As was earlier noted, the Jets are bringing in Mohamed Massaquoi to bolster their receiving corps.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comFascinating. The Jets had interest in Massaquoi early in the free agency signing period, but nothing ever came of it. Massaquoi never reached the levels many hoped for him in Cleveland, but he might be a potential fit for a West Coast Offense in New York. Massaquoi was said to be “mostly down” during his camp with the Jaguars and was cut by the team on Monday, so it is hard for me to see what the Jets are thinking with this move.
With Santonio Holmes not practicing and Braylon Edwards still not getting game reps with the first team, there seem to be some concerns about the group the team can field as they head towards September. Massaquoi might be in the mix with Edwards, Obomanu and the undrafted players for one of the last roster spots.
Personally, I don’t like what this signing means for a guy like Braylon Edwards. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Edwards as the team’s 4th man in training camp and in the two preseason games, but a signing like this makes me think the front office isn’t as convinced.
