League expands practice squad to 10 players

The NFL has agreed that they will expand practice squads from eight to 10 players for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Without another agreement, the practice squad will return to eight players in 2016.

Dozier and Dixon should not be exposed to the PS IF they make it there not getting claimed

Jets just waived Evans...guess they're not too concerned about someone picking him up...

Wow...  This could be huge!  Obviously practice squad players are at risk of being picked up by another team, but this is perfect timing after Idzik's approach to use all 12 draft picks.

@Nikos Psara Konstantantakopoulos That's correct. Think of players on the PS as free agents, they can sign with any NFL team as long as they're signed to the active roster. There are some other rules (can't sign with the current week's opponent, players signed off it are guaranteed three paychecks), but the gist of it is eligible players get waived, pass through waivers and then can be put on the PS, where other teams can poach them as long as they put them on the active roster.

@Rudibager

I'd rather see rosters increased to 55, even if it means 5 inactives.

No, we just thought it was bound to happen. It still will, assuming he doesn't get taken. I'm guessing the team feels safe nobody will take him since he's getting surgery and didn't show lots of promise anyway.

Well, whatever. My s***y math aside. I would prefer to see increases to the number of players who can't be stolen away.

Agreed...something like 5 protected and 5 unprotected on the PS would be nice
