Report: Jets claim TE Zach Sudfeld, Release DL/LB Solomon

The Jets have claimed tight end Zach Sudfeld, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

Sudfeld was released by the Patriots this week.

He has no catches this season in three games.

He is 6-foot-7 and 260 lbs. and went undrafted out of Nevada.

EDIT: The Jets announced the release of DL/LB Scott Solomon to make room for Sudfeld on the roster.

There was quite a bit of hype about the rookie during the offseason, but he hasn’t lived up to that so far, despite the injuries the Patriots have suffered at the tight end position. Sudfeld caught eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in preseason.

Aside from the obvious intel that he’ll be able to give the Jets for their upcoming meeting with New England in a few weeks’ time, this may signify that Konrad Reuland’s job is in jeopardy. The third year man has played just 12 snaps on offense in the first four games, not seeing any snaps at all this week or in New England two weeks ago.

It may also lead to speculation about Kellen Winslow’s status, but although he was once again limited in practice today, it still seems like they have him on a pitch count which has proved successful so far.
