League Source: ‘Virtually certain’ Jets’ linemen will avoid suspension

Some positive news via CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora:

A trio of Jets offensive lineman will be evaluated for fines starting Monday, following an ugly incident at the end of their loss at New England Thursday night, but it is virtually certain no suspensions are forthcoming according to a league source. Jets tackle Willie Colon faces the stiffest punishment, as he initiated contact with an official during the scrum, but even in his case a steep fine is in order.

Jets lineman D’Brickashaw Ferguson will be facing discipline as well, as he was caught throwing a punch, but, again these will be fines and not suspensions.

With the inexperienced pairing of Caleb Schlauderaff and Brian Winters as the Jets’ only active linemen in weeks one and two, losing any of these three players would have been a huge loss for the game against the Bills next Sunday. Incidents such as the one seen at the end of Thursday night’s game are pretty commonplace in the NFL and don’t usually result in suspensions. While the players involved obviously lost their cool, a fine would appear to be the fairest resolution in each case. Colon knocking over the official appeared to be inadvertent, so it would seem unfair to make an example of the Jets with a stiffer punishment.
