Chris Ivory

Recap: Day Two of Jets Minicamp

The Jets held their second day of Minicamp on Wednesday.

Here’s a recap:

  • RB Chris Ivory injured his ankle and didn’t finish practice. While Ivory likely won’t practice on Thursday, Rex Ryan doesn’t believe the injury is serious (Cimini).
  • Woody Johnson weighed in on last season, saying he wasn’t satisfied with the 8-8 finish (Costello).
  • QB Michael Vick has not looked good so far in camp (Hubbuch).

Quick questions has anyone heard form Goodson yet cause it seems like everyone from the jets is afraid he might be you know not with us anymore

I am not too concerned with Vick. He is 33, and was inactive for most of last season.

i pray that hills improvements carry on into the regular season... between hill decker nelson cumby and amaro all being big targets plus genos legs makes me very optimistic that we can actually get tds this year in the redzone instead of fgs

The best recap we can the is from the Three Stooges, Cimini. Costello and Hubbuch? Oy Vey.  What ever happened to NY sports reporting?

This just in:  Erik Thorvaldsson and Egil Skallagrimsson are demanding that the Minnesota Vikings change their name.  Minnesota has shown themselves to be nothing like the Vikings of old because of their lack of murder, rape and pillage, so the two famous Norsemen are offended and do not wish the team to use the name any more.

I can't even convey how much I enjoyed the Chris Ivory Bull in the China Shop charges this past season, indeed at times he really appeared to put the hurt on ALL in his way. This is one guy I would highly recommend the shot callers let weight train, do minimal reps, rest, and heal up, to be at FULL capacity once regulation play starts...

Study the play book and be awesome!!

Yeah, sorry about Goodson bros, but I'm full throttle rootin' for Ivory. Can't Wait!!

If Vick ends up being shaky, it's a good thing we've got a capable backup in Geno Smith.

Who had a worse week, Mike Goodson or the nation of Spain?

Ivory hurt again?

No surprise there!

Vick not looking good in camp?

No surprise there!

Woody saying something of little import?

no surprise there!

 “What I would suggest, the best thing, is to call the Redskins, or call the Washington team, whatever, and let them answer those questions,” he said. “They’re much more up to date on all that.”

He also declined to say if he thinks the Redskins’ nickname is a racial slur.

“I’d rather leave it to them and not comment on another team,” he said.

Johnson was a bit more expansive when asked about pressure on an NFL owner to do something he doesn’t want to do – as the Redskins’ Daniel Snyder is facing.

“That goes with the NFL,” Johnson said, speaking generally about that pressure. “That happens. It’s not always in-synch, but overall, over a period of time, the shield and the NFL and the game is what we all strive to keep and to preserve and to protect and to enhance.”

I think the internal push from the other 31 NFL owners to tell Snyder to stop being an ass is beginning.

@rstysanchz

Also add in Chris Johnson or Bilal Powell coming out of the backfield as recievers and maybe a wide receiver set where Jeremy Kerley and Jalen Sanders in a package option....This could be by design a tricky offense with many different looks.

@jaygo

I have some Viking blood in me and have been offended by the Minnesota Version since they moved indoors like a bunch of wusses!

TRUE VIKINGS would never do that so that is an even BIGGER INSULT if you ask me!!!

Oh well Spain... There's always the running of the bulls. Enjoy! you've still got that going for you, but ur football run is over.

@jake100 If we can stretch the field with the Football version of Frampton.... say "Hill Comes Alive"

compliment that by a stellar season by Eric Decker,

compliment that with a shocking "dynamic duo" Kerley and Amaro rockin' the slot real well...

AND have a running game perhaps ramped up from last season??

AND Geno Smith stock goes parabolic??

Oh Man it's GO TIME!!!

Now please tell me good news on our O line, Bent and Bassett, cuz I'm feelin' good today lol!!

Can you also put out a list of positives from today?

@bob

"We're terminating Mike today".

That sounds painful.  I hope they didn't use that bad batch of pentobarbital from the compounding pharmacy that Oklahoma used, that stuff doesn't work right.

@tsjc68 And especially considering the history of Native Americans in America, it's more than owed to them that the name is changed. They suffered racism, prejudiced abuses, and genocide. And after all of that, and after continuously being screwed even when their numbers were dwindling, even when our government realized we messed up and the abuses continued, the NFL and the Washington football team have been the sole profit-makers off a racial slur. It's unfathomable.

