that year, so I guess I could knock something together if I can find the time.

I won't be using any CFL footage though.  I don't really have access to anything other than highlights and Lewis hasn't really played much for them yet anyway.

@dante kaalund It's pretty much just to ensure they have enough bodies for Friday's game.

@Warren Sukernek I believe he's been injured.  May have been accepting of an early release in exchange for an injury settlement.

@Justin Schaefer I'm actually enthused that they just brought in an obvious camp fodder to make up the numbers.  Signing a washed up vet would suggest to me that they are disappointed with the other options.

This is to fill a body/ spot in camp. Nothing more.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan I wondered the same but apparently not.  I can't recall how I know that, but I remember hearing it and being disappointed.

@Bent @Warren Sukernek I just read somewhere yesterday or the day before the list of guys riding bikes on the side, when I saw Fugger's name I kind of thought his days were numbered.  As a Vandy alum I feel for him, but now there are practically a dozen Commodores in the league.

@Bent...So no one is replacing McDougle? or was he not part of the plan anyway? With his upside, I had hopes he'd be the wild card in the secondary.

@Justin Schaefer They had plenty of candidates for roles.  Doog's loss is someone else's game.  If they were to keep the top six, then I'd imagine Ras-I Dowling would be the guy to move up from 7th place.  However, he's not a special teams contributor which might hurt him.

They may also see cutdowns or a late trade as a more palatable option than getting some washed up player who nobody wants.

I think your take on Doog was correct.  Nobody was counting on him for certain but it was looking like he might find a role for this year.  Hopefully he can do that in 2015 instead.
