Practice Squad Update: Pollard Out, Arukwe In

Connor Orr, who has taken over Jenny’s role at the Star Ledger shares this nugget:
Jets cut WR Royce Pollard from the P squad, signed WR Stanley Arukwe.
Pollard was a guy who got plenty of reps in preseason, but Arukwe also flashed with some excellent special teams play in the gunner role. In this early stage of the season, the Jets often shuffle players onto and off of the practice squad, presumably in an effort to keep an eye on as many of their offseason projects as possible before having to make a commitment. Players lose a year of practice squad eligibility once they’ve been on the squad for three weeks, so don’t be surprised to see Pollard or some of the other recent releases brought back and released again before the Jets decide to commit to keeping them on the squad.
One theory on Arukwe is that – having just released a receiver – there might at some point be room for him on the active roster in the gunner role currently occupied by Ellis Lankster and Isaiah Trufant, so perhaps those two are on notice after each gave up a touchdown pass on Sunday. With a roster spot open, it will be interesting to see if the Jets look to target another defensive back, especially with Revis’ status not yet confirmed.