@tsjc68 How many Generations grew up Redskin fans? How many actually complain about it? It's only in our generation that it's a problem with our political correctness, it's gone to far IMO, I doubt the Native Americans complain, they have far more important things to worry about like most Americans do.

@bob @jake100 Funny how I got flamed 2 months back for suggesting people might be giving up to soon on a guy whos had 2-3 great games but has been hurt by injuries.

How many Generations grew up Redskin fans?

Irrelevant.  It's an offensive slur whose time has passed.

How many actually complain about it?

A good amount.  Enough that changing it to something less offensive makes sense.

It's only in our generation that it's a problem with our political correctness,

No, it's only our generation that has come to the realization that "we should start listening to the opinions of someone other than the white guys".  There's a difference.

it's gone to far IMO

Changing the name of a sports team is hardly "going too far".  St. John's University changed their name from the Redmen to the Red Storm; they survived, they still make money, people still cheer for St. John's.

The world is not a worse place now that St. John's no longer uses offensive Native American words and iimagery.  In fact, it's a better, more inclusive, more thoughtful place.

I doubt the Native Americans complain,

They do, despite all the lies Dan Snyder wants to tell you.

They have far more important things to worry about like most Americans do.

They have functioning brains, they are capable of caring about those other more important things and also caring about changing this name whose time has passed.

Thanks 68. I'm a very positive person and it's just become too much how the media harps on negativity.

Maybe you should be doing the main posts, you think these would be included in the recap!

Very fair point. I detract my earlier post.

I took great offense to your comment that your generation is the first to realize, "we should start listening to the opinions of someone other than white guys". I'm 50 and I grew up in NYC. Have lived in several different states, as well as overseas. I'm white. My entire life the vast majority of people I have known, including myself, have respected the opinions and ideas of all people regardless of race or sex. If you are my age then fine, but if not you really need to reconsider that statement.

Pablo Bruno

@tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno meh, If I was the owner I would change it just to get people like you off my back, lol, no offense, but no one cares, I had a native American friend I called red all the time, lol, just kidding..

Bent

@Pete 57 Well, maybe you'll get some longer posts on the positive stuff.  We do like to shine a light on the stuff the rest of the media is overlooking.

Unfortunately, I'm too busy with a couple of BGA projects, but hopefully you'll enjoy the fruits of that labor in the days and weeks ahead.

@a57se @tsjc68 @Pete 57

Amaro lining up out wide lends more credence to my retort of "We did draft an impact WR, his name is Jace Amaro" for the common complaint of "We didn't draft an impact WR, just developmental guys".

@Pete 57

I wonder if that was Bent or Bassett's doing? usually if there is no name with it it is Bassett!

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Pete 57 A fair point.

I'm 36, so I should have said "It's only our generation and our parents' generation" who care about things like that.

I was riffing off of Pablo's comment, but you're correct, the sea change in attitude really began in earnest during the post-war era of the 50s/60s.

"Unfortunately" and "Bent is working on a BGA" do not belong in the same sentence.

@a57se @Pete 57 Nope, wasn't either of us.

If there's no name on a post, it probably came from the SNY newsdesk.  You'll often, but not always, then see the reaction from Bassett or myself added below, as was the case with the Goodson news this morning.

Yes after seeing all the great stuff 68 found on today's practice, it definitely makes one wonder why this post only included negative stories.

@Pete 57  Not for nothing but I' 64 and while I never thought about it, Redskins started as a racial slur and to the people it demeaned it's important.  if there was a team called the Cleveland darkies, we wouldn't think twice about changing it.  Colleges and High schools have been changing names for years that defame native Americans, it hasn't hurt sports in the least.  Not a generational thing, it's basically just having respect for minorities , America was built to protect the rights of minorities , no matter how small.  How about  Washington Braves  or Washington  Warriors ? In ten years no one will remember , sorta like the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers and the  Minneapolis Lakers.Thank God Cleveland was named after Paul Brown , might have had to change them to something like the Cleveland Ravens.

Pete 57
Pete 57

I agree that a name that is demeaning in nature should not be used.

tsjc68

@Pete 57

A simple sentiment that most reasonable people could probably agree with, if they weren't too busy clutching their pearls and lamenting how fast the world is changing (while ignoring that it's changing for the better).
