Mike Goodson has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the NFL season, the league announced. Goodson is suspended without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
He will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, September 30, one day after the Jets take on the Tennessee Titans in the team’s fourth game of the year.
The Jets issued a statement on the suspension:
Goodson also had a statement:
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comBased on the tenor of the first sentence of both statements, it is easy to draw a conclusion to what is being implied by the team and Goodson on why he has not been present. We are happy to hear that he prioritized taking care of personal matters and we hope his return to the field is rewarded for it.
Hopefully, the suspension will be all that is required from the NFL based on his May arrest — meaning that nothing more is coming down the pipe based on whatever his sentence is. Chris Ivory will open the season as New York’s primary early-down back, with Bilal Powell filling the change-of-pace role. Once he can return to the team in late September, Goodson could compete for reps.
