The offseason is getting really old.

Woody Johnson is wondering where Ronaldo's girlfriend is instead... she is world class.

Just found out the Jets will hold one practice at Hofstra this training camp. I will be there with my posse!!!! It brings back memories of the old days!

That picture should be a caption this contest.

Given how quick Jets fans are to overreact to how their young players perform, I can only imagine how quickly they'd have written off Ronaldo based on how he played when he first joined Man United.

@jake100 Let's hope they actually go through with it this year.  They've promised that a few times and canceled haven't they?

@bob

Why do you hate this kinda stuff?

It is one way to look at the situation.

There are many other ways to look at it.

Bum!

All hype!

Will never live up to his potential!

That sounds about right for Jets fans who would have given up on the best player in the World.  Hopefully we learn to have more patience and learn that it takes a few years to build a sustainable winner.

@Bent @jake100 Yes, you are correct, but for some reason I feel they will come through this year. There has been a lot of flack about them moving out of Hofstra and they might want throw us faithfuls a bone, one can hope.

@Bent @jake100

the Presidential debates caused one cancellation and weather another......the other times the team went to hofstra if I remember correctly.

sorry, the walkout caused a cancellation once

@harold Messi's better, but yeah.

@harold Exactly, that is why I say some fans giving up on Geno already is absurd after his 1st season as a rookie with no real supporting cast. We have become a society that is unrealistic and wants immediate results, and thus, lose out on some real promising potential.

@jake100 @harold Was not expecting a Geno Smith/Cristiano Ronaldo comparison when I woke up this morning.

Where will they have it anyways. There is currently a building being built there. I don't see where they would hold it unless of course at the dome looking thing on the opposite aide of the turnpike

The Lockout caused a miss also......so 2011 and 2012. Did they go to Hofstra last year or was that missed due to weather?

@a57se @Bent @harold Pardon me for talking about soccer in a thread about a soccer player.

UncleJoesJetFarm

@Bytor @jake100 @harold Mark was a good qb , but he needed the pieces. When the pieces were taken from him, he could not compensate and we dragged it on too long. Geno has only one season and did not have nearly what Sanchez had around him in 2009, #1 oline, #1 run game and#1 defense. Geno has much more upside than Sanchez and did well for a raw rookie when it started coming together for him down the stretch, considering he had garbage around him.

Sanchez would have continued his climb if the jets didn't destroy his supporting cast in 2011 but the difference is, Geno has shown more upside and can do more with less than Sanchez and that speaks volumes on the kid but make no mistake, Geno still needs a competent supporting cast like all QBs. Let's give Geno a chance!

@Bent @a57se

Why is there a thread about a stupid soccer player on a Blog about the NY Jets?

SackDance99
SackDance99

@jake100 Mark had pretty good pieces in 2011...Holmes, Keller, Kerley in the slot, LT out of the backfield, and a very good redzone target in Plax.  He just started to show a flair for the soul-crushing, incredibly ill-timed turnover that cost the Jets games.  He regressed and the regression was steeper and quicker in 2012.  He just wasn't and will never be a bona fide NFL starter.  When will folks like you just admit the obvious?

Bytor
Bytor

@jake100 Mark was never a good QB, give it up dude. He had his moments that gave us hope but no, he stinks.

UncleJoesJetFarm
UncleJoesJetFarm

@SackDance99 @jake100 Are you kidding? The turnstyle Hunter, and Baxter who never took an NFL snap filling in on the oline for Mangold for those couple of of games had Sanchez  beat to a pulp and he was never the same. If you think that offense had legit playmakers I dont know what to say.

a57se
a57se

@SackDance99 @jake100

Sanchez threw 26 TD passes and rushed for 6 more TD's in 2011......that was good for 8th in the league in scoring.

That is more TD's in one season than Vick has had ANY season of his career.

You are correct about the turnovers, Mark could not stay away from them for any length of time.

@jake100 @a57se

Big Deal.

Do we put up threads when Woody is out campaigning for republicans?

Or when Woody is doing much of anything? Not really.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@jake100 What playmakers were on the 2010 team that weren't on the 2011 team?  And, the 2011 team was BETTER in the redzone.  After the Baxter game, he had 5 games of 90 or higher ratings.  Your simplistic "he was never the same after Baxter" meme makes no sense.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se @SackDance99 @jake100 So what?  Are you really saying that Sanchez's 2011 was better than any season that Vick ever had, including his 4 Pro Bowl seasons?  In 2010, Vick had 30 TDs in 12 games...isn't that better?  Philly's offense in 2010 scored 439 points.  Vick's Eagles beat Sanchez's Jets 45-19 in 2011.  Doesn't that show that even Vick's 2011 was better?

Braylon Edwards, also Tomlinson wasn't as good in 2011 either.

Plax was useless outside the Red zone.

Keller was the same as always and so was Holmes.

@SackDance99 @a57se @jake100 Vicks best seasons are way better than anything Sanchez has produced. Even someone who has been accused of being Sanchez's boyfriend can admit that.

@Bent @a57se @jake100

At least Hockey is a North American sport and we are talking about a NY team. Not an international sport and talking about a player from Portugal.

Can you see the difference there?

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se @SackDance99 @jake100 Keller was better in 2011; LT was better out of the backfield (a career high 10.7 YPC); you're forgetting Kerley.  Mason was useless and Schotty didn't use Kerley wisely.  But, the talent was there.

Sanchez's last 3 games of 2011 were just terrible...and his Dolphins game was just as brutal and poor a game as I've ever seen by any Jets QB...2 INTs to the same defensive lineman?  At least, Richard Todd could blame the weather and a muddy field....

@SackDance99 @a57se @jake100

Yup, we've been down this path many, many times.........the last three games of 2011 were abysmal but Sanchez was not the only one who played poorly during that stretch. The defense had their own issues as well as others on offense.

Ladies Love Cool Tommie.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se He lost me on that low inside pass to Plax that was jumped for a TD against Denver.  Inexcusable and a repetitive problem.  I must've posted over 100 times before that pass that Sanchez was often low and inside on his short outs.  He never improved.  His short passing game was just awful.  We go over this time and again because Sanchez, like Mark Bulger, Derek Anderson, Rick Mirer, Vince Young and Josh Freeman (and many others) have shown, some guys just can't fulfill their early promise.  They regress and end up out of the NFL.

Edit: And, the 2-point loss to the Phins was all on Sanchez; as was the loss to Denver...all he had to do was not throw a INT...that's all, and the Jets win an ugly game.  It speaks volumes that Sanchez was at his best when he passed the least.

@a57se @Bent @jake100 I prefer hockey to soccer to be honest.  Just seems like because you don't like something nobody else is allowed to even acknowledge it and that's not the way I think.

I have no real interest in boxing or horse racing but I took an interest in the comments of people like Joey, Hank, JayGo and bob and checked out the Froch Groves fight and the Belmont Stakes to see what the fuss was all about rather than getting angry that they weren't talking about what I wanted to here.

tsjc68
tsjc68

Seriously. If there's nothing wrong with some hockey or boxing or baseball or Triple Crown asides from time to time (and there's not, especially during June, the driest month of the football year) then there should be nothing wrong with a soccer aside, PARTICULARLY during the run up and running of the freaking World Cup, a/k/a arguably the biggest sporting event in the world (and much more culturally relevant than the Belmont Stakes, which haven't mattered since the Carter administration).
