Kellen Winslow not in pads

TE Kellen Winslow is not in pads again at training camp on Monday.

“This is a few days in a row,” Brian Costello of the New York Post said.

If Kellen Winslow can stay healthy, he’s a lock to make the roster, but that is a very big if and his continued absence from practice has to be something the Jets are considering when it comes to his status with the team after cutdowns.  Ryan has stated publicly that they have him on a pitch count like they did last year with LaRon Landry, so maybe all the concern is for naught, but his status is certainly worth monitoring.

If Winslow can’t stay healthy, there’s little chance the Jets want to be locked into guaranteeing his salary against the cap by having him on the roster Week One. The Jets have an unspectacular, but able group in Jeff Cumberland, Konrad Reuland and and Hayden Smith behind WInslow.  If the Jets thought that Winslow offered them no value, they would have cut him already, but that’s clearly not the case.  They want it to work with Winslow … but can it?
