Jets sign sixth-round pick Quincy Enunwa

The Jets announced Thursday that they signed sixth-round pick Quincy Enunwa, a 6-2, 225-pound wide receiver from Nebraska.

Enunwa set Nebraska’s single-season receiving touchdown record last season, when he reeled in 12.

With the signing of Enunwa, the Jets have now signed four of their 12 draft picks.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

While he might not see much time on the field initially Enunwa looks like a tough gritty possession receiver who isn’t afraid to take a hit or give one.  While he had some good statistics last year in Nebraska, his quarterbacks often threw the ball late, behind or out of the range of Enunwa and he was able to adjust to the ball.  While he did look a little stiff at times, the hope here is that he can project better with a better thrower getting the ball to him and an offensive coordinator who will know how to best utilize a large tough target like him.

He reminds me of Andre Johnson.

If you look at his tape he looks a lot like Braylon Edwards around 2008 or 2009. Physical with the cornerback, and the way he goes to the ball to get it and make the catch. I think he also physically reminds me of Edwards in his height/weight/speed aspect. Wonder if I'm the only one that sees that.

To Hank -

I literally CANNOT put a comment into moderation, even if I wanted to.  This happens automatically.  If your comment goes to moderation this means the filter automatically blocked it because of some of the content.  And I do not have access to change the filters or see what information triggered the filter.

I can delete a comment and I can approve a comment that is in moderation.  That's it.

I have not deleted any of your comments today and I have approved three pending comments as soon as I saw them.

There are various different people behind the scenes (probably over 20) that can also do this, so when you see a comment that's been deleted or approved, I didn't necessarily do it.  In fact, it's something I hardly ever do these days.

If your comment is in moderation, that means a moderator hasn't seen it yet to approve or reject it.  If there's a similar comment from someone else that is displaying, that comment has probably been through moderation and approved by a moderator.  Note: "A moderator" doesn't mean me ... almost certainly not at 2am local, in fact.

Now that's all clear, please drop the accusatory tone.

I must say, a lot of what you've said tonight is offensive.  However, fortunately nobody takes you seriously so nothing you've said really needs to be deleted.  Don't be surprised if another moderator sees them and decides to delete them and possibly even ban you if such comments continue though, so be careful what you say.

The Jets drafted too many WRs.

They should not have drafted so many players.

Besides for that, I love this years draft.

Enunwa looks like he can play linebacker if not tight end for sure. lol

Sorry to break it to you guys but chances are hill is the starter next year unless they plan on using kerley outside on two receiver sets we don't have a better option on the roster to expect the rookie receivers to pick up the game and start week one is far fetched Nelson is not a starting receiver unless they wanna put kerley or ford out there (which I can't see happening) hill will be our starter

bradysucks
bradysucks

Just so you guys know....

- Jets are VERY high on Jalen Saunders. He will get a roster spot and his special teams play will seal the deal.

-  Shaq Evans can also play special teams and will also get a roster spot.

- Decker gets a roster spot

- Kerley gets a roster spot

- Enunwe is good on special teams and has great size and speed.....also probably gets a roster spot

This leaves Hill & Nelson and neither of them play special teams......Nelson was far more productive than Hill last year....just sayin

@borisjets

Never thought I'd see a Jets fan say we got too many WRs.

Bent

@Cordell C  Kerley played 145 snaps on the outside last year.  Add in plays where both receivers line up on the same side, so he can play in the slot and 3/4 WR sets where he can play in the slot and there's no reason he can't have a starter's workload without any role change.

Hill.....lol

Hill is a poor man's Clyde Gates and Gates is a poor man's David Clowney

@bradysucks  Or they can keep 7.

You're also giving three roster spots to rookies, which isn't a guarantee.

"What words did I use?"

I answered that when I wrote "And I do not have access to change the filters or see what information triggered the filter."  I DON'T KNOW.

"why was my comment not approved by you?"

It was, as soon as I saw it.  I don't sit here 24 hours a day waiting to approve every comment.  I'm an editor/columnist who happens to have moderator access, not a moderator who sometime writes for the site.  One of our other moderators would usually have seen the comment sooner, but that's less likely outside office hours.

"Exactly what is it that I said was offensive"

I find your attitude towards Michael Sam somewhat offensive and discriminatory, but acknowledge that you're from a different generation.  However, others may find the comments offensive and upsetting.  If you don't even realize this, then it's perhaps best if you don't discuss it at all.  It's not relevant to the discussion here.

