Quote: Rex on penalties

want to feel good about the jets qb situation? Watch browns vs redskins from tonight. You would think they were throwing in a hurricane..

   I didn't want to be too critical of Idzik after the draft but I did have issues with the way he went about it. I didn't love the McDougle pick but was okay with it because we needed a corner (Mcdougle can still be a good player but I would have preferred Gabe Jackson (G) who was picked by the Raiders one pick later).  I read an article about D. R-Cromartie prior to him visiting the jets. It was all about why he made the comments he did about wanting to retire. In a nut shell he was upset that people wouldn't commit long term to him. So, what does Idzik do? He low balls him and offers him I believe a one year deal. Does Idzik do his research? It would have taken one click to realize that that deal wasn't going to bring him in.

   I couldn't understand then and still don't understand now why he didn't make a trade to move up and get one of the better wide receivers (He could have packaged our second pick, a couple of 4th's etc. to move up and get M. Lee). Quantity in my estimation is never better then quality! Saunders, McDougle, and Evans are out. What did this surplus of draft picks do for us? I know you can't predict injuries but I'm officially not pleased with Idzik's business/drafting acumen. It seems that most fans have a better idea of how to build a team then he does.

Joey, can you please stop spamming useless drivel? You make TJB worse with every single post.

@Monty

Two new head coaches, two new offenses, QBs that barely played last year or rookies, pre-season, lots of new players, no game planning, etc etc etc.  Not sure what you expect.  Though I do agree Jets are far from the worse team in the league.

A walk down memory lane . . .

Rich Cimini of ESPN, who writes primarily about the New York Jets, has apparently been caught red-handed running a fake Twitter account that he uses to parody and slander other beat writers.

According to the reports, Cimini runs a Twitter account (@steiny55) that masquerades as Jake Steinberg (true account @steiny31) of TheJetsBlog.com. The account has also been used to slander Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News and Jane McManus of ESPNNewYork.com. In one of the more bizarre occurrences in recent Twitter history, Cimini accidentally posted legitimate breaking news about Jets linebacker Calvin Pace from his fake account. The post was then deleted from the fake account and reposted under Cimini's official account, but not before the tweet was noticed and screen-shotted. Cimini is reportedly denying the accusation, although the evidence seems both comical and convincing. Commented Bassett: I don't possess direct knowledge, but there's evidence it's a member of the press. I'm around the Jets beat very infrequently, but it doesn't take much time to get a sense just how dysfunctional it is as a group, so much so that someone would waste time making fun of genuinely good people. Even if they try and couch it as just in fun, the person responsible for the account spent a preseason game day tweeting over 70 times rather than doing their job, that tells me all I care to know.

The type of content being produced by this beat writer's fake account includes direct attempts to hurt the reputations of other Jets beat writers, such as this one: Is there any fan, even a casual one, that feels Manish Mehta knows more about football than they do?  Cimini just got caught in quite the embarrassing predicament.

You are the only one who cares about what Cimdickiot is wearing in his avatar.  Just stop it already with the Cimini updates.  You're clogging the thread with utter nonsense.

@UncleJoesJetFarm There are literally millions of things people would rather talk about on this site than Dickard's wardrobe attire outside of his mom jeans.

@Tequila Joe

Well, just think how screwed we'd be if we only picked seven guys and still had all these injuries to the draft picks.

Brendan
Brendan

@Tequila Joe Can we wait until at least halfway through the season before we start destroying the draft? Even then it will be seasons too early, but at least they'll have played some games first.

@Tequila Joe

I think his player evaluation skills are not as good as he thinks they are.

@UncleJoesJetFarm what you've just said... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul...

@Tequila Joe @juunit

You asked what the surplus of picks did for us. It's given us plenty of rookies to pencil in despite a high number of injuries to them.

I would've been in favor of trading up for Lee. I definitely feel that Lee > Amaro + Evans.

However, if we'd done that, and Lee was one of the injuries, that would be three less players available.

Brendan
Brendan

@Tequila Joe I know, but it's premature to act like the Jets missed out on a player, we don't know what these players are yet, that's all.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@a57se @MikeFrancesser @Tequila Joe I don't think he's the one doing all of that.  I don't think a lot of GMs are doing that either.  Of course he has the final say, but I doubt an NFL GM, or really any professional sports GM, has the time to make all of these player evaluations.  He puts people he trusts in place to do it.

Brendan
Brendan

@Tequila Joe @Brendan Some will be playing. And rookies on other teams have gotten/will get hurt.

It's a long process, you know you can't evaluate a draft this early.

Tequila Joe
Tequila Joe

@Brendan @Tequila Joe True...I'm just pissed we didn't get a viable corner to match up with Milliner. The draft wouldn't be bothering me as much if that need was addressed.

@Hanknaples
I'm saying the GM is not a scout.  He's not making player evaluations himself to the extent that his staff is.

Brendan
Brendan

@Tequila Joe They got a stud safety instead. Let's see what Pryor does before we get upset about that.

@MikeFrancesser @Hanknaples

Mike, you are arguing that Idzik doesn't know about player evaluations yet he is the one who makes the decisions... is this correct?

Hanknaples
Hanknaples

@MikeFrancesser @Hanknaples

The GM runs all player evaluation/scouting dept's which run dozens of scouts through out the nation!!

However Rexy's finger prints (vision, style, type) is on every player !!

He has to coach, develop and mold into the unit he wants his team to be (ENVISION)! Therefore, he is held ULTIMATELY responsible !!

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@a57se

No.  I'm saying he isn't the one scouting, evaluating talent, etc.  The people he hires are.  I didn't say anywhere that he "doesn't know about player evaluations."  I have no idea what his ability is or isn't in this regard.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples

Early indications are that Idzik prefers to compartmentalize the organization much more than his predecessor did. That means having the college and pro scouting departments provide information for the GM. And it also means that Ryan's say-so on personnel isn't what it was under Tannenbaum. By all accounts, Idzik does his job by gathering intel and analytically making decisions.

a57se
a57se

@MikeFrancesser @a57se

If you have no idea, then why are you arguing with my opinion that he does a poor job evaluating talent. I am not saying he does all the scouting and writes all the reports, that would be retarded and I really don't think you think I am retarded. I AM saying that it is his job to make personnel decisions and in the process of making those decisions, his evaluation skills are lacking.
