Chris Ivory got his first chance to play in a preseason game this week and while his runs didn’t yield the sort of results that the team expects out of him during the regular season, coaches were more concerned with keeping the former Saint on a strict pitch count.
Head coach Rex Ryan told reporters after the game that Chris Ivory’s carries were limited in his in his preseason debut because the team is being cautious and monitoring him as he returns from his hamstring injury.
“You’ve got that new toy back there, and that’s a good looking one,” said Rex Ryan. “But we were just being smart with him, [we] weren’t going to overdo him.”
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comIt was good for Ivory to get out there and play with the team for the first time in a preseason game, but the team was never going to give Ivory all that many carries in his first game. Ivory was able to only gain 13 yards on six carries as he gets back into NFL form. If Ivory can stay out of the training room this week, we expect he’d see some more carries this coming week, but the Jets are still going to go slow with the man they traded a fourth round pick to acquire this past offseason.
