Jets work out offensive linemen

As reported by TheJetsBlog’s Jake Steinberg on twitter earlier today, the Jets have been working out offensive linemen today. The NY Post’s Brian Costello confirms this:

Ford was originally signed by the Jets when they released Dennis Landolt in August. He was active for a couple of preseason games, but did not get any offensive reps and was released when the Jets cut down from 90 to 75.

Wetzel is another undrafted rookie from Boston College. He made two appearances at right tackle with the Oakland Raiders in preseason under offensive line coach Tony Sparano. Wetzel played 36 snaps, gave up one pressure on 17 dropbacks and commited one penalty.

No signings have been announced, but each of these players would seem to be developmental projects rather than potential contributors. Both are practice squad eligible, so that’s where they would most likely end up, rather than on the active roster. Could this be a sign that September waiver claim Ben Ijalana’s spot is in jeopardy or that the Jets could be set to move one of their late-round rookies (Oday Aboushi and William Campbell) off the active roster? Some have suggested that the latter would be a move that’s long overdue.
