Bill Polian apparently turned down a request from the Jets to interview for the GM job before they engaged with Korn/Ferry to take care of the search according to USA Today.
Before the New York Jets hired a search firm to look for a new general manager, the team spoke to former Indianapolis Colts executive Bill Polian, according to a person briefed on the talks between Polian and the organization.
The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity, said Polian expressed to the team he wasn’t interested in taking the job.
Polian, currently an analyst for ESPN, would neither confirm nor deny he spoke to the Jets about the job when contacted Sunday evening.
Brian Bassett, theJetsBlog.comMaybe it’s somewhat disconcerting that he wasn’t even that interested, but I’m not going to get all broken up about Bill Polian not wanting the job. I think it’s fair to say the game might have started to pass him by.
Polian is ill-suited to working in New York and a look at his recent draft record is pretty poor. The Jets are better off without Polian, but I would have to say that he wouldn’t jump at the chance is a little concerning … but then again maybe Tanny was still in the picture then … that they would even think he’d be the right guy for the GM job .. that’s more what I’m concerned about …
