We have to do more to get where we’ve got to be. I’ve got to do more to get where I’ve got to be.”

Geno will be a force to be reckoned with in the Red Zone this season based on last year.   He will be the Anti-Mark with his arm and speed.

Wilkes is rapidly becoming my favorite player. Sorry Mangold...

"Quarterback Geno Smith, the likely opening-day starter, drew praise from teammates on two fronts: He was decisive in the huddle, communicating plays quickly and confidently -- a far cry from last season. They also said he was more assertive than his rookie year, demonstrating more vocal leadership. These are the progressions you'd like to see from a second-year quarterback. As for his actual play, it's hard to gauge in OTAs, but there was an obvious reduction in turnovers and sacks."

Reading up on the competition and came across this worth sharing:

--The Bills spent much of their OTA sessions getting their offensive playbook installed and it was all a bit much for quarterback EJ Manuel.

He tried to absorb the material at the same time that he was familiarizing himself with new players, primarily rookie first-round draft pick Sammy Watkins. During this week, the offense looked sloppy, but coach Doug Marrone put a positive spin on it.

"I'm excited," he said. "I think what happened is that a lot of times even players, a lot of times you're looking for the end product and for end results. For us, we're looking for those steps for where he's going or what he's taking.

"Really, when you look at the volume that we have in, which is really full scale everything right now, he's made a great amount of improvement of things that he didn't do as well last year."

Marrone pointed to Manuel's footwork, which is still a work in progress in his second year.

"I'm really happy about where it is," said Marrone. "I'm happy about the ability that we have in our matchup potential now with what we're doing and the ability where we can put different players. There are things now that we can do that we couldn't do last year. From that standpoint I'm happy."

--Marrone cancelled the Bills' scheduled OTA workout on Wednesday and arranged for the squad to be bused to a Buffalo suburb for a team building activity that turned out to be a game of Airsoft. The team returned to practice Thursday for its final OTA, and will reconvene Tuesday for the start of a three-day mandatory mini-camp. Marrone shared his thoughts on the impromptu excursion.

"Sometimes I think team-building is running 10 110's (110 yards 10 times) and looking to the guy next to you and the guy next to you is pushing you to get it done," he said. "I think that's team-building. I think just being competitive and a different atmosphere."

--One area that will be interesting to watch when training camp begins is the safety position. After losing star Jairus Byrd in free agency to the New Orleans Saints, the Bills have a gaping hole at free safety, and no one has really stood out yet in the OTA sessions.

Byrd was one of Buffalo's best playmakers, with 22 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in his four years with the team.

Uh, sounds good . .  .

He just wants to get a big contract, he's hinting at it, lol, just kidding, but really when are they going to offer him the contract already?

EAT EAT EAT.

Only good things can happen from this guy being the leader of the defense.

The Bills are a FRIGGIN CIRCUS skipping practice to play AIRSOFT!!!!

@jaygo Manuel was not good but he was better than Geno by a fair amount in almost every statistical category.  I'm definitely not throwing stones over there.

@Hanknaples Reasons why I am allowed to post the word "gay" on this internet forum:

I don't use the word "gay" in a derogatory way, ever. You do.

Does that clear things up for you?

This has been explained to you before.

@levi No doubt!

I'm tired of Wilkerson coming off the field too much. He needs to be on the field for no less than 99% of the time.

@Brendan Funny thing is, I could see Boss Hogg becoming the leader of this defense real soon. Dude has moxie.

@jdb4 @williamg1 Don't worry, he reverted back to his BS:

"He's learning a new offense and getting comfortable in new surroundings, but their prized free agent appeared right at home. He's big and smooth, as advertised. You could tell he puts a lot of effort into his route running. A couple of times, he was off to the side, working on his footwork with receivers coach Sanjay Lal. Cynics will say Decker looked so good because there isn't much around him."

Its cute that he goes by the name "cynics" now.

@williamg1  The way Idzik is drafting high character guys and many team captains we might have 11 leaders on D! And I give that 9 thumbs up.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 I honestly can't see anyone taking that role away from Mo. Mo embraces it, he's the best player on the unit (and I despite his ceiling, I don't think Richardson ever eclipses him as a player) and he has that mindset. He can goof around off the field, but when he straps that helmet on he flips a switch into becoming a wrecking ball of human flesh.

I think it'll always be Wilk as the Alpha with Sheldon and Q his wingmen (I don't know what the future holds at NT, so I won't speculate).

@a57se @BDarc23 stats are overrated. Geno was better. he won a couple of games with his arms and legs and had Nothing to work with. I would take geno everytime.

@Hanknaples You call a guy a "POS" for bringing focus to the fact that he is the first openly gay player in the history of the NFL.

But you're the same cretin who thinks the Phins are justified in despicably yanking health care, and later an actual job, from a guy who had worked for the team for 17 years, so I'm not surprised.

Bent

@Hanknaples @Bent Hank - Brendan made a perfectly fair comment that was not filtered.  The system works.

You made a comment which was utterly pointless but has since been added, so it remained invisible for just five minutes.  I don't think you have anything to complain about.

@Hanknaples @Bent How the hell should I know?  I don't control the automatic filter.  I would assume it went through moderation and another mod approved the comment, or once you've had a certain number of comments filtered and approved they no longer need to pass through moderation.

@williamg1 Off-field Wilk is laid back. On-field Wilk is a banshee wrapped in a wrecking ball wrapped in a juggernaut.

@a57se @Monty the offense that EJ was in produced two top 15 running backs and had a litany of good WR's.

Geno has chris ivory and a bottle of pepto bismuth.

Geno 9x/10 over EJ

@Brendan @williamg1 Isnt Richardson more of a jokester? Kinda like Mangold... Not saying either of them cant lead. Im sure all eyes are on Mangold if hes talking but thats not usually the natural leader type.

@Bent

Who are the other moderators on this blog? The only one I've ever seen is you.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi That's the impression I got. And to be clear, with someone like Mangold I don't worry about them knowing when it's time to put his game face on. He's a jokester who can play serious.

Richardson? That dude tackles people with a beaming smile, the only time he's not smiling is when the team is losing. I love him so much for the joy he attacks everything with, and that aspect of his personality is easily his most infectious. I just wonder if, for the sake of the defense, he's best in a #2 role or something. The always upbeat wrecking machine.

God, I love this DL.

So how is Hank or I or anyone else for that matter supposed to ask one of the moderators anything as you suggest?

Brendan

@Hanknaples Yes, Hank. Every gay person in the country has all those things.

@Hanknaples Because my post history has indicated when I use the word, it isn't offensive or baiting. It's properly used.

Also, as has been explained to you, Bent doesn't run the word filter/post flagging system.
