Rex doesn’t expect Pryor to play Thursday

Despite being cleared for contact, Rex Ryan doesn’t expect Calvin Pryor to play in the Jets first preseason game.

Pryor has been working back from a concussion he suffered two weeks ago.

Pryor was cleared for contact and participated in practice on Monday. He was previously only allowed to work in non-contact drills.

This isn’t anything we expected either.

Putting Pryor back in to live action for little to no gain right now has no upside.  Pryor has already missed significant time on the field and putting him up against players trying to make the Colts final roster is dangerous.  Holding Pyror back – at least another game – is the only move that makes any sense and we’re glad the Jets see it the same way.

This is the right move.  He does need his reps, but in the preseason you should always take the extra week and not try to push it back from a concussion.  If he gets a quick second concusion, his carreer could be over before it starts.

"The Bears announced Tuesday morning that they have suspended Martellus Bennett for an undetermined amount of time and fined their No. 1 tight end.

Bennett got into a scuffle with teammate Kyle Fuller - the team's first-round pick in this year's NFL Draft - Monday, ending practice early for the Bears."
