The Jets shared what it takes to get to training camp on their Facebook page and now I can’t stop the Smokey and the Bandit theme song playing on repeat in my brain.

What a monumental effort it is for the Jets (or any team) to get loaded up and truckin’ but it goes to show what lengths Ryan is convinced the team needs to go to give themselves any advantage through bonding that might not as easily be done in their more familiar confines back in the Tri-State area.

Report: Free Agent DE Jason Babin Visited Jets On Monday

Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network reports that free agent DE Jason Babin visited with the Jets on Monday.

  • New York also brought in free agent OLB Quentin Groves for a workout as well.

The Jaguars cut Babin loose back in June, despite the fact that he voided his contract and later re-signed with the team earlier in the offseason.

It appears as though the Jets would like to add a pass-rusher ahead of training camp, so we’ll have to see if anyone ends up being signed in the next few days.

Babin, 34, recorded 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Jaguars defense. According to Pro Football Focus, Babin graded out as the No. 8 defensive end in a 4-3 system in terms of pass-rushing ability.

We have Babin listed as the No. 5 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.

"Loaded up and truckin', we're gonna do what they say can't be done."

-Jerry Reed

This should be the NY Jets motto/fight song/chant/whatever. Bring on the season gents!

11 53' trucks?!! What the hell are they moving? That's insane. At my business we move 500+ people a year and out of all of those maybe 5 have more stuff than we can fit on one 53' truck. And I've never had anyone fill up 2 trucks. Now I know football team is gonna have a lot of stuff but 11 trucks seems excessive

Man, Al Gore is gonna be so pissed when he finds out about this.

@jaym Whoa....seriously? That's interesting, and potentially bad news regarding Barnes.

@davem

I agree.  What an undertaking.  I'd sooner stay in one spot .  At   Hofstra they moved to re-visit Peekskill, etc.   Now it's Hofstra, Cortland, etc.

Easier for fans to drive than to move the equivalent of an entire city including the local  Gold's Gym franchise.

Are you talking about the fossil fuels used to move all the Jets stuff or Bob's grammar in the above post? I bet Al Gore is very disappointed that the USA's schools failed so miserably teaching Bob proper grammar:)

@Brendan @jaym

Perhaps Barnes goes onto the six-week PUP and Babin gets that window to prove he has something left in the tank.

I'd be down with that, or with Groves too.  Either one of them can have the Lowell Rose Memorial Fungible 90-Man Roster Spot™.

@davem

That's actually impeccable grammar for a dog who lacks opposable thumbs or a developed prefrontal cortex.

Brendan

@tsjc68 I mean, he was the 12th-ranked PRP for 4-3 DE's, and since that's pretty much all he's ever been good at, it seems like he's still got something left. If he's signed and brought to camp it'd be a surprise if he isn't on the final roster.

Babin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Groves

And that's being kind to Groves.

@Brendan Babin really excelled in the "Wide 9" system that was also utilized in Buddy Ryan's 46 D, the primary rush DE would kick out far and use the speed advantage against the LT. Even if Babin was only used in 4 man fronts as a sub he could be usefull.

I completely agree with your comment about Babin and Barnes are situational guys. That was my point also! I would like to Keep Pace and Coples as the starters

@Brendan @tsjc68 (I am SHOCKED that I am going to say this because I have never been a Babin fan) PACE + RICHARDSON + HARRISON + ELLIS + WILKERSON + COPLES + BARNES + BABIN + DOUZABLE = BRING IT!

If Babin can move to a Hands up role (which is likely since he excelled in the kicked out, wide 9 formation which is similar to the up right rusher role) along with Pace, Coples and Barnes and our Dline would be VERY FUN to watch! More important is that it would help the coverage SOOOOOO MUCH!

Front office advice = SIGN HIM!

tsjc68

@madbacker

Oh, absolutely.  I'm not at all interested in Babin as a starter, only in Babin as a rotational player.

Which is probably the reason Jacksonville moved on from him as well (he likely wanted to keep starting, while they smartly added Chris Clemons to replace him, and he preferred to be a free agent than remain there as a backup).

I assume our signing of him would be similar to the Vick or Winslow signings, in that he'll come here after realizing that he can't get what he really wants anymore (a starting job) and instead should look for a good team with a good chance to win coached by smart people who will give him an opportunity to contribute somehow (in subpackages) with the possibility of more if the young players in front of him struggle or get hurt.

@madbacker Babin as a full-time player? I can take it or leave it. Babin as the yin to Pace's yang? Muchhhh more enticing.

@madbacker @Brendan @tsjc68

Yeah, I've never been a Babin fan either, but as a DPR on a smallish contract, he can be very productive for us and he's excellent "Antwan Barnes might still be gimpy" insurance.

It's hard to not like this idea.