I don't wish to discuss this or any other moderation issues in public and I don't want to see you banned by an SNY moderator because one of your comments was flagged, so my advice is to steer clear of the issue.

Have a good evening, Hank.

I can tell you that with Amaro, Decker, and these rookies drawing coverage that Kerley has no excuse not to have his BEST season ever

He's never had this good of talent around him

bradysucks
bradysucks

@Brendan @bradysucks

I didn't even mention Ford (who also plays special teams) and is just as fast as Hill......

Even if the Jets keep 7 wide receivers, Hill is STILL not a lock to make the team.......

I think the Jets value guys who can contribute on special teams AND play WR far more than a guy who is just a WR with all other things being equal.......

I will be very surprised if all 3 rookie WR's don't make the team.....

My guess is that Hill, Nelson, & Ford will be battling for the final roster spot

Idzik strikes me as a GM who wants to build the team with his own draft picks......Last year he cut a bunch of free agents and most of his draft picks made the squad

Bent
Bent moderator

@bradysucks  If that's the case, then I would agree, we'd expect him to increase his production as long as he stays healthy.

bradysucks
bradysucks

I think Kerley will get PLENTY of looks as the starting slot WR in Morninweg's offense.....

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Value? He can barely get more than 500 yards! What value are you seeing?

Bent
Bent moderator

@bradysucks  He has one excuse: He's never had this good of talent around him.

Might not get as many looks...

In fact, if the Jets find themselves in a situation where several young guys all emerge at once, Kerley is the most likely candidate to be traded because (a) he's due for an extension soon and (b) he has value.

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  He has no excuse not to have his best season ever even though you just listed multiple players that are going to receive plenty of targets themselves?

You fixate entirely way too much on the bottom line state-wise. Kerley is better than Saunders, this is not a debate. Saunders would need to make huge strides and bulk up to unseat him. Just because he has Sanchez's stink on him still doesn't mean you can throw him into the trash heap with Mark.

bradysucks
bradysucks

Well Hill will just have to prove his doubters (like me) wrong

Hope he does

Bent

@Brendan @bradysucks  Some people used to call Ferguson "D'Bust".  Sometimes people call non-busts busts prematurely.  And, when those players do actually prove to be busts, that doesn't mean they were right all along, it still means they called them it prematurely.

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Lots of people think Quinton Coples is a bust, what's your point?

bradysucks
bradysucks

People do take my Hill comments seriously and they also took my Sanchez comments seriously

You just don't like my sarcasm

It is obvious that he has been one of the worst WR's in the NFL which is why I want him to get replaced with somebody BETTER

Lots of people think Stephen Hill is a bust

Do you watch Hill? I see him run fine routes.

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  I wouldn't expect Saunders' offensive production to be significant in Y1. He's a returner and a "get the ball in space" offensive tool.

I don't doubt that the team is planning for the event of Kerley leaving, but acting like it's a certainty that Saunders is the guy who can replace him is just taking too many logic leaps for my taste.

A year in the weight room may add some bulk to him and maybe he can be just like Kerley for the team, but he weighs as much as a middle-schooler right now, he's gotta bulk up.

Or maybe he's Darren Sproles, but I don't see it.

bradysucks
bradysucks

I think you underestimate Saunders

Kerley is in a contract year. Many others have pointed out that he may leave as a free agent next year.

There is a very good possibility that Saunders was drafted to eventually replace Kerley

I think Kerley will start at WR....I also think Saunders will be used by the Jets on offense and that he will make some big plays for the Jets

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Lol.

And based on his production in 2012 with the worst QB to ever QB, he's amazing.

I'm not "in love" with the guy, don't be so immature. I don't see how a Jet fan can look at Kerley and think "there's a guy a 165 pound rookie can unseat without much issue."

bradysucks
bradysucks

If we go by his production last year he wasn't that great

This doesn't mean I dislike Kerley. I just am not in love with the guy like you are. You act like he is one of the best slot WR's in the NFL .. He isn't

He is a good WR when healthy.....I have no idea why my saying this isn't enough for you

Kerley should have his best year in 2014....He has plenty of talent around him now

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Based on nothing except your irrational dislike of Kerley (you will say you don't dislike him, but you have to in order to act like he's not a very good WR).

bradysucks
bradysucks

He won't beat out Kerley as a WR this year

Next year?

