Pittsburgh Will Increase Jonathan Dwyer’s Carries Against Jets

While the Steelers lost to the Broncos this weekend, one of the bright spots was their third year running back Jonathan Dwyer who ran for 43 yards on nine carries.  While Tomlin made it clear that the Steelers were going to continue distributing the ball to multiple players, there was just one player that was going to see a significant increase in carries this week.

“Obviously, I thought Jonathan Dwyer provided a spark play and represented himself well,” Tomlin told reporters.  The Steelers coach went on to say that Dwyer “will probably get an increased opportunity because of it.”

Steelers fans are really high on Dwyer right now as best I can tell, but I don’t know if he’s anything new under the sun just yet.  Dwyer seems a competent, young running back who will have the ability to break some tackles but isn’t necessarily lethal once into the open field.  For the Jets, all this means is that the line needs to get off their blocks, the linebackers and safeties need to wrap him up.

You can see Dwyer’s college highlight reel here, or check the Walter Football draft report on him here.
