Quote: Kiper on Decker

“I think Decker is a good No. 2 receiver. If you’re asking more than that, maybe you’re expecting too much.”

-Mel Kiper on Eric Decker (Cimini, March 13)

Decker reminds me of Eddie McCafferey, who thrived in the West Coast under Shannahan..he is also the Anti-Hill or Holmes in that he will out-muscled kids for the rock...he gets after it in that regard

I think his deal is fair based on the production he put up in relationship to who was throwing him the ball last year, if he wasnt viewed as a system player his production last year makes him a 10 mil a year player hypothetically speaking...but remember he made plays even when (unnecessary shot at Tebow coming here) Tebow was throwing it to him in limited oppurtunities and some wildly inaccurate passes

Teams like the Steelers, Seahawks and Ravens all had a "collection" of good WRs...not Calvin Johnson types

I like this move...its a great start...gotta KEEP GOING THOUGH

Don't forget that he's getting paid "number 2 receiver" type of money.. Decker is a huge upgrade, at a fair price for the Jets. He's smart, athletic, versitile, has good hands, and a hot wife :)

honestly who cares what kiper thinks lol

He was the best WR on the market, so he got paid the most (only by 1 mill more Tha. Tate btw). Kipper and Cimini and everyone else needs to relax about him being a #1 or not. They are still going to draft a good WR and sign/draft a TE. The offense will be much better than last year for sure.

I don't know what more everyone wants..

Decker has never played in a WCO, which prizes route-running, good hands, YAC ability, toughness going over the middle and disguise.  I've watched lots of Decker and, while I don't know if he's a #1 or #2, whatever that means, he should thrive in the WCO.  What I particularly like is that he's very good at waiting until the last millisecond before showing the DB that he's going for a catch.  He is also sneaky fast and can get deep.  And, his size and bulk is excellent.  I've been a huge backer of Decker and I have no reason to believe that he won't be very productive in MM's WCO, no matter who the QB is.

I think Kiper has a good, i.e., decent, hairpiece. I mean, it covers his head. If he's asking more than that, maybe he's expecting too much.

Holmes was also considered a #2 but most people felt he was fine as the Jets' #1 and was their only home run threat.

Decker IS a solid #2 WR, and that's OK.  Right now, though, he's the #1 receiver on the Jets, but I expect that to change in the draft.   I originally thought they might take a TE and 2 WR's with their first three picks, but they may now need to target a cover corner for Rex higher than the mid rounds.  None of the CB's still on board are top shelf, and may only hold a spot for their eventual replacement.

you want to get the most bang for your $ out of decker get more WR's that can catch the ball n you will get good production from him if the jets stand pat @ WR's he wont be productive n its unfair to put it on him at that point or geno for that matter

decker can catch the ball and is better than anyone else on the roster right now so as far as ia m concern is the number 1 wr in the jets roster

Pettigrew: What do you guys think?

Still not seeing the extreme hyped about Ebron. Thank god he wont fall to 18. They need to draft a sure thing not an amazing athlete with potential.

who cares what anyone says, its all speculation..... if anything this fuels Decker to do even better and prove everyone wrong...keep the negativity coming. the chip on his shoulder is only growing...

Decker is a good WR.  No labels (#1 or #2) the media wants to downplay the signing.

Don't buy the hype.

@MarshRandy  i hope so also i don't like The Captain And really not a fan of any other Corner in free agents DRC, maybe Cro again or Browner but that scares me cause he loves being on the side lines more then playing the game...

@jad1983 Kerley Is a good wr who wasn't had a good qb or other wrs with inuries to holmes the last 2 yrs

@ww85   A very good blocker that does have the ability to reel some in. I think he would be a very good pick- up and cheap. He just needs a change of scenery. There is no doubt, he has talent, but did not work out in Detroit to expectations. He would fit in well in Marty's offense.

@ww85

Pettigrew is a below average player.  Pass, unless the price is extremely low.

@ww85  Solid all around TE whichis getting harder and harder to find in todays NFL

@ww85

solid not spectacular.

Means lots of WRs in the draft

@JCuratola3 There is no such thing, as a sure thing. Lee was a sure thing last year. Now everyone says he's horrible. I'd love Niklas in the 2nd. Most potential I've seen in a long time. Amazing how he looks on film after only 2 years playing TE. Landry in the third or 4th after that horrible 40 time. The next Aquan is what I see.

jad1983
jad1983

@kirk michael and if you have two guys outside and kerley in the slot and a third down thread i think he can thrive and really be good for the jets and i think you wont get as much from him, going against LB's and safeties i like him better than agains always going against CB's. the nfl is a match much game

jad1983
jad1983

i like kerley he is a god slot wr but needs to stay healthty and the jets need another guy that can play in the seems in the west coast offense you usually want tall seem threats thats not kerly, decker is a start j jones or m austin fit that bill better dont you think @kirk michael

harold

If he was cheap he would probably be signed already. He is likely asking for more than he is worth.  Pass unless price comes down

Saw so little of Detroit play. He's a big boy which we need. He has OK receiving #s. Anyone have PFF grades on him?

Steven Windeler

@jdb4 @ww85 I'd say Pettigrew is spectacular, not solid. All the measurables in the world, but the only thing he does consistently is screw up at the worst possible time...oh and he's a great blocker, but he has no idea of who he's supposed to block in the run game.

@jad1983  Jeremy Kerley is a 3rd down conversion master. How many key catches on 3rd downs did he have last year? Kerley is very underrated.

@jad1983 Im fine with Austin and I wnted sproles for 2 yrs or something. well have to grab the rb frm the fla st as the third down back, no james jones idk wat the deal is with everyone n jones

Yes he is.  His catch rate is terrible, he is a below average player.  Always has been.

Steven Windeler

@ww85 -4.3 receiving  +2.3 pass block  -8.6 run block   -8 total score. Ranked 55th

I'd much rather have Hartstock back if we want a blocking TE. Still waiting for the Eagles to release one of their TEs.

harold

@ww85

His grades are terrible.  He is bottom five among TE's in most categories.

Steven Windeler

@levi @MarshRandy Blocks great, but not in conjunction with his line. Doesn't know his assignments. Can't read his keys, and whiffs way to often. Pass blocking is pretty good.

harold

No he is a blocker and below average Receiver.

@Steven Windeler

I was working, did not read clearly, now the post seems great..lol

Steven Windeler
Steven Windeler

@harold Was I too subtle? I was making a play on words. I said he's not solid. He can look spectacular at times, but he doesn't know how to play football. His pass blocking is okay. His run blocking is very good when he actually blocks someone, but he usually misses his assignment completely. He's big, can catch, and run, but he has horrible technique, and sloppy routes. As you say he drops passes, and fumbles as well. Overrated, but still has upside if someone could get through to him I think...maybe.

harold
harold

@Steven Windeler

You are kidding, right?  He has terrible hands.  He is a solid blocker, but brings little else to the table.
