Pro Bowl Rosters Announced: No Jets Selected

The NFL has officially announced the rosters for the 2014 Pro Bowl. As expected/feared, no Jet was selected, although three players were named as alternates:

Bent, TheJetsBlog.com

This is disappointing, but not altogether unexpected. No Jets player was faring too well in fan voting the last time the NFL released an update and the fact that the team has missed the postseason for the third straight year doesn’t help matters.

Obviously it’s a complete farce that Muhammad Wilkerson, who some experts have been saying has been the second-best defensive player in the NFL this year, will not be on the roster but hopefully he’ll still get a chance to go if someone drops out. Cromartie and Mangold each being selected as an alternate in a down year is surprising, although Mangold arguably deserves extra credit for holding the fort while often having to cover for rookie Brian Winters. Other snubs include Damon Harrison, Nick Folk and Sheldon Richardson.

Hey did everyone see that the Pro Bowl has a new format this year?  What fun!

Instead of having teams comprised of the AFC and NFC’s “best” in intuitively neutral star-spangled jerseys, the whole game has gotten an overhaul and only the “best” players, regardless of conference will don jerseys which colors represent one of the most irrelevant rivalries in all of sport, Oregon’s Civil War.

I know it’s not been a great year for the Jets, but not one Jet was voted in?  No Nick Folk?  No Muhammad Wilkerson?

Other than to recognize that people who actually watch football, like the ATL crew agree with our assessment, the fact that Wilkerson was on the snub list gives me zero consolation.

We would always rather a Jets player be on the Pro Bowl roster than not, but if Mo Wilkerson can’t get voted into the Pro Bowl after the season he just had, then as we always say, this is still a poorly run homecoming queen contest.  Now it’s just a re-jumbled poorly run homecoming queen contest with even crappier gowns.

Does anyone really watch the Pro Bowl? No matter how the NFL juggles it, it's a problem due to the nature of the sport. To show off exceptional skills and play hard, there's a possibility of injury to some of the best players in the game so the result is walk-through "theater."

IMO the Pro Bowl should be eliminated and instead honors given to individual players after showing plays that highlight their skills and accomplishments during the year. I know this sounds like the BS Hollywood award shows that I hate, but I WOULD watch this if it were done as a serious football documentary rather than glitz mongers looking up their own arses.

You know the pro bowls a complete joke when cromarties a second alternate after the crapfest he put up this season. CRo has no buisness even sniffing the pro bowl.

I hope the Jets didn't shoot their load last week with all the emotions involved and still a big uncertainty on Rex. They could be emotionally drained.

The thing that gets me, is if they are going to keep Rex , why not just endorse him now or when all this speculation started brewing?

Rex Ryan won seven games with a team that had no first team pro-Bowlers and Idjit wants to fire him? Fsck that. #FireIdjit  #KeepRex

The media is making too big of a deal of the so called Black Monday. Even if there is a big shake-up, as long as General Idzik gets the pieces for our club, that is what will count. An offense with weapons, and key pieces on the defense will do the trick. I am sure his new regime will have a solid background in football. I would rather have just  average coaching, but with a lot of talent on the field, than good coaching and no talent. Many teams with non spectacular coaches but solid talent on the field have went real far. Of course you want both , but lets not overshoot this. This is what happens when a new GM gets to put his stamp on things. Lets back our Commander and Chief! In Idzik we trust! At first, many fans will be upset, but then when Johnny Z starts adding talent and has a spectacular draft, we will all be on board. Go Jets!

Why are they making a big deal out of 6 assistant coaches being in the final year of their contracts?

I can't take it no Mo!

The Giants didn't have a selection either. 27 of 32 teams had at least one initial selection. The Niners and Chiefs of the future led with each having 8 .

Twitter land is going nutso with this!

Something is very wrong when big Mo doesn't make it and Cro who is ranked near the bottom for CBs, makes it as an alternate.

I guess it is the injustice of thing that bothers me. Welp, it is not that big of a deal. Lets just knock the Dolphins out Sunday and start our off season into building a real contender.

Wilkerson needs an extension this offseason. If this helps them keep it in the 6/72 range of Charles Johnson instead of the 6/100 range of Mario Williams, then that's fine with me.

What a travesty and a pathetic joke.

Wilkerson and Folk should've been starters.

Richardson, Howard, Pace and Mangold should've been backups.

Cromartie shouldn't have made it.

No bias.

Another chip on the shoulder for Sunday?

@Jeff E. Guy

No doubt, Rex exceeded expectations, but Idzik is looking at the future and big picture. They have to let Idzik call the shots, or they should not have hired him. The GM gets the say.

@Hanknaples@Bent you sound exactly like a spoiled child whining to his parents about his brother.

Grow up.

@Hanknaples @Bent You know that's not true, so the only reason you could possibly have for saying that is to be inflammatory as usual.  I hope the moderators are watching.

I have better things to do.

I would absolutely say.......YES !!!!!!

@Hanknaples @Bent Even if I was a moderator, have you ever known me to sit there deleting your comments as soon as they were made?  Obviously whatever you put was caught by automatically by a filter.

Mangold is a great player and gloating about him not making the Pro Bowl is inflammatory behavior, so be careful not to do that because the current moderators may not be as forgiving as I am.

Strange because i tried to respond instantly three times and got wiped out !!

Anyway, I involved you because you interject between Brendan and i when we discuss Goldie Vs, mack !!!

@Hanknaples @Bent I do not currently have moderator rights on this site Hank.  If you are getting posts wiped out then that has nothing to do with me.  However, if all you are going to do is gloat about some Browns player making the team I DON'T CARE.

Go away.
