Rontez Miles had offseason hip surgery

Rontez Miles had offseason hip surgery (Cimini, July 1).

Miles, a safety, is expected to “make moves” in training camp, according to the report.

Miles spent 2013 on the team’s practice squad after going undrafted.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Miles had a good year for the Jets on the practice squad and the team seems to like his hard-hitting style. Miles is still eligible for squad duty but Miles will need to find his first role on special teams. If there is one concern it is less about Miles and the projected roster composition … how he meshes with the rest of the unit, which isn’t particularly strong in coverage. Miles might be competing with Jaiquawn Jarrett and Josh Bush among others for a roster spot.

A little more intel on this...

Miles actually had this surgery in JANUARY.

He realized at the end of the season that he'd played the whole year with what was described to me as "a torn hip".  He's been participating fully at OTA's and mini-camp as far as I'm aware so this is pretty much old news.  If anything it's good that he got so close to contributing (people forget he was active for the last couple of games) with that injury.

So is the Hip surgery very similar to what Cro had last year?  Because if I remember correctly, Cro didn't have a great year last year.  This has all the signs of the end of the road for Miles as a Jet.

Morning Gangarooskies! The word from the Farm is a decent day today but a mess moving in for  Thursday and Friday which could ruin the 4th. Maybe the PM on Friday will be salvaged. The Farm is on the job and will keep you up to date on all atmospheric conditions!

Just came by to congrat all US soccer fans here! The game today was awesome to watch! As I stated before I was supporting US team even facing a better team as Belgium are.

Howard, Jones and the young Green played top level. I also enjoyed to see Yedlin and what a nice work Klinsman did!

Hope we can get the camp soon and anxious for the next round at WC.

Josh bush: anyone care about this guy at this point? Seems like a waste of a spot.

Final WC thoughts before shutting it down for a while: What an effort by Timmy. I don't care if you think soccer is more boring than watching grass grow, if you don't appreciate the performance that man put on today you are brain damaged.

The US squad shouldn't have even been in this game, but they played "US Soccer" and used heart, determination and defense to advance and push a top-10 squad to the brink. It would've been easy to roll over in extra time after conceding one goal, let alone two, but they pushed and Belgium isn't heading to the next round thinking they kicked the US around, they are feeling fortunate that Wondo missed the net and none of those late crosses found their mark.

Great effort, great fun and I look forward to the US becoming a consistent top-16/quarterfinal participant in the WC's to come.

I'm speechless. That was it, the golden opportunity the team was waiting for all game long. Fckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Liked Miles tape.  ST ace, can tackle in open field.  Returns stopped dead when Miles arrived.

What does "make moves" mean?

@jaygo  B-b-but Woody is just another greedy billionaire who is more interested in hogging headlines with Tim Tebow and Brett Favre than being philathropic!!! [/sarcasm font]

Seriously, nice find—and the kind of thing that you rarely see the beat reporters cover other than when they go to a player's charity bowling or golf event so they can get "off the record" interviews.

@jsadolph Cro never had surgery. His hip was messed up all season, then after the season he decided against surgery and just rehabbed. Cro played through an injury rather than taking care of it. Admirable, but ultimately didn't help his case at all. Miles had surgery, so already he's on a different path to recovery than Cro without factoring in their age (Cro was 29, Miles is 25 with much less miles on him).

Without knowing when the surgery took place we can't really speculate to the severity, but if the team held onto him through all the rehab, etc., I think it speaks to how they view him.

@Brendan

That sucks.  Don't wish that on anyone.

@Brendan and just like that, they counter and score.  Our crosses have been terrible.  Do all the players on a team like say Belgium come from Belgium or can players play for any team regardless of where they're from?

@Hanknaples You managed to link to a Belgium article posted on a Dolphins blog. You are, quite literally, the worst.

@r_in_ct I posted a tweet I found about it yesterday, I think Waz was the only one who even mentioned it on Twitter. Not surprising, since he's pretty much the best the beat has to offer currently.

@miamijoe Short answer is you don't have to have to be born somewhere to play for that country in the WC or non-friendlies. The US currently has a bunch of people born elsewhere on their squad.

@Brendan @Hanknaples I'm no soccer expert but I have to think it's not a good sign when the US team looks like it is trying to kill a power play for 40 minutes.

@jaygo What are you talking about? They posted the comments of "Greatest living Jet" Joe Namath on a Jets fan blog. What is the issue?

@Brendan @miamijoe well then lets go out and get that guy Lukuka.  He looks like Dez Bryant when he gets going....

@BDarc23 @Brendan @Hanknaples Seems that way doesn't it.  Almost like the 4 corners at UNC.  They open it up and Belgium wins 5-0.  They have to rope a dope to get to the shoot out.  Howard playing a great game!

Brendan

@BDarc23 Belgium is better, so if the US were to win it'll probably be a grinding, ugly game. Opening it up helps Belgium way more than the US right now.

@Brendan @jaygo Agreed, so let's get Joe's take on the Rontez Miles hip injury.  I am anxiously awaiting the Greatest Living Jet to offer up his view.

@jaygo @Brendan They were quotes from a radio interview on WFAN. You know that right? TJB didn't do an exclusive interview with Namath.  The post let's people comment.  I'd rather have that then no posts.

@BDarc23 Well, they are. They're a top-10 team in the world, or thereabouts, have multiple EPL stars sprinkled across their squad. Entering the WC they were probably the favorite out of the non-favorites.
