Over at ESPN New York, Rich Cimini shares the first part of his roster evaluation. While the format is the kind of arbitrary ranking list we can expect from everybody (including ourselves, probably) as we all strive for content/filler over the next 6-8 weeks leading up to free agency, there are a couple of interesting nuggets in there.
Firstly, on safety Antonio Allen, he states that “Barring a significant acquisition, Allen is a likely starter.” We’re interested to hear your feedback on this, especially in light of a story on the Jets official site today that reveals that Josh Bush will be staying with Ed Reed during part of the offseason which could suggest Reed is anticipating remaining in the team’s plans.
Secondly, Cimini says the following about right guard Willie Colon:
He’ll be a fallback option for the Jets, who hope William Campbell or Oday Aboushi can step into a starting role in Year 2.
Cimini doesn’t really indicate whether these assumptions are based on any inside information or just his own opinions, but again this would seem to be a strange approach for a team that spent much of the season underachieving on offense largely because they were fielding inexperienced players.
With their available cap room and a surplus of draft picks, how do you expect the Jets to approach filling the safety and right guard positions?