Definite possibility

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  And I will bet you anything you want he does not supplant Kerley as a WR.

PR? Yes, absolutely, that's why they drafted Saunders. But WR? No chance.

And he's not competing with Hill for WR reps, they play completely different positions.

bradysucks
bradysucks

Time will tell Brendan

We will all get a look at Saunders soon.

Don't underestimate this guys speed and ability to make defenders MISS

He makes cuts that Hill could NEVER make....He's fast AND shifty

bradysucks
bradysucks

Kerley is a good WR and Saunders is a faster version of Kerley and he's better than Kerley as a punt returner as well

You'll see.....you guys will love Saunders

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Brendan @bradysucks  that's probably the best scenario isn't it, because at least with rookies you have the option of putting them on the practice squad and keeping them, not like veterans who you either play them or cut them, or am I mistaken, not really sure, are the guys who are placed on the practice squad do they count towards the 53 man minimum, I'm assuming no.

Cordell C
Cordell C

Lol do you see the difference in the offense when kerley played he emerged as one of geno's go to guys

bradysucks
bradysucks

I think Saunders will be BETTER than Kerley and take his job next year

Small guys who are as fast as Saunders in and out of their breaks are very hard to get a clean hit on ....

Saunders is about the same size as Desean Jackson when DJax entered the NFL

bradysucks
bradysucks

Hill, Vlad, Sanchez...... (All overdrafted)

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Because he's an electric kick returner and punt returner, a huge need.

He's very small and it will be interesting to see if he can fight through press coverage. Kerley does it, but it's not easy for people of their size.

I don't need to watch Saunders run routes, because route running isn't what I was talking about. He's very small and he plays inside, only. He isn't like Kerley who can play on the outside in a pinch, unless he's planning to bulk up. Kerley is almost 25 heavier than Saunders and benched 225 16 times (Saunders didn't even bother).

As I said, Saunders has to prove he can fight through a press and not get shaken off routes too easily, he's very small.

Cordell C
Cordell C

@brendon that's what it sounds like I still have faith in the guy he seems to work hard from all we hear he just had bad luck hopefully his luck turns around

bradysucks
bradysucks

Saunders will immediately be better than Hill as a WR

He was the first WR the Jets drafted this year for a reason. The Jets brass LOVES this kid and they should!

Do yourself a favor and watch Saunders run some routes. He is a great route runner with great speed and good hands. He's tough as hell also. Don't let his size fool you

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Enunwa isn't going to "easily" earn a roster spot at a crowded position. He'll have to work his tail off and fight until the final cut, let's be serious here. I could see all three being kept on the roster for the sake of not exposing them to the waiver process and all that, but acting like they're all, right now, better than Hill is just you showing your bleeding anti-Hill bias.

Saunders is a slot man, if he's even a legit WR. He's not competition for Hill. Evans and Enunwa are.

bradysucks
bradysucks

Because he sucks and the Jets are better without him

It isn't personal... I think he is one dimensional as a WR with poor catching ability (body catcher). He is a lousy route runner also. He also isn't durable

Maybe he'll prove me wrong

bradysucks
bradysucks

Shaq Evans & Jalen Saunders won't be on the practice squad in my opinion. They are both already better route runners than Hill and both guys have speed and special teams ability. They both also catch passes better than Hill.

Enunwa could be on the practice squad because he isn't the best route runner. However, Enunwa has good hands and is a big strong WR with excellent speed. He is also a guy who can immediately contribute on special teams. I think he can easily earn a roster spot if he shows the coaches in camp that he is an asset on special teams

Brendan
Brendan

@Cordell C  He took BS's lunch money, and then kicked sand in his face.

Why do you hate hill so much

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks If he gets hurt again, he's probably gone. But what if he stays healthy? I think you're overrating the contributions and level of play for rookies. It wouldn't shock me to see one of the rookie WR's on the practice squad one bit.

bradysucks
bradysucks

@Brendan @bradysucks

I think Hill is toast......Guy can't stay healthy......He's pulled a hamstring every year in camp and he's missed significant playing time in both of his first 2 regular seasons......He can't play special teams......and when he is healthy his production at WR hasn't been anything special......I think these rookies will eat his lunch

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  I agree that Hill isn't a guarantee to make the team, but I think you're underselling his odds quite a bit.

He's better-than-even odds with all the rookies, based on familiarity with the NFL game, Geno and the scheme alone.
