Today is Championship Sunday and there are two games which promise to rather entertaining for fans of defensive and offensive contests alike so here’s our quick takes.
Patriots at Broncos — This might be one of the last times that these two great quarterbacks meet in the AFC Championship and should make for an interesting matchup. After being on the vanguard of the two tight end sets in years past, the Patriots have struggled to keep their talent healthy and on the field and so the Patriots have pivoted into a run-heavy team and it certainly worked for them against the Colts last week. Today, however, it might get harder for the Patriots to run the ball. Denver’s secondary is the weak link, so look for the Patriots inside receivers to feast on the Broncos. While we all know Brady can be clutch in key late-game drives, the talent at Peyton Manning’s disposal on offense is unquestionably better … who will end up on top after 60 minutes?
Niners at Seahawks – Each team won the game in their own buildings so far this season, so can the Seahawks hold serve with The 12th Man in their corner? The Niners could be called the hottest team in football over the last two months and that can’t be discounted but the Seahawks have won some ugly games (witness Saints Divisional game) regardless. Both teams seem to be bunkering down and turning into much heavier run attacks of late, but this game will come down to which quarterback can beat his opponent’s secondary. Navarro Bowman is leading the Niners defense and playing out of his mind. Everyone wants to talk about Luke Kuechly this year, but Bowman is the player who actually is the embodiment of what many seem to project onto Kuechly. Meanwhile, the Seahawks secondary has had Kaepernick’s number in the past … can the stout Seahawks secondary do it again tonight at home?
