Practice Squad Transaction: Landolt Returns, Cornick Released

The Jets did some shuffling of their practice squad today releasing rookie offensive tackle Paul Cornick and replacing him with the recently waived Dennis Landolt. Landolt suffered a knee injury in the preseason and has been working his way back since. The Jets seem to be keen of whatever services he can provide when healthy and placing him on the squad allows him to heal without taking up a spot on the active roster.

Looking at hernangomez on video you have to like his bulk and physicality. Not a leaper but he bangs on the inside and establishes position in the post and on the glass. He basically has what porzingis lacks right now.People forget that these guys played in the second best basketball league in the world. They are playing against better competition than the american kids are.Good job by phil of doing whats best for the organization and not whats best for its aging star.

Now

Early is a "young gun".  How about he actually makes toe roster.

@hashbury I think he'll make it, but he wasn't good this season.  Seems to me that the issue with him is his ball handling.  He could get away with using his size to exploit defenders in college without putting the ball much on the floor. Doesn't work that way in the NBA for 6'7"-6'8" small forwards.

I have some hopes for Thanasis Antetokounmpo making contributions next season. Imagining Hernangomez, Porzingis and Antetokounmpo being nice, young, long, athletic bigs for The Knicks by 2017.

I hear Labeyrie has some skill too. Don't know when he's coming over though.

What's up with Louis Labeyrie these days? Any chance he'll be NBA ready next year along with Hernangomez?

Decent scouting reports on both our new bigs at the blog below (I have no affiliation). There will be an added bonus when they play together as they should already know one another's tendencies...

Re: FA, I hope they can grab one of Alridge, Gasol, or Love. Those three are max bigs, imho, with Monroe being a far second. Monroe and West would def add to the squad, but if they tie up all the cap space, it wouldn't be a good thing.

Phil Jax has a vision and it is cool to see the man work. We Knick fans should remember that PJ has deep NY ties. He was drafted by NY, won 2 championship with us, and was plucked by the Bulls from Albany. I cite this as he *probably* genuinely wants the Knicks to good, instead of the mercenary some peeps like to cast him as.

@Anthony Kunjbehari Gasol's not coming and I don't want Love. I think he is similar to Melo in terms of getting his numbers but not making anyone better or playing D. I don't think we can have two guys like that on the roster at the max. I would love to have Aldridge however, but I think he's a texas guy and will go home to a more ready made winning situation.....

I'm looking at a nice jump in competitiveness from the team next year with the hope they can get close to contention in 2016....

It is refreshing to see that Phil's accomplishments give him credibility to the point that he doesn't feel pressure to win now and show instant small progress at the cost of delayed great progress. Similar to Donnie Walsh, we have a GM with patience and an eye to the future......Hopefully we will continue to not see moves that may be splashy but turn out to be busts (see Antonio McDyce, Marbury, Eddie Curry, etc., etc....)

No Greg Monroe please....

Hopefully Phil's efforts won't be undermined by Dolan.

Hernangomez in a win-win scenario for us. The kid is already playing pro ball in Europe, and he can get one more year of seasoning without being on the Knick payroll. Plus he appears to have the goods. A nucleus of Grant, Porzingis, and Hernangomez sounds somewhat exciting. Building organically through savvy draft selections is how the great teams do it.

@Spree8 I like the pick. I think he can be a good backup center in the league. Not sure he can be a nucleus guy due to his lack of rim protection and leaping ability. But a nice backup center in the second round isn't bad...

BronsonSNY

@starksoakmase @Spree8 Doesn't need leaping ability as he is already 6-11. Just need to be sound on both ends of the court, which he appears to be.
