Open thread: Divisional Sunday 2014

NFL: Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders

With Divisional weekend continuing today, we wanted to set up a spot for reactions to Sunday’s games. Here’s our quick previews:

Niners (13-4) at Panthers (12-4) — This might be the most interesting matchup of the weekend.  Both teams were dominant in the regular season.  For the Niners it was more a mix of offense and defense and for the Panthers it was more defense than offense.  Still with two big-armed quarterbacks who can run the ball it will make for an interesting matchup for both sets of defense.  The Niners are the more balanced and battle-tested team … but can they keep their winning streak alive in Charlotte?

Chargers (10-7) at Broncos (13-3) — The Chargers have put a  nice run together, but conventional wisdom would say that it will come to an end Sunday in Denver.  Philip Rivers might be having an MVP season in another season, but up against Peyton Manning’s Broncos it will be a tall task as the Broncos have posted the most average points in a season in the Super Bowl era with 37.9.

Can the Forehead be stopped?

The heat is on this season for us. I don't think there is one person on this site that thinks we wont win at least 10 games and have a post season. Idzik and crew better get it right or there will be some very pissed off Jets fans.

When is the last time JP Pelzman posted anything remotely related to the NY Jets?  Can this guy be removed from the twitter feed please/

I am enjoying all this football and the best is yet to come, but I am more anxious for phase 2 of the Jets rebuild to commence. In Idzik we trust!

The Jets major needs are no doubt wrs and te. An improved offense automatically will make the defense better by keeping them fresh. The last couple of years the d has been burnt out by the offenses inability to stay on the field. The defense has faded and been vulnerable to big plays. This is not to say we don't need a couple key pieces on the defense like Safety, CB and OLB, but the offense has to be given top priority. The oline also needs some attention, especially with Colon who is on the wrong side of 30 and with his injury. There is also a question mark on Winters. He showed some improvement, but  the jury is still out on him. Those issues and if one starter goes down like Brick, Howard or Mangold, the season will be lost. Depth is a serious issue on the oline. Luckily the Jets have the resources to address most of these areas and deficiencies.

Boldin looked so good today he would be perfect for a guy like Geno

I think that the only team that can beat the Broncos is the Hawks.

How does Peyton get away with all the fakes and movement before the ball is snapped

sorry Broncos, you gotta be the patriots to get that "fumble" reversed..

Decker is a FA and most likely will week number one-ish receiver money. Does anyone think the Jets take a look at him?

I say no, strictly because I believe he needs a complement on the opposing side of him to be effective (D. Thomas, Welker), like our own hopefully former WR Santonio Holmes who thrived with Braylon Edward's emergence but sunk when he was looked at and paid as a number one target. Let the opinions flow....

I like that free standing  side line receiver ..Ya he's a 1st round pic..He's just waiting for some one to pull on his finger.  Then maybe they will put him on the field  and off the side line's.

So what it comes down to is who will be the toughest for the Pats to win against Denver or San Diego? Thats who to root for because we dont want the Pats playing in a NY superbowl!!!

@jake100 I'm one person who doesn't think the Jets will win 10 games next season.  I have no idea because I have no idea how the QB will play and even who the QB will be.  They could win 10, they could win 6.  Basically, in the AFC, if Brady and Manning are healthy (assuming Peyton plays next year), the only guarantees are the Pats and whoever Peyton plays for will win 12-13 games.  Other than that, there are no guarantees.  And the Jets, because of the "who knows?"-ness of Geno, are among the teams with the least amount of certainty as to how they'll finish next season

@ww85

It is very slow all around with any team not in the playoffs. It will pick up when  FA starts and even before with some cuts and re-signings.  I follow 6 major Jet reporters and it is very slow.This sucks, I am hungry, lol

@Kyle Ely I'm glad he's not with the Ravens.

And they sure did miss him.

Flacco was exposed.

@Lew Blaustein @jake100

My logic is that if the Jets won 8 games with a rookie qb, a new offense to learn, and a dearth of skilled talent, now with another year under Genos belt and him showing promise the last few games, and HUGE resources to upgrade most of the deficient areas, I would bet on at least 10 games. You are right though, as anything can happen as a couple of major injuries could derail things or what not, but I am going on the most probable in my opinion.

Anthony Capp
Anthony Capp

@Pat d doesn't mean he wont seek that kind of money. and it could be very much argued that he could be many teams number one receiver, although I do not think so.

@a57se  Pass on Boldin, drafting one or a FA pick up?
