Milliner with trainers, Allen practicing on Tuesday

Dee Milliner, IK Enemkpali, Josh Bush, Jeff Cumberland and Nick Bellore were in the trainers area to start practice on Tuesday.

Cumberland was able to get into positional drills.

Antonio Allen (concussion) was on the practice field and not wearing a red jersey. He was participating in positional drills.

The official injury report will come out tomorrow.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It is a good sign for Allen, who might be about 50/50 to play this weekend at this point if he is out on the field.  If Allen plays, expect him to see time against some of the Raiders more physical possession style receivers over a speedy deep option.  Everyone wants the players to be safe, but the truth is the Jets need him out on the field.  So anything they can do to hasten the process will most likely be done.

As for Milliner?  High ankle sprains are tricky and can take up to two months from which to recover.  We don’t expect the Jets are in a rush to get him onto the field to face off against a rookie who was named the team’s season starter just days ago.  The Jets will be able to stop the Raiders running game with base personnel and it will quickly become an all-hands-on deck situation for the Jets defense in coverage.

everyone here knew we needed a corner or 2  - we could have had corrmarti, cromartie rogers, revis.....any combo of the 3 -  idzik signs  d patterson, we know how that that worked out...but hey, we have 21+ million in cap space, probably more w/ patterson's 3 million contract 'released'!!

Here's some Jets facts, if Decker can get 10 TDs, he'd be only the 7th receiver in Jets history to do it.  I think he has a 50/50 chance.  If he gets 15, he'd be the all-time leader, with Art Powell (1960) and Maynard (1965) tied at 14 for the current lead.  The all-time Jets leader in receptions in a season is Toon (1988), with 93.  In the era of the passing offense, it speaks volumes that these records are decades old.

The QB record for TDs is 29 (Vinny in '98).  Peyton has exceeded that 8 times in his career, Brees has done it 6 straight years.  Conversely, 2 Jets QBs have had 30 INTs (Dorow in '61 and Todd in '80).  Is it too much to ask for a competent passing offense in the passing era?

QB - question mark

It all really boils down to this one. Good Geno means playoffs. Bad Geno means a remote control broken to pieces. The rest is just details.

John, baseball uh?? Knuckle ball must be THE toughest pitch to teach a Kid (specially if he's not your own)....good luck and have fun!!!

@SackDance99 When you see it in black and white. It's scary that we are decades behind the curve.

With how much Geno looked to improve with his foot work and his eyes, I can see a very solid passing game. Not elite but soild.

@Bytor @drjreefer The 2011 Jets are a testament to the fact that you can have both playoffs and (several) broken remote controls.

If Geno plays like he has this preseason. We will have a hell of a year.

@MPTG_Frank @SackDance99 It just shows that besides Namath to Maynard, this franchise hasn't had a big time QB-WR combo in a long time.  O'B got a lot from Walker and Toon, but it never translated to 30+ TDs. If Geno just gets 3,500 yards, he'd be no. 2 behind Namath.  Last season, 14 QBs exceeded 3500 yards, which is less than the league average as 9 had more than 4,000.

@drjreefer His footwork was night-and-day to last year, I was really happy seeing that.

@drjreefer I'm cautiously optimistic Reef. I love Decker, Kerley, CJ/Ivory to go along with Geno's improvement and comfort in the WCO.

I hope they're explosive enough if they need some quick strikes or they fall behind.

@David Porter Right. Now keep connecting those dots back to the Jets cap space, I believe in you.

@Bytor @J. Smooth @drjreefer That 2011 team is probably why I don't feel I can watch football with other people.

Goddam do I miss that team though.

@tsjc68 @SackDance99 @MPTG_Frank

Namath only lead the AFL in passing yards twice and the NFL once.

Sonny jurgensen was the most prolific passer of that era and lead the NFL 5 times...

@J. Smooth but didn't they miss the playoffs in 2011 with the Sanchez melting down the last 4 games?

Well...

A.) two metric poop-tons for Mo

B.) a whole hell of a lot for Snacks

C.) a pantsload for Coples

D.) plenty of sheckels for Ellis

E.) probably a decent chunk for Douzable

F.) a sizeable amount for Demario Davis

G.) never too soon to start saving away for Richardson's payday

I think they are attempting to keep all these front-seven guys together for as long as possible (even the quality backups) and will attempt to keep drafting good, cheap DBs to stock the pipeline with quality, inexpensive talent.

@tsjc68 @BDarc23 @Brendan @David Porter Are they all getting huge 1 year deals or something? The team has 25 mill in cap space now with Loony Patterson gone. I'm sure Scrooge McIdzik could have found a way to get a CB that wasn"t bagging groceries last week and not lost the entire DL in the process.

tsjc68

@BDarc23 No, but they all add up.

And there's not much fat left to trim in other places.  The only big-money deals left are for guys like Harris, Brick, and Mangold -- guys you're going to have to replace with a top-shelf FA or a high draft pick.

BDarc23
BDarc23

@tsjc68 @BDarc23 I think those 3 will start to get to the restructure phase of their careers. They should be good players for several years though. I could be wrong but I think O lineman play well into their late 30s. I am thinking of Mawae for example.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@BDarc23 @tsjc68

That's my point.

Mangold and Brick will either

A.) continue to make large money, or

B.) be taken off the team and have to be replaced

There's no more Santonio Holmeses or Mark Sanchezes that we can cut to free up an extra 10M to spend on our young players.  All our young-player-spending budget has to come from not spending that money on new older players.
