The Jets have signed former Michigan State offensive tackle D.J. Young. Young spent the 2011 season on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad and competed during the 2012 preseason to replace the injured Levi Brown at left tackle. Unfortunately for Young, he struggled mightily against the Titans though the entire offensive line struggled and would continue to for the majority of the season. As for Young, the Cardinals parted ways with him during their final round of cuts before the season opener.
The Jets will likely have to replace one or two starters on the offensive line during the offseason and Young will likely be a depth player they will look to develop in camp. At 6’5″ and 298 lbs, Young certainly has the size and experience playing at both right and left tackle in college however, his skill set is still raw and it remains to be seen if he can carve his niche as a viable back-up in the league.
