Mike Evans met with Jets, ‘if they add me, I think it’d be great’

With rumors that the Jets are interested in trading up in the draft — specifically for a wide receiver — Mike Evans told reporters that he met with the Jets and likes Rex Ryan’s swagger.

“If I went there, they have so many weapons now, with Chris Johnson, Eric Decker and Geno [Smith] or [Michael] Vick at the the helm, and if they add me, it’d be great,” he said.

The Jets would likely need to trade up from their No. 18 pick to somewhere in the top 10 — or even top five — picks if they want a shot at Evans.

Evans is considered the No. 2 wideout in the draft behind Clemson’s Sammy Watkins.

Evan’s draft profile can be watched here

Offense = Good

Defense = Really?

At this point I don't even care it's an O-Lineman just save me from having to cringe when Goddell calls out: "with the 18th pick the New York Jets select CB from the university of ......"

What if the Jets throw us all a curve ball and trade up to get one of those great OL? The Jets would not need a "super star" WR. Not with our OL moving the chains 3 to 5 yards every down. Mix in quick slants, and sideline throws and Geno becomes a game manager which is what is needed from Geno for now. I can see the Offense eating up big chunks of the clock while Brady goes crazy on the sidelines and BB's Defense on life support in the 4th quarter. It would mean our D would be playing with the lead and Rex could turn those young dogs lose to do what they do best.

So Richard Sherman signed a 4 year 57.5m extension and now he's "the highest paid CB in NFL history"?

No, he isn't.  Sherman is still under contract for one year at a salary of about $1.5m and I betcha that isn't accounted for in the reported value of his deal.  (Just catching up so please correct me if not).

So really it's a 5/59 deal.  Less than Aso's Eagles deal (5/60) and less per year than his Raiders deal (3/45 ... even without accounting for 2014's low salary.

Revis has got $71m over the last five years.  I expect that's what Team Sherman wanted the four year average to outstrip and it does, just.

I love it.  Revis bait.

Maybe the Jets finally realize their offense has been an embarrassment to watch and has made eyes around the world bleed......

Maybe Woody Johnson has emerged from his coma and realizes how long it has been since the Jets drafted a pro bowl receiver, TE, or RB

Perhaps the Jets are SERIOUS about drafting a WR in round 1 and getting better....

Perhaps Idzik can skip and chew gum at the SAME TIME......as opposed to the same old idiotic mantra that says  "We have a great defense so F the offense.....we'll win anyway..."

We may actually emerge from this draft with an offense Jets fans can be proud of.....(fingers crossed)

OT -  So I was thinking today how cool it would be to have a Jets War Room during the draft with Bent, SD99, TSJC, Brendan, a57se, BB in it... imagine that?!  RinCT could be there for perspective and comic relief , and  Jake100 would stand outside with drinks, lobster tails and nachos...waiting to run the card up to the podium...

Hank?  he'd be the guy in the balcony that the camera focuses on right after the pick is announced...

LOL

I know everybody's saying that moving into the top 10 costs too much so it can't happen, but don't forget, the draft value chart is rarely the be-all of trades. Last year Miami moved from 12 to 3, for just the 12 and their 2nd rounder (42nd). That's not even close to full value for pick 3, but if you really want an extra pick (especially in The Deepest Draft Ever) and nobody else is biting, you accept less than full value.

@Victor Rosario  If said corner is BPA, then why not take said player. Say the Jets do draft Gilbert or Denard and they turn out to be great. Wouldn't you want both CB's locked up for a long time?

@jake100  Kreider is playing tonight.  If he is even close to healthy and game shape that will be a huge plus.

@jake100  Tomorrow is already here for Bent. Maybe he knows who the Jets picked.

Marcus Armstrong

@funkymonk  Correctttt. This is a huge point. A lot of teams don't even use that chart anymore. And with a super deep draft, picks in general have more value, and higher ones have less. It might not cost as much as we think to get into the top 10.

I was being sarcastic....

I am actually complimenting the Jets in a backhanded sort of way.....The organzation seems to be publicly admitting that it is time to address the offense in this draft.....FINALLY.....

@a57se @jake100  Sure he was.  Callahan doesn't fit what the team is anymore.  He wanted about double his worth and is going to be a free agent.  They've essentially held the edge in play for the entire series, just haven't been able to finish.

I hope to be giving the Jets offense compliments soon

I have been complimenting the defense for years...

There hasn't been a lot to like on offense the past few years...I am hopeful that Idzik will improve the offense in the draft......I hope he finds the next Wesley Walker and Mickey Shuler......The old school fans know what I'm talking about

I love what Rex does with the defense and with a competent GM there is no reason the Jets can't add some excitement on offense through the draft.

Giving compliments for the sake of giving compliments isn't my style....When I give a compliment to the offense I will mean it!!

@bradysucks  You know what the Jets could use, for a change?

Some fronthanded compliments.

I love the additions of Decker, Vick, and Chris Johnson.....bravo Idzik....

My only point is that fans get a certain amount of enjoyment rooting for guys the Jets drafted who develop into elite players like Mangold, Richardson, Big Mo, Revis (when he was Jet) etc......

I grew up watching guys the Jets drafted such as Wesley Walker, Freeman McNeil and Al Toon.....so I am spoiled in this regard.....I have seen better days for the Jets on offense.....and I want those days back....

@bradysucks  Touchdowns only count for the team that drafted the player who scored them!

@bradysucks  They don't repetitively post about it when it's unwarranted.

It's not a shock or surprise that the Jets are interested in offensive players.

Bent

@bradysucks  Yes, but at least the fact they added these guys shows an acknowledgement that they need to improve the offense.  You should be happy about that.

I honestly don't give a F about rented players.....I want homegrown talent on offense....just like we have on defense with Richardson, Big Mo, Coples, Harris, Millner etc.....

This shouldn't be too much to ask....and I KNOW other Jets fans feel the same way

Bent

@bradysucks  Haven't they already done that in free agency?

@jaygo @boomer @jake100  He's actually played very well the last couple games.  He got beat on a couple breakaways but other than that he's been solid.

The problem is on the other end of the ice.

@a57se  Trade him for what though?  I feel like trading for forwards is like the Mets bringing in star position players - they're doomed to take a huge downturn.

@a57se   Lundqvist is easily a top 3 goalie in the league.

@a57se @jake100  Whereas, in '94, their power play was great, and a big part of what got them the cup.  Man I loved watching Leetch quarterbacking that unit...

This one can barely get into the opponent's zone on power play.  It's embarassing.

Brendan

@tsjc68  They have all those late picks, they could move back into the 3rd and 4th if they trade those picks away. I'm realistic and don't expect them to hit on all their picks in the first 4 rounds, so if they are convinced on a player and decide to make a move to target him that's an acceptable risk for me, but that player better work out the way they hope.

tsjc68

I'm still unwilling to part with either #49 or #80 to move up for anyone. With this class, #49 is like #31 and #80 is like #64. That second rounder is a virtual first and that third is a virtual second.

And #18 is already practically a top ten pick anyway. You can sit at #18 and find an elite prospect there one way or another.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se In 2012 the Cowboys traded their 1st (14th) and 2nd (45th) to move to the 6th overall pick.

Jacksonville moved up from 16 to 10 in 2011 for just their 2nd rounder.

In 2012 the Skins paid that king's ransom for RGIII and in 2011 the Falcons paid a ton for Julio Jones.

Point is, it just takes one team to find a match and make a deal. I think we agree Idzik isn't the type to throw the king's ransom at someone to move up, but if he can be the guy who slides up without giving up too much, that's different.
