Poll: What do you think of the approach so far?

We’re less than a week into free agency and already there are strong opinions flying around about how well general manager John Idzik and his front office colleagues have handled their approach to free agency.

We’re interested in taking the temperature of the Jets’ fanbase, so please participate in the poll below to give an indication of how you feel.

Please feel free to elaborate on your thoughts in the comments section.

I'm confused? Was it the Jet's or the Mets that got caught up in the Bernie Madoff ponzi scam? While teams with way less cap space than we have continue to stockpile talent for the upcoming season our new "zen Master' with the mystical plan" continues to sit on his considerable wallet as the cream of the free agent crop is scooped up by teams with less cap space? I have no idea what this plan of his is as so far it is comprised of mediocre drafting, re-signing older mediocre players (with  Decker the lone exception) and sitting buy as rivals like the Pat's and Giants pick up players that would no doubt greatly improve this roster. Can anyone here debate the fact that had we signed J.Byrd to team with our Antonio Allen, Alteruaun Verner to team with Milliner, and Guard J.Schwartz to replace Colon that we would not be a significantly better team going into the draft? I completely understood the situation Mike Tannenbaum left him in last year and was fine with the fact he basically employed Tannenbaum's plan to fix the cap situation. But what has Idzik done to inspire all the love and confidence I read on this site? Draft mediocre players and sign mediocre players as free agents?

Sorry Johnny boy, but that's not gonna get the job done in this town!

I'm happy so far with the exception of CB.  I can't stomach drafting another CB in the 1st or even 2nd and 3rd.  I want offense 1-3 rds.  Isn't signing dcro even at a high valuation still saving money over acro?

please please please no CB in 1st idzik please.

In before "BPA might be CB".  Not when you have a lot of talented WR or OL @18.  WR or OL please.

Idzik is sitting on the sidelines, so far.  He better wake up and fill a few holes or he is going to have a short term stay with us.

Not happy with the way things have panned out so far but I've got to stop and think for a minute. Idzik was the GM in Seattle for a few years, and he helped build a solid team, not over night. I think in a weird, bad way we've been spoiled with Tanny's huge, splash signings over the years that we were all expecting to see Tanny's mindset in progress.

We all know, and have expressed our anguish, over the way Tanny left us no money to work on the future. We're not 2, or three signings away from the Super Bowl, so even though we are all starving as fans, lets save some money and see what we're all saying next year at this time...

DRC visiting the Giants tomorrow for a physical. Saying a deal is already in place. Idzik dropped the ball again

The part that bugs me is that the Patriots got better. If Wilfork actually leaves then great, but Revis, LaFell, retaining Edelman, and the prospect of a focused Kenny Britt scares the crap out of me.

I dont like the Idzik approach, but Im holding out hope

Just cause I dont like it doesnt mean its wrong, but with money to spend Im not a fan of the way this guy goes about his business...way too slow for a team with money, coming off a surprising season, in the biggest market in the world

I personally think the Jets pretty much have to sign DRC, re-sign Cro or sign 49er CB Brown or havent used cap space to improve team.

ZOMG.  The Jets re-signed Calvin Pace... they aren't doing anything!!!

Pace is back! 2 years and 5 million is decent value for a player of his ilk.

With Thurmond signing with the NYG dos that all but guarantee DRC is coming here?

@ProFootballTalk: Calvin Pace re-signs with Jets, per league source. Two years, $5 million.

This is a great plan my Idzik so far. I have no doubt that he will load up on offense during the draft.  I am expecting something along the lines if what the Colts did in 2012 when they drafted Luck, Fleener, Hilton, Dwyane Allen and a backup QB. If any year is the year to follow this model, it would be this one, solely based on the amount of depth at WR and TE.

@lageman  I'm all on board with signing DRC at 6MM per year.

I'll give him 6 years, 54MM, at:

6MM, 6MM, 10.5, 10.5, 105, 10.5   and cutting him after a year 2.

I'm not fine with breaking the bank on him.  Let him sign with one of our rivals for taht much.

@lageman  Brown is off the market by the way.  Raiders, $3.5m.

@Kyle Ely  only if he realizes he cannot get an inflated contract...

Brendan

@Kyle Ely  No. Browns could be interested, other teams could be. Thurmond signing means the Giants might be less likely, and little else.

@jaym  Had to be done. We were down to 2 OLBs, one coming from an ACL tear...

@jaym  Good, now draft his replacement this year to learn under him.

Paul Samuels

@upstater @Paul Samuels  Why does that make any difference? In a deep draft like this, players will be there when the Jets pick. Just look at a players like Keenan Allen, Eddie Lacy, Stedman Bailey, etc... Heck, Gronk was a 2nd round pick. After the first round, the draft is a bit of a free-for-all anyway.

@jake100 Does that mean I can be satisfied with this signing now?

@jake100 Congrats, you've proved me wrong. Here's a cookie. It's pretty sad and mildly creepy that you actually save our exchanges, Joey.

@jake100 @tal8 @Brendan  Obviously we'll have to draft somebody this year. I've been personally waiting for that for years now.

tal8

@jake100 @Brendan  The market for OLBs was not strong this year. Only aging guys... Better get him back. He's comfortable with the system.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 No, I said I hoped it was for the minimum. If he was getting legitimate interest elsewhere, paying him $2.5 mil APY on a deal that probably isn't guaranteed in the 2nd year makes sense. At best, you have another season like he had last year facing single-teams for the first time in his time on the team. At worst he craps out and you cut bait.

tal8

@Kyle Ely @Brendan @jaym  Situational pass rusher/Special team player at best... Must do better than that. Jeffcoat/Lawrence at least.

@Monty Granito  Holy crap! You win the most negative comment of the day award.
